Electric knife sharpener

So after butchering 3 deer; quartering down 2 more and field dressing 7 total I have learned one thing- I suck at sharpening knives using just a stone and those “pull handle” gadgets.

Any good electric sharpeners out there for Santa to stick under my tree....keep it around $100 and you get a bonus tip!

The spyderco sharpmaker really is fool proof and will get your knives really sharp.   Not electric but just a suggestion.

I love when you just have to touch the deer hide to open it up.  No pressure needed!
I'm still afraid to try and sharpen my Benchmade with it but that's only because I'm a turd. Also would help if I got a deer first too. Still has some good factory sharp left due to lack of any major use LoL

use the 30 degree for benchmade not 40.  works great.  I own a handful of benchmades.  Love em.  You can also return to benchmade for a free sharpening but the factory grind is right at or near 30.

That's what I always figured. Good to know the 30° slots. Definitely gonna give it a shot. Worst case if I bugger up the blade they can fix my mistakes anyways. But definitely glad you told me the good angle. Because I had no clue

And so that’s my concern...so many variables. I was hoping the electric sharpeners remove some of that

Most hunting knives are at or near 40 degrees.  But it only takes a sharpie to figure it out with a few swipes for any knife if you don't know factory bevel.  never used electric but I assume you still need to know the factory grind.

Several butchers have told me the key to keeping any knife sharp is to keep touching the knife up every so many cuts. I do with my "priceless to me" filet knife and she slips right through that siliver skin every time. Bone work always touch my crappier Cabela's knives which stay pretty sharp also with frequent touch up.

Just get the Spyderco talk to moog and you'll have knives so sharp they can cut without even touching anything

I do ok with our Henkel sharpening rod on my knives but thinking of buying the havlon with removable blades in the off season.

Careful with them Havalons....surgically sharp and sometimes tricky to change/fold.
I like them but they are insanely sharp

This is what I am currently  using .  I like it . Buy aftermarket belts from amizon

i have this also. if you want a knife usuably sharp versus actually razor sharp then it works great. my family destroys our kitchen knives. it brings them back easier.

my butchering knives and anything pretty and fancy i wouldn't use it. it'll give you scratches and take off more material than needed. I've figured out it's better to touch up or straighten the edge more often by hand then to let it get real dull and try to bring it back.

If your only getting usable sharp with this system  something is wrong.  This system will make a knife sharp enough to split hairs.  Once the first sharpening on the system  is done you bevel is set . From there  its minor touch up to bring them back to super sharp . I have done everything from an axe to broadheads .

To each his own.

the better your edge the less this is really helping you. it's all subjective. "super sharp" and "split hairs" to me means sushi chef kind of sharp not just hey i can shave my arm with multiple passes. this ain't the tool for that. who needs and maintains a knife that sharp they're actually using?  from an impactal or niche use perspective it has its limitations. one side has the belt pushing into the blade not pulling. also you need to maintain perfect pressure against the tension of the belt so you're not changing the belt angle against the blade. i'm not trashing it. i'm saying it'll get a knife sharp enough for most people and their needs.

i'm kinda curious how you're doing broadheads though without risking losing a finger. lol
