You are not the first guy to leave/lose a knife at a gut pile. That's why I have switched to using orange handled knives for field dressing. I now use the EKA Swede 8 and have bought an assortment of orange knives: Buck, Kershaw, etc. for the rest of the family.

Makes a lot of sense, have never lost one but had a devil of a time finding it in the leaves.

I use the Havalon Piranta Tracer for skinning, Bucks Nighthawk for the heavier stuff, and I always carry a Leatherman multi-tool.

Look what I found when I was going through a box of knives I have.. didn't even know I had it!! It's a 6" blade... not in bad shape at all... I think it was my dad's.

My preference is my K-bar with a 4" blade . I've had it for years . It's older than a lot of folks on this site !

I just bought this knife for my brother for Xmas. He picked it out I was a bit disappointed they are made in Korea now.

Myself I use a Western my grandfather gave me a long time ago. It has cleaned a lot of deer and means a lot to me. The Kbar above has it's form.

I have been thinking about retirig the old one so nothing happens to it, not sure if I could do that though.

Look what I found when I was going through a box of knives I have.. didn't even know I had it!! It's a 6" blade... not in bad shape at all... I think it was my dad's.

I also have my departed dad's WWII, Coast Guard issue knife very similiar to your's.

Don't carry it, but it works great with a hammer to split the rib cage on a deer.

That 6" kabar is a monster! I don't think it's old enough for it to be my Dad's Marine Corp knife... I'm thinking maybe 1970's... but I was excited to find it!! Gotta buy a sheath for it though.

4" blade with an antler handle. Not sure what make it is. I have cleaned caribou, bear, whitetail and lots of small game. Small enough to get in tight places and I have never felt like I needed a bigger blade. It was my Father's knife and since I was 10 I have been gutting all his deer so he gave it to me...lol

That looks exactly like an old Case knife that I lost about 25 or 30 years ago. That knife had some good steel in it and did everything I ever asked of it. I bought another knife just like it and made by Case too, but it just was no where near as good in terms of holding an edge. I had that old knife back when I was a kid, in fact it was the first hunting knife that I ever bought. I lost it after gutting out a deer. But anyway, it looked exactly like the one in your picture.

I'm a "craft" beer guy for the most part. Tonight Dodfish Head....8 % !

I've been trying whiskey the last year or so, right now I'm a fan of Bushmill on the rocks ... but this can lead to trouble I've found !

But i'm open to suggestions !

I started looking at knifes and now own two new Western straight blades!

to go with the Western 48a I already had from my grandfather. Now I can retire that one.

Yea the first is the trout/small game knife at 6 1/2 inches the other is 7 3/4 inches. I went a little Ebay crazy!!
