sampotter
My girlfriend's family owns several hundred acres of farmland in Houston County. Maybe some of the escaped deer will end up there?
Steve7
Never know sam...but it's defintely possible. Don't understand the... "Reports on the incident were being prepared for the Houston County attorney, which will determine what, if any, charges to pursue." ?? Makes you wonder if the guy is going to get a tresspassing ticket and walk.

NFA-ADK
Dam I mean I will jump through hoops and over fire for a nice buck but it would all be legal. To go and do that is just plain stupid. WOW lol 2 funny but I feel bad for the farmer/owner of the deer that was his prize possesion and I am sure made him mad money... Come on Will I shot a Polar bear thier is a whole heard on the other side of the hill. Lets get them!

NFA-ADK
What a amazing deer and it is remarkable to me how he was able to get such a stud at 3 years old. Such a shame all that time and energy wasted because of one stupid kid. Sounds like it took over 15 years to get to this point, I hope he still has a chance at recovering from this! HectorBuckBuster
Nothing like taking your picture with it and bragging.Like he did not think that would get him caught. This will give hunters another black eye. This really has nothing to due with hunting. This deer was that mans property and live stock, and this kids broke it and killed it and stole it. Kind of like cattle rustling. I don't see how they can charge him with poaching as this was not a wild deer, but a livestock deer.I think a felony theft charges are in line. Would be worse punishment then poaching.

tughillhunter
not only the deer and its offspring worth mega bucks, but the genetics alone are worth a ton of money. Its a shame, and glad he was caught.
Steve7
Keeping Deer captive in a fenced in area is just weird to me. JDS... It's a HUGE money maker for the stud rights on these farm raised deer. Not wierd considering the amount of money these guys make. Hell, I'd change my profession to raise and interact with bucks like that. They pay 10K for each tube of seman from a buck like that. You have a few giants like that and you're doing good. Doc
There seems to be no limit as to what some people will do to get those prized antlers. How is it that this guy got so far off the deep end? I really can't imagine being that desparate. It's a real shame.
Four Season Whitetail's
Trust me when i say that deer was ten grand today. The farmer is known real well and he will get his money in restitution. As far as the semen goes its not 10grand for a straw from that buck. Hes nice but in our deer world he is just average.. The buck in my avatar scores 305 this year and his 1/2 cc straws sell for $1500 and we are sold out for this year. I know people have mixed reviews on the deer behind the fence and thats fine with me but these deer are our's,on our property and in the deer business they are just like livestock and raised as such. Money is made and trust me money is spent to raise these things and that boy will find out how much money that is!!!!
erussell
I dont get it. I see some places that raise deer, sell them as shooters or breeders. So where do the pet shooter deer go? To game farms where they are killed behind fences or sent to ranches like the ones in Texas to be shot?? I see one place I looked up had 4 shooter bucks for sale for $36.000. Seems a bit pricey for a stupid deer. Must have been like shooting a pet cow. Stupid kid.
Four Season Whitetail's
There is alot of misinformed people that talk about deer behind fences. There are preserves that are run right, have 1000 acres plus fenced in and they do great business. I know of one farm alone that just had their 125 hunter this year in pa and i know of one that just hit the 100 mark. Some of the smaller places mabey could improve on their operation to put it in a better light but just like anything else,Times change and those places will get weeded out. The high fence business is doing great in todays world with less land to hunt, high leases and unsafe places to hunt.Iike i said people are on both sides with deer behind fences but i can,for a fact show you of some great places that have hunts. A guy can pay 3 grand to go to say canada or iowa to hunt for 5 days for a chance at a 160 nto 180 inch deer or pay the same price and get a awesome place to stay, great food, great people and walk out with a deer. The tame deer thing in most places dont happen. We have a couple here that would never leave for any reason but thats rare. You can take a tame deer at one place and move that deer just once to a new strange location with different deer and they turn into a total different beast. I will say that there has been some negitive lights shown on high fence hunting but if some would go tour and checkout a well ran 1000 plus acre preserve i think they would get a whole new picture. I agree with you. And to be honest, they are still wild by nature. And it is simply livestock. My gf's family have an elk farm. One of the elk will come up to you and you can pet it, but once her calf is born in the spring, look out, she will take you out. But i agree with you, being around a few farms in my day. I would like my own someday myself.

Im sure there may be some restitution. Similar to a grand larceny or criminal mischief case perhaps, which is sorta the crime at hand. stubbz
thats one dumb kid thats all i can say. bred and raised bucks re not trophys no matter how big the rack is. in my opinion if that deer was the honest world record deer its really no record at all being a raised deer. i would hope the boone n crocket scoring reflects for raised deer otherwise its just stupid. deer are wild when there raised and fed special food n so on of course they may reach world record class. a true wild deer is the only thing you can shoot and consider it a trophy. i dont know to many guys that mount the heads of cows they kill thats all killing raised deer is to me.
