I finally had a deer in my scope, but it was a full frontal shot, almost 200yards and I was not feeling it with 5 minutes of legal light left.  Close but no cigar!

A “cruiser” came thru the woods behind my new stand, scent checking a clover plot, 5 minutes after sunset.  I was able to cash in on the new 1/2 hour rule: A BB and  bb (during early antlerless gun season) from that stand this year.

I was looking for one with at least 4 on a side.  This one had 5 on the right, so I let him have it.  Looks like I need to wait another year, to see how my 30/30 works on an Adirondack buck.  I will be hunting only bear and grouse up there next weekend.

Grandpa’s old Ithaca 37 16 gauge got a nice buck on his old farm tonight.  I didn’t trust my Marlin slugmaster in the cold, so that’s what I used.

I am guessing 3.5 since he taped within 1/4” of the last BB I killed on that farm (42-1/4” chest girth).   I will save the lower insizers just in case I decide to.  I still have the lower jaw from that last one.  Does it matter if they are a few years old and what do they charge ?
