  1. I just think deer hunters as a group are just too different to make everyone happy. I am simple to please as I mind my own business and hunt the way I like. I don't worry about what others shoot. I don't have a fit if someone comes walking through my hunting area because I don't own the land. All I need is a property to hunt, and I will consistantly shoot mature bucks if they are in the area. Are they all wall hangers? Not by a long shot. But, they have been through a few hunting seasons, and are usually tougher to get close to. I hear all the time that when I let the young bucks walk someone else will get them. So what. It is my choice, and how I enjoy my deer hunting. Funny how on this site you have guys that can show you the same bucks on trail cams year to year, so they don't all get shot. On the other side of the coin, I have friends that have very limited vacation time, or none left at all. They have just as much fun shooting the first buck they see. They are not striving to shoot the biggest buck. They are looking to fill their tag in the short time they have to get venison in the freezer. I congratulate them and gladly help them eat some fresh back straps. My overall opinion is live and let live. There are tons of deer in this state, and any deer that is legally taken, is making good use of nature's bounty. I would like it to be one buck only no matter how it is harvested. I hunt 4f and 7m and some years I have to settle for a couple does. I have been fortunate to harvest a nice buck most years as I have improved as a hunter, but it is good hunting land and a pretty long walk to get to my spots which helps a lot.

  3. A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY TO THINK ABOUT.......December 29, 2012 marks the 122nd Anniversary of the murder of 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. These 297 people, in their winter camp, were murdered by federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protection”. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting, and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children. About 40 members of the 7th Cavalry were killed, but over half of them were victims of fratricide from the Hotchkiss guns of their overzealous comrades-in-arms. Twenty members of the 7th Cavalry's death squad, were deemed “National Heroes” and were awarded the Medal of Honor for their acts of [cowardice] heroism. We hear very little of Wounded Knee today. It is usually not mentioned in our history classes or books. What little that does exist about Wounded Knee is normally a sanitized “Official Government Explanation”. And there are several historically inaccurate depictions of the events leading up to the massacre, which appear in movie scripts and are not the least bit representative of the actual events that took place that day. Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people. Before you jump on the emotionally charged bandwagon for gun-control, take a moment to reflect on the real purpose of the Second Amendment, the right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The argument that the Second Amendment only applies to hunting and target shooting is asinine. When the United States Constitution was drafted, “hunting” was an everyday chore carried out by men and women to put meat on the table each night, and “target shooting” was an unheard of concept. Musket balls were a precious commodity and were certainly not wasted on “target shooting”. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and it refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defensive purposes, should such tyranny arise in the United States. As time goes forward, the average citizen in the United States continually loses little chunks of personal freedom or “liberty”. Far too many times, unjust gun control bills were passed and signed into law under the guise of “for your safety” or “for protection”. The Patriot Act signed into law by G.W. Bush, was expanded and continues under Barack Obama. It is just one of many examples of American citizens being stripped of their rights and privacy for “safety”. Now, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is on the table, and will, most likely be attacked to facilitate the path for the removal of our firearms, all in the name of “our safety”. Before any American citizen blindly accepts whatever new firearms legislation that is about to be doled out, they should stop and think about something for just one minute- Evil does exist in our world. It always has and always will. Throughout history evil people have committed evil acts. In the Bible one of the first stories is that of Cain killing Abel. We can not legislate “evil” into extinction. Good people will abide by the law, and the criminal element will always find a way around it. Evil exists all around us, but looking back at the historical record of the past 200 years, across the globe, where is “evil” and “malevolence” most often found? In the hands of those with the power, the governments. That greatest human tragedies on record and the largest loss of innocent human life can be attributed to governments. Who do the governments always target? “Scapegoats” and “enemies” within their own borders…but only after they have been disarmed to the point where they are no longer a threat. Ask any Native American, and they will tell you it was inferior technology and lack of arms that contributed to their demise. Ask any Armenian why it was so easy for the Turks to exterminate millions of them, and they will answer “We were disarmed before it happened”. Ask any Jew what Hitler’s first step prior to the mass murders of the Holocaust was- confiscation of firearms from the people. Wounded Knee is the prime example of why the Second Amendment exists, and why we should vehemently resist any attempts to infringe on our Rights to Bear Arms. Without the Second Amendment we will be totally stripped of any ability to defend ourselves and our families.

  4. If this law passes mark my words. Gun owners will be shot in their homes by the police as they kick in your door at 3 am to come confiscate your guns.

  5. This happened because most NY gun owners let it happen. Many who are not affected by this new law couldn't care less about those who are affected. Selfish, stupid, near sighted morons! They'll be coming for these morons guns next, but they don't believe that either.

  6. Yes, this thread is very unsettling ......... but true. If you all think that this is the end, just wait until the next multiple murder. They aren't done yet. And by the way, we aren't done yet either. There is still the federal action coming. Keep those emails, letters and phone calls coming folks. And then there is the follow-up activity where every vote for this legislation should mean an automatic vote for that candidate's opponent in the next election. If our sincerity about this kind of crap is to maintain any credibility, we had better follow through with our determination to bring havoc on the re-election campaigns of any of these people that are voting against our 2nd amendment rights.

  12. Some of the people that voted and gave their opinions didn't sound too swift . Where the hell did that one person get the "weapons of mass destruction" thought . And for those that talked the "protect the children line , from 2002 through 2009 , there were 1,004,127 abortions in New York State alone . Who protected these children ? Over one million lives cut short by doctors through abortions but that's okay ? http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/states/new_york/

  21. Yep, the battle was in the Senate and the NY Republicans sold us down the river. It will pass the Assembly with ease. Ive been saying that the politicians are all the same for a long time. The proof is now well documented.

  34. Refuse? See this pic? That doe, shot this year in ohio, is his first deer in 40 seasons. Thats right. 40. Refuse all you want, but if he shoots a spike, its probably going over the fireplace in the living room. Thats the thing, trophies are in the eye of the beholder. I know all about ar. Ive published articles on it. Heck, people who have replied on this thread have been sourced in the article. Writing that piece forced me to really research it. Bottom line, after all that research, i never came to the conclusion that it was worth it to limit a hunter more via law/regulation. If you want to do that on private, fine. Education is the answer, and nys dec shows that its working.

How come when there is some USEFUL legislation pending it takes FOREVER to get it passed, but when there is some ignorant , feel good, useless liberal BS to be passed, it happens RIGHT NOW...??... Once again...Glad I'm old enough so that I won't have to put up with this crap much longer.. I have never been so ashamed of my fellow Americans..

  38. I believe that the staff reads enough to get the gist of which side of the issue the letter-writer is coming from. I also believe that a check mark is made on a list indicating "For" or "Against". As far as the details of the content, they are only to validate true interest in the issue and are to indicate that the writer views this issue as very important. I have heard enough reports from legislators that show that they do boil these responses down to numbers and have in the past provided those exact numbers to the media as a ratio. I am convinced that they look at these letters as votes in thier next election. I think they have enough political savvy to understand that anyone who takes the time to compose and send an opinion on an issue is very likely to translate the response into an important part of their voting choice.

  39. Here we go with the whole looking down the nose thing...Wow where's that Ego pin when you need it... I'm very fortunate in the fact I feel comfortable enough to hold out on older deer and have more than enough doe tags for the entire family...but not every ones that fortunate...I watch my Dad in-law ...who is caring for a very ill wife full time and has bad arthritis....he loves to hunt and downing a buck...and yes at this point in his life...any buck with visible points is a thrill for him...he's payed his dues along with the friends he has come down to hunt with him ..........by the way they hunt in a low doe permit area......Do I want to see bigger more buck at camp...yes...but not at the expense of the enjoyment these older men get....... and the real effort I see it takes just to get out into the woods..... In stead of looking down your nose at ppl and having the me me me me attitude...Perhaps you should look past your nose and fit your foot into the shoe of another person for a day

  41. the problem is that this is what we are dealing with - people that cannot think past the end of their noses and honestly believe that eliminating guns will make the world a wonderful happy place with no crime.

  44. Do you not have an understanding of ...When we forget or ignore our past we are doomed to repeat it?....Perhaps that's just what the power mongers are hoping for...maybe they figure that they have raped the middle class into submission and all the well fare recipients will stand by their side and help further neuter the sheep..... I for one am not a lamb...I watched ppl I love leave this ground to die on foreign soils just to stop this from happening...they fought.... being fed a line of fear of loosing our freedoms from the out side....For what?.... The rest of us could stand by and let the enemy on our soils destroy the freedoms they died for....no...I'm at the age that I have nothing to loose except the future of my adult children and my self respect....
