  1. It's attitudes like yours that hurt legal gun owners most. Don't lump the actions of illegal gun owners and those of us. Years ago a guy in a pickup truck broadsided a limo and killed the little girl riding inside. I don't remember anyone in the press associating that creeps actions with others who own pickups. So I don't see why you are doing the same. I would like to see the follow up to this story, which we never will. Was the brother arrested? Will Bloomberg lock him up for a year? The story should focus on the breakdown of the family and the mothers inability to properly raise her children. The illegal gun only proves what legal owners already know, that no amount of laws will prevent the actions of criminals.

  2. and now this has nothing to do with anyone on here but im sure some may fall into it. Since this bill passed i have spoke with alot of gun owners and they ALL have ALOT to say about this subject as very well they should. However, what i find to be extremely strange is the very guys i speak to are 1) NOT part of the NRA 2) Did NOT even vote 3) Have not written any letters to state senators, made any phone calls or signed any petitions In my eyes thats a huge problem... If people feel so inclined to express their feelings about what they believe they should be entitled to as a right but do not and have not done anything to aid in that benefit to help protect the very right they have so much to say. the other thing i have heard in conversations is "well if they want to tax my guns i am fine with that" or "they are going to do what ever they want so why bother" Just seems like their are alot of guys taking this laying down and dont want to even put effort into protecting what they believe in. im not saying lets go crazy and get mad and angry about what we are facing but you would think so many guys who believe in their 2nd amendment and say they have the right to own a gun responsibly would come together and face this situation the best we can. Just MHO...

  3. Here you go . . . "Orozco said the gun may belong to his 21-year-old son who is "in a gang." "Both of the boy’s brothers, who are in their 20s, are known to the police, and one had been a shooting victim, sources said." I bet Cuomo thinks his new laws would have caught this one even if the boy didn't bring it to school. . . Yeah right!

  4. Just watch and see what happens in the courts. This legislation was pushed through at an incredible pace, and the NRA most likely wasnt able to do much more than the rest of us at the time. They will take their battle to the court room, as others are currently doing to try and have this repealed and struck down. Dont give up yet.

  5. If hunters are shooting 2.5's instead of 1.5's, what is gained? Still young bucks and far from maturity. Is it a mounter at 2.5 and still immature? If 2.5's and 3.5's are the goal, there are 100's of them posted every year in NY Outdoor News. And I bet only a small % get sent to them.

  6. I'll be honest here, most of you don't know what you say actually means. I do. At one point years ago, I had a firearms posession issue pop up, where I was guilty of said act through ignorance on my part not knowing the laws when I relocated to NY from VA. The only thing that kept me from doing a mandatory several years sentence was the discretion of the sheriff. My life flashed before me real fast. I'm not about to go through that again. Your perspective changes when you have handcuffs on.

  7. SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has a message for New York gun owners: Come to Texas, and bring your guns with you. "Texas is better than New York, and New York just gave us another excuse to say that," Abbott, a Republican, said on Thursday, after ads extolling Texas appeared on several media websites. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed sweeping gun-control legislation earlier this week expanding the state's ban on assault weapons and putting limits on ammunition capacity in the wake of last month's school shootings in Connecticut. Abbott, a possible candidate for governor of Texas in next year's election, used campaign money to buy ads on websites of news organizations in New York City and Albany. One ad says in classic Western script: "WANTED: Law abiding New York gun owners seeking lower taxes and greater opportunities." Clicking on the ad leads to a Facebook page touting the virtues of Texas, including the fact that the state has no income tax so "you'll be able to keep more of what you earn and use that extra money to buy more ammo." Abbott told Reuters the ads are a "way to tweak our liberal friends up in the Northeast." "It is tongue in cheek, but there is a deeper message here," he said. "Texas really does stand as the last bastion of ultimate freedom in this country. Over the last decade, more than 4 million people moved to this state, and one reason is freedom and one reason is economic opportunity." Abbott has said he will file a federal lawsuit to throw out any nationwide gun restrictions implemented by Congress. A Cuomo spokesman did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

  9. Here's the good news (if you want to call it that). Most of the people in this state don't vote (gun owners and otherwise). So if we could mobilize our gun owners and get them to learn how to use their vote, all of a sudden our minority status can become the controlling factor in elections.

  10. killing someone with a gun gives the killer distance from the victim, and makes the killing somewhat less personal..........the person who can shoot someone from a distance may not have what it takes to slit someone's throat with a knife or bash their skull in with a hammer.

  11. nobody ever walked into an elementary school and killed 20 children with a carton of cigarettes, can't remember anyone taking an automobile into a school and chasing little kids around as they ran for their lives and ran them over and killed them..............get real with the comparison's.

  15. This story can't be true... handguns are outlawed in NYC, plus there is a law that 7 year olds can't possess a firearm, and it's also against the law to bring a gun into the school as well as concealing it in a backpack... we all know that with these laws in place there is no way that any of this could have occured. unless I've been led to believe something that isn't true. Maybe there should be a bill passed that makes it illegal to ignore a law. These laws are so affective that it takes until your seventh birthday before being smart enough to obtain an outlawed firearm in a city with the strictest gun laws in the country. Without gun laws in NY can you imagine the 6 year olds that would be walking the streets with guns? Well it says that maybe his older brother put it in his backpack... that would make everything better.

  16. Humor aside, the reason why this went through so quickly was because it had been already drafted (or at least very close) and waiting for an opportunity like the recent tragedies to gain the support needed to pass. I hate to put it in those terms, but it is true.

  17. I have read in the papers that they are organizing for court challenges as well as support for some of these repeal activities. Don't forget that they also have a federal aspect to all this. Imagine the cost of such activities. Remember how they used to say "You can't fight city hall"? Imagine taking on the federal government and state governments. Now try to picture how you would do that sort of thing all by yourself.

  19. Joe - Jeremy and I have discussed this stuff on many levels and still do. AR is only being implemented based on hunter desire at this point - it has zero to do with a biological impact on the herd. The DEC is attempting to balance hunter desire into the equation as a way to keep license numbers up/grow/etc. The only way AR is going into a WMU is when the populous in that wmu want it overwhelmingly. The expanded counties were ones that actively demonstrated a desire for it. One WMU, I forget which, was up for AR, but the % of hunter desire for it was not highe enough to mandate AR. And, that is documented, too. All of these quotes are available in the five year management plan, too. But, he's been pretty clear with me that AR is not the way to go as far as mandating goes, and that the ONLY reason for it is hunter desire at this point. I'm not really sure where you are trying to say the DEC is changing positions on this, especially when it is in their current plan. It is not and has not changed.

  20. They cant even enforce the no fireworks laws. People pour into PA before the 4th to visit fireworks shops on the boarder. The shops cant sell to people from PA and you get carded at the door to make sure you are from NY. The shops are packed with NY'rs. PA has always had a screw you attitude when it come's to NY. I pay 99 cents for a can of chew in PA that costs almost $5 in NY. And just think if you buy in PA the taxes are way less so ammo cost less and It's less of a headache.

  22. What are you talking about? When did I lump everyone who owns a gun (myself included) into this category? Its irresponsible or illegal owners like the ones involved with this story who give everyone a bad reputation. But it still gives gun owners bad press. Anti's see this and they don't think about the responsible legal owners, they think about guns in their schools.

  24. This thread reminded of a story my dad told me about him trying a new broadhead about 25 years ago , he pulled the cardboard layered target out of the barn and let go a monster 2 blade from his jennings 4 cam , he said it took off like an airplane over the target and went through the back door of a prestine 40 ford delivery van being stored in the barn . Good times

  27. The answer is Apathy and Ignorance.. the greatest killer of all things important in America... the same reason that only a third of the eligible voters make it to the polls to vote... the same reason that only a handful of members of any club usually do the work of the whole club. Its the human condition and not a good criteria for the effectiveness of the organization... and I bet you can't name another organization in America with 4.25 million members... as for being in the minority... seems to me like the trend as of late is that the minorities get what ever they want if they scream loud enough.. and I promise you .. the NRA and it's members will be screaming loud.

  28. "Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal." Janet Reno The tank, the B-52, the fighter-bomber, the state controlled police and the military are the weapons of dictatorship. The rifle is the weapon of democracy... If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government—and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws. more Edward Abbey quotes

  30. I agree w/ gthphtm. I think deer jacking is a bigger problem than many will admit, or know about. Dec needs to get tough with poachers. This includes setting up sting operations, and a punishment that is more than a slap on the wrist.

  31. We had a fantastic time at Otis pike today!!!!! The men did not do as well as the woman:( We saw a total of about 24 deer. A number of them were moving fast but we (my god daughter) managed to keep up with them and bagged her first deer!!!! We had section 9 and 10 which was huge. My brother and I probably walked 10 miles each. He shot a few times and so did I. I had 4 doe served to me on a silver platter but missed the lead doe and my gun jammed on the second shot. My buddy missed one also but many were moving fast as we were pushing a lot of the property. My brother texted me and said I will get my daughter a deer on this drive. He sent 7 deer her way and she took the last one in the group. I'm so proud of her, it was a great day we saw a lot of deer and will do this again next year, well maybe next week (I feel a bit sick) lol BTW I flushed out 3 grouse 4 pheasant. It was a great day!!!!!
