  1. 2nd bird down!! I went out last this morning about 9AM. Walked out and got into the woods, called for about 1 hour then the rain came. Decided to leave. As I was walking out through the field I see a hen running. I hit the ground and she stops. The field is really tall grass so I start to call. I hear a gobble!!! I stay on my knees trying to find him and finally catch a glimpse. He is about 300 yards out. I keep calling and he keeps coming. He got to about 50 yards and I lose sight of him in the tall grass. Now I start to freak a little bit. I call a few more times and I can hear him spitting and drumming so I know he is close. I peak my head up above the grass I he is about 25 yards. I raise my gun put the bead on his head and BANG!! Dead right there!. 9 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs.

  2. For $5 you can get this all access patch on ebay that grants you unlimited hunting rights on powerline right of ways! If anyone questions it's authenticity, just tell them go talk to your supervisor 4 poles down....he's the guy in the white hard hat,lol

  3. for the trail cam, this Tom seems happy... Do to life commitments, been too busy to get out there earlier in the month to do some hunting, So I guess I missed the best part of spring season, always next year. Atleast I got good pictures of this big boy and some jakes. Was out there this weekend for first time and saw three jakes but no shot opportunities.See what happens this coming weekend.

  8. What a small world it really is! That is awesome! Thanks! He really "high tailed it" (if he had one) out of Erie County! No Tail was taken in Sussex County NJ! This is what makes targeting tree rats and killing them the ultimate hunt, their range is just incedible!!! people think black bears have a huge torritory, nothing compared to these elusive bushy tails (again, if they have one)! I gotta call my taxidermist (full mount, limb sneak), he is not going to believe this one!

  9. Tips: Hunt the open fields this time of year....or hunt the woods Call softly this year....or call aggressively Make sure & use a jake decoy this time of year....or lose the decoys The gobblers will be henned up this time of year....or they will be cruising for hens Your best chance of killing a bird is right off the roost...or at 11:45 All kidding aside...the only given is you'll probably need a rainsuit, a thermacell, and a couple bottles of water...and you can't get one if you don't get out there. Good luck, & shoot straight!

  10. Wow- great vid and what a trophy! Unfortunately, "no-tail" was NOT a geneticly inferior animal..and at one time he had a nice full, bushy, typical tail! Back in the archery season of 2010, he appeared in front of my stand in Erie County and gave me an oppertunity also. He must have heard my bow limb tap the rail, and when I released the shot, he jumped the string and was never seen on the property again, but he did "shed" a nice 10" tail before he dissapeared. So it would seem to me, you got yourself a nice "mature non- typical trophy squill" of at least 4 yrs old despite what his narrow ear spread may indicate! Let me know if you want his 2010 "tail shed" to go along with any taxidermy work you plan on having done to this ellusive rat, and congrats again. Thanks for giving me some closure as to what ever became of this beast!.

  12. I'm jealous! I'm tagged out and the birds are screaming. I heard alot of gobblin' on Sat.+Sun.. This morning was unreal. I had 2 longbeards follow 2 hens up my driveway, screaming all the way. There was also a longbeard and 4 jakes in the bottom of the field with a hen. Well, all hell broke loose and a seven way fight broke out. What an awesome sight! I came home from work at 5:00pm and there was a lone gobbler out in the field just gobbling away. Good luck! Hopefully they are screaming in your neck of the woods.

  14. Wow, Joe has a special on his "Trifecta" tree rat hunts and they consist of trophy gray squirrel, red squirrel and flying squirrel (flu flus required) hunts for only $24,999.99! A must for the hunter looking to get into the "Tree Rat Super Slam"... LOL Anyone else hear Tom Miranda was heading to Texas for a fox squirrel to complete his???

  15. joseph Over the more years than I care to admit to, the big factor in not being to group arrows when starting out is not having developed a consistent anchor point. Sure, equipment is important, but it takes time and practice to get in your groove. Watch yourself draw back in the mirror a few times with you eyes closed, then open your eyes and see if it looks the same, or have a friend watch you. Once you get good at hitting the same anchor point each time watch your groups tighten. Happy shooting!

  17. You are correct Belo. i was just looking at it from a cost perspective. Sooner or later , the hunting arrows must be shot to make sure they are flying right. i don't even know how many times the three arrows in my quiver have been through deer, but they were certainly shot at a target before they were put in the quiver. Then, after the shot, they are inspected, resharpened, fired again at a target just to be certain they are still flying right, and then go right back in my quiver. Fast Eddie mentions a little gimmick that I do also. I just looked in my quiver and can just make out a 3 and a 5 on two of them, and the other one i just can't tell. the reason I numbered mine was just in case I had a broadhead that was not right. It is nice to know when you have a couple fliers and look and see it is the same arrow. Haven't had it happen in years, but you never know when you are going to have a faulty product due to poor shipping or handling. But we are getting a little off track. Right now he needs to get set up and get his muscle memory going, so shooting the bow becomes almost automatic. I mention 3 and 3 also because I only shoot three arrows at a time when I am practicing. Just my preferance. I am in no hurry, and take my time. I don't mind the walking and I shoot from a lot of distances and angles and heights. But, i also have the time or make the time to do a lot of shooting. Joe can't do that until he gets shooting better at 10 yards. He may be shooting fine, but with all the oddball arrows, it is hard to tell.

  19. Oh, that's just plain crap. That's like the justification for some of the gun laws ..... if it saves just one life then it's worth doing. Yeah ... right. The fact is that that line of reasoning has been used to justify more damned abuses than any other argument going. The fact is that these gross images can not be justified for invading the homes of people who would rather not see that kind of garbage. TV programming should still be subject to rules of good taste and a respect for the sensitivities of the majority of viewers who are paying good money for that kind of crap. You want to muck around in the lives of others and try to dictate what's good for them, find some other way of doing it than forcing these gross images into the lives of every TV viewer (smoker or not). Oh, and by the way, does anyon ereally believe that smokers are unaware of the consequences of smoking. I maintain that if they have been under a rock somewhere and aren't aware of all the health problems associated with smoking, they aren't likely to be swayed with some gross TV ads.
