Well I joined the forums and loved being a part of them. Around last year I noticed my taptalk app wouldn't let me log in, and after trying to log in on my computer, It seemed like I was deleted from HuntingNY forums. I tried sending multiple emails to the site to try and see what happened to my account and never received a response. ANYWAYYYY... I'm back under the same name. I got a great 10 pt buck last year and a couple does for the freezer so you can say it was a successful year!3 points

The DEC admitted that it was overdone in the 2003 off-season. I know this because I penned the article for NYON after talking w/Hurst and Batchellor (he wasn't in his most recent role at that time), and I forget who else. That's why the DMPs were cut back well into the double digits the following year nearly statewide. They admitted that their efforts and the winter weather played a role pretty openly at that time. When the harvest goes from 308 to 180...something significant happened to cause it. The DEC still quotes the 2002 winter/DMP allocation situation today in their explanation of the overall DMP process. And also, almost worthy of a slap in the face is this "DMP Trivia" they post online. Look at the year where the most DMPs where issued. Even that chart shows that the number of DMPs issued 5 years later were a mere 56% of what was issued in 2002...that chart is a good reflection on how long it actually takes a herd to rebound with active hunting and other mortality factors taken into account. The DEC needs to have a pretty solid plan or we're potentially being setup for a repeat.2 points

I don't think that a lot of these people ever think about the impact littering has on the landowner, and how our difficult hunting access problems can be made even worse by this kind of landowner abuse. If we want access to private land to open up, the best thing that we can all do is to make sure that we act properly when using someone else's land. The quickest way to see those posted signs go up is to be throwing crap all over a guy's land. Relative to the drinking and hunting, I think we have discussed that and found laws regarding that. There is no question that this is unacceptable. People show enough poor judgment even when they are sober without adding intoxication to the mix.2 points

The gov't cuts it up for them in to little bites ,blows on it so its not too hot and then finishes off with pretending its an air plane coming into hangar and just maybe makes the sound vrooooomm while doing some aerial acrobatic stunts on its final approach into the hangar .2 points

Now is the time of year when you can catch as many bluegills/sunfish as you want to clean..As long as you don't exceed the 50 fish per day limit.. They are spawning now and fishing should be good for at least 2-3 more weeks. Four of us fished last Friday at the Penn Yan end of Keuka Lake.. We fished 3 hours and ended up filleting 80 fish, which resulted in 8 pounds of succulent panfish filets. Look for the fish concentrated on spawning beds in shallow areas of you favorite lake, in 2 to 15 feet of water.. We use small jigheads tipped with wax worms, redworms, mealworms or most any other type of grub, but small plastics or flies are effective also.. It's fun, easy fishing...A great time to take the kids along..1 point

Well, Ive been wanting to do something like this for quite sometime. Over the past 2 months me and my wife and our two children have set out with the camera in hopes to make it happen. This is the first time I have put music and video to my writing so I would love some constructive criticism regarding the cinematography, the writing and the entirety of the piece in general. Looking back on it now, I wished I would have had more experience with sound editing. Some folks online have said the music is too loud and the voice over is too soft while others have told me they could hear it fine. Anyways, since it is related to hunting and fishing I thought I'd share it with yall. Please let me know what y'all think.1 point

For your first project, awesome! Looking forward to your next film. The sound was ok but the voice was very low, I had to have the volume on max to hear your voice. Good luck on the next one.1 point

In my county (St. lawrence) we worked hard to get our local legislature turned around. We now have a 10-5 gun rights legislature. Last night they passed this new law, which in a nut shell makes the judge show cause for not allowing unrestricted conceal carry permits. This would not have happened without a lot of hard work by local 2nd amendment patriots, which I am proud to have lead for the past two years and spent countless hours getting this done. Step up and you can make a difference too, even if ti is on the local level to start. http://northcountrynow.com/news/st-lawrence-aims-less-restriction-concealed-carry-licenses-01450251 point

we had over 250 people show up at the meeting in support of this change. YOU can make a difference.1 point

Yup, I sure had no problem doing this! Someday they will get it right. I just dont understand how they dont take a page or two out of a states playbook that has great deer, great deer management and everybody involved is happy? There are many they could copy thats for sure!1 point

I used the relevant part of the quote so nobody had to wade through the rest and lose the point. Look, I am simply concerned that an implication of all this co-op stuff is that it is some kind of cure for NYS management problems. It is not and we need to stay focused on the DEC. Co-ops are things that individuals do for their own personal benefit. That is not what this thread is about. Given the context of this thread, if co-ops were not introduced into this discussion about the DEC as being some kind of magic bullet to solve state management shortfalls, then I really don't understand how it relates to the thread at all. I don't want anyone leaving this discussion with the idea that the DEC is off the hook and a solution is on the way via co-ops. The DEC is still the focus. The main focus, and the only focus when you are talking about NYS game management problems.1 point

Except for the bear being destroyed, can you imagine if it was a 10 year olds birthday? BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!1 point

All in all I can tell your heart was in the right place when you made this. Except for the music being just a bit too loud everything else was fine. For a first attempt,ya did real good and will only get better from here on out as you gain experience. I play and record music as a hobby for the most part. Getting used to digital recording takes time and a lot of trial and error. Feel free to pm me any time for music samples or any advice I can give on that end. Keep at it! Would really like to see the next one. And above all else, have fun doing it!1 point

Well you have read the problems I have with grackle the turkey the cows squirrel and of course woodchucks and rabbits...I plant that and it comes up with just enough room to produce ears...and yes it's close and even deer do not care to go pushing through until they see good corn in it.1 point

That boat has sailed, as alluded to Doc's "if it aint broke, don't fix it" response when the noise around the harvest/pop numbers was questioned a year or two ago. The DEC has shown zero appetite to discuss their methods beyond the fact they believe in them 100%. I think most people right now are wanting to short term address the season changes because its an immediate impact. Pee into the wind or just pee on yourself...at least in the wind, some of it misses you.1 point
-
That's partially true, but not proven in real-life as you alluded to with having similar harvest numbers. If you look at the DMP over-issue back in 2002 or so, it took several years for the harvest numbers to climb back into a relative range that wasn't such "dire straits." One fawning season didn't fix the mismanagement.1 point

as i said earlier, save some money and just by a complete fuel system cleaner. It's essentially the same thing without filling up a big truck with race gas and more targeted.1 point

Oh now, you know how perfect their statistical methods of management are. Haven't they told you enough times? They even have some statistical gurus come in and swear to it. Don't ever offer suggestions for improvements or you will get the old "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" line. In other words they are convinced that their methods are flawless and everything is under control and on track.1 point

sent in this date, it does seem that if they the DEC can screw the archer they will. I have been a gun and bow hunter my total life ( 74 years young now ) I sure love the early start now of Oct 1, I have bad lungs COPD, and legs are about gone, so the early start in Oct give me the ability to hunt, when it gets cold below 40's, I just no longer can be out there, so the gun season is no longer for me. The bow season I want the chance to take a buck or doe. In my area, after this winter I am seeing just about a few doe's on my pasture areas. I would like the DEC to start being for the hunter and no the insurance agents or farmer that would love all deer gone. I sure wish the DEC would try to have a program were a hunter could get the ability to hunt local farms if there were reported crop damage, the DEC could pay for some of the amount of damage if damage is due to deer. West Va had a program like that, the farmers were listed by County area and each farmer could say how many could hunt per day and how many days he allowed hunting. A hunter would pay a extra $5 to a damage fund for the DEC to use. The program was a great one that I utilized when I lived down south.1 point

For those that don't know... it takes just one fawning season to put back into the population of deer what was taken out the previous year. That is... given the current annual harvest numbers. Now that may not translate well in every habitat... every season, but more to the overall herd. So population control at present is going to be a concern, especially in areas where large habitats have been lost to development. That is where the greatest concern is for over-population in NY... the big problem with population control is that the DEC has not created ANY real plan for those areas except to issue more tags in that WMU... tags that cant be used in the areas with the worst population problems... the old hunting spots in that WMU that are now new neighborhoods teeming with deer!!1 point

and if drones are still legal not in season, who's to say you're not just taking pictures of nature? for that matter why can't i fly my drone in season and take pics of nature?1 point

The above is true and contains so much " fail" it makes ones head spin. Stiletto is a style of knife NOT a means of opening , a gravity knife opens by well gravity not centrifugal force . Only in NY is gravity and centrifugal force considered one and the same . Where is Sheldon when we need him ......, Personally I ignore it all and carry what I want , worked well for decades .1 point

I'll bet that an awful lot of those bucks , will be reported killed on the 16th day of the season .....1 point
