Killed this one this morning. He fell in love with my aluminum pot. Gobbled a bunch on his way in. I did not have to do much convincing. A few clucks purs and leaf scratches. He was hooked.12 points

I saw this cool idea on Facebook and decided to build one and maybe regain control of my garage, which has been taken over by bikes, scooters, and every sporting good you can think of We will see if it comes out as nice as the one in the picture!2 points

Ran out after dinner to look for some mushrooms in the creekbottom. I didn't find any but I did get a special treat while I was there! My first fawn of the year!2 points

Not many pics but a hawk and rabbit...sitting at same spot just hours apart...a hen turkey and the tail end of something I couldn't recognize perhaps coyote...then these: 3 buck but one with some mass(bases look good sized even in velvet) and branched and our first fawn sighting....That is my original cardboard blind in the back ground..took my turkey out of it this spring. The fawn are on an early schedule and should be big come Oct/Nov.2 points

Joe Hesseny is a decent and honorable guy. I wouldn't hesitate to use him for a collection of guns to avoid the hassle of individual sales. Unless you show up pretty early you can't even get in the door during one of his gun auctions, and they can get pretty lively. Good for the seller.2 points

Our goat barn was built out of rough cut, why I recognized it as such . We never stained or painted and it weathered to a very pretty grey ...20 years old and still in great shape...Out lasting the shingled roof, that's getting a new metal roof covering this year. His shed will look just fine when all done and stained.2 points

It has been tabled the last i knew. They are aware of the lawsuit that will follow any silly moves like those. No science or fact that whitetail urine has ever carried any disease or harm to any wildlife.2 points

yeah I did. I was able to order 2 online that have speed limiters and wireless remote shut offs for 549 each delivered to my house. We'll see what kind of quality they are when they get here.2 points

I bumped a big doe today on my way out of the woods. Mayapples and Indian polk made for great ground cover to hide a little one . I looked hard for a half hour looking for fawn(s) After seeing your pics I was determined. Scored a big fat zero on my hunch. Love the pics wooly. Thanks for sharing. I always show the wife and daughter as well.2 points

I "worked" three gobblers in the past two days. All three gobbled to my crow call numerous times over the course of our time together. Many, many times I've located birds by the crow call as that is my usual first call when jumping out of the truck or if I'm in a bad position and don't want to use a hen call and find out a bird is close and I can't move. This is when a crow call is a huge plus because he isn't going to come running in to that. Once I have a gobbler located I use the crow call to check on his movement so as to NOT over use a hen call. Once I know where he is I can tweak my strategy and MAYBE kill the bastid....... And no, it hasn't worked as planned this year for one reason or another. I've had some very close encounters and haven't sealed the deal as of today. I've been plagued with some foot issues and have been in a fair amount of discomfort.........lousy excuse I know! Dan are you using the Faulk's?2 points

You know you've spent a lot of time in the turkey woods when at home (in village ) I hear a crow sound off and listen for a shock gobble2 points

Thanks again guys! I struck out on the mushrooms again today, but I bumped into my little buddy again on the other side of the creek! He's not one for posing just yet, but he's a natural when he's in front of the camera! Anyone know what that ground cover plant with the blue flowers is called? It grows like a carpet down here and really hides the fawns well.2 points

I mowed my lawn for the first time today.. Neighbors on both sides mowed THEIRS and shamed me into it.. That means I'll be a SLAVE to my damn grass every 4 or 5 days for at least 3 months, maybe more if we have a wet summer.. I've been threatening to pour the whole lawn to concrete and paint it green.1 point

I've given up..time whats that ? Ohhh that thing that sits on my shoulder chewing on my ear... I stopped worrying and just pop in as many different jobs a day I can manage. Some days I never get even one job done (other than the house chores)...but most are well on the way...today was packing lunch, doing dishes, sorting mail, 2 loads of laundry ,feeding critters, my 2 mile walk, filling sprayer covering plants and spraying the last of bigger fields. Then raking and loading 10 wheel barrels of rocks. The bad knee only had a "catch" once but walked it out. I then hand raked 6 more piles of rocks ...Pulled Chinese garlic plants and now having a late lunch. Will do more laundry and go Roto till the areas I'm planting the brassica in the garden and then come home to fix dinner. Wash more dishes, and iron clothes for tomorrow and the weekend Then fall asleep trying watch the blacklist..I like James Spader( remembering his name shows that..lol).....tomorrow repeat1 point

Oh, it's the club that denies global warming, and that raptors are poisoned by bullet fragments. It's made up of people who believe the 2nd amendment was handed down by God himself. It's the club that thinks persecuting coyotes actually does something besides increasing coyote reproduction. It's populated with people who think the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim. Some others who think we need to log the Forest Preserve. Some members are gung-ho frackers. If you think we need more deer, everywhere, regardless of the impacts to forest and other wildlife, you can certainly join.1 point

I just brought 5 guns, 3 old hunting knives ( '68 Puma white Hunter ,Marbles from 1911), A box of old ammo, a scope off my deer shotgun , to Hesseny auctions , mentioned above . They seem very nice, they research prices ( the more it sells for the more they get ) and handle all the paperwork, nics checks and so on . They said it all would sell, and prices seem to be around the retail valves , sometimes less sometimes more, but it tends to average out. Time will tell, but I wasn't about to try and sell them one by one, meeting each buyer at a gun shop for nics check , dealing with no shows and , low ballers.1 point

Just got back home after hitting the woods early. I tried going to 2 other spots that I knew about, problem was there were already vehicles parked there!!! Went back to the same woods I was at yesterday, finally heard 2 gobblers sound off about 100 yards away. Set up rather quickly and gave out a few calls, they gobbled one more time then went completely silent again. Heard hens yelping as well. Stayed right till 11:30 am this morning, ZIP again!! After 7 mornings so far this season, only two mornings I heard gobbles then they went silent on me. One morning called in 7 jakes, The rest complete silence. With the warmer weather coming, I suspect that things might get better. The Toms are still henned up, and don't want to play yet, at least in the places I have hunted so far. My tailbone is sorer than hell right now from sitting so dam long each day!!1 point

You have to be realistic on what you are looking for. the following is from Charles J Alsheimer’s book strategies for Whitetails: Frankly, in the majority of whitetail habitats a 140 to 145-inch is as close to top-end as it gets. To expect anything more is wishful thinking.1 point

Just got home from morning hunt. Friend took me to a woods I've never been to before. Gorgeous morning out and pretty woods. Both can't believe we didn't hear a gobble throughout the hills. It was dead silent out with no wind. Called in lone hen as we stood on trail trying to fire up old tom . Caught with no headnets on as she clucked and purred her way into 25 yards or so before she saw us. She was calling so soft it sounded a few hundred yards away at first. Caught one look of my ugly mug and putted and took to wing. Saw a few birds in field mode on the way home. Day #11 complete. Work at noon tomorrow so ah what the heck. I'll give it a go.1 point

some of the biggest bucks I've seen around here get shot end up never getting put into any record. saw a set of antlers, sawed off at skull plate, in a basement, collecting dust and spider habitat that was shot "out back". it had so much mass carrying to each beam and tine tip that the 19 7/8" inside spread visually looked closer to 13-14" young buck until you brought it down to eye level. felt like holding a set of dumbbells.1 point

Lack of snow cover...but this area now is a new disced area from the last two years...Shale and it is the absolute pits!...cause of the 2 new tires on the sprayer . Nope this will never see a driveway....disced shale is like driving over a field of broken glass but much stronger... Honest to Pete I must say to myself a thousand times each year...How did he EVER farm this land? He planted corn and beans in this area and never removed rocks and told me personally never limed the area? Seriously! How???? I'm only working the 3-4 acres that didn't revert back to woods on 18 acres he planted. You should see the woods...no soil...trees growing out of rocks...1 point

Speaking of antlers ...I hope to get a pic of the deer I saw last night. Coming home I always slow and check out the lane way. Well the neighbors road (grassy trail) next to my fence had deer. They were right by the road and the one had something I've never seen before. He had a solid beam across the top of his head about 4-5 inches high. It immediately reminded me of a suede covered pommel horse..even though he didn't look particularly big you could see distinct skin lines along the base of his neck and over his shoulders...I actual stopped and backed up to get a better look at him. he had 4 other deer at least 2 buck with him...They were too far back to get a size comparison....Looks like I may move a few cams around..1 point

That maybe the tip of the year here..I read someplace this week that NYS has a possible urine ban on the table for this year...1 point

Yes, Larry, I have been using the Faulk's. Despite the fact that I have not had much response to it THIS season, it is the loudest, most authentic sounding crow caller I have ever used.1 point

Pretty sure that's Myrtle. (The plants, NOT the fawn! ) http://home.howstuffworks.com/periwinkle-myrtle.htm I have one area out in the hardwoods where there's a few large patches of it. Must be pretty shade tolerant. It stays that dark lush green color all year long. I've never seen any deer or turkey eat it or noticed any sign of browse on it. Guess it's just for looks! LOL Awesome pics of the fawn!! Brightened my day to see those pics!1 point

Hope you guys don't mind a few fresh pics from the last few days of the little runt. Today makes 5 days in a row now I've managed to find him in this same general area, but he's starting to get his legs under him now! Wont be long before his range expands as he starts growing stronger, eating leafy greens, and learns some big boy escape tactics! I really had a blast with this guy the last few days and he seemed to enjoy my company as well!1 point

Unless you have thousands of acres (and i'm not even sure of that relevance) you cant manage a herd. Your neighbors mean more to your NY property than soil nutrients, plots, etc. a few prongs to this issue...it wont change without laws and most will be as bad as their neighbor in spite of letting one walk to its death. As stated above- 2 yos are NY trophies to 90% of the guys out there (at least). My brother shot a 132" 2 yo and was thrilled...I was crushed. Some people get it...most don't want to1 point

I just picked up an Ozark Trail tumbler and it works pretty darn good so far. I too like the Yeti owners - but I don't own one of their products. My wife has zero desire to let me buy one and she knows what they are and how much their coolers cost, so I'd be in trouble if it just appeared.1 point

Thanks guys! Elmo, by the time I spotted the little rascal he was only 3 or 4 ft away. I knew he wasn't going anywhere so I looked around for momma and didn't see her, so I spun on my 18-55mm lens and got down to his level. By then I was more like 1.5-2ft away and that's why you only see 6 shots here. Mom would have had to clear a creek to put the hooves to my head but that thought was always on my mind. The doe leave their fawns here a lot during the day every year and are seldom ever around but she'll come back for him. The fawns I find here have a very good survival rate from what I've noticed compared to fawns further up the hill that have coyotes and other critters to contend with. This spot is relatively close to houses where predators don't hang around much day or night. Year after year they just love to hide their fawns here!1 point

I run into a lot when I put on them on food plots or fields in time lapse. either to survey deer or to watch multiple trails leading into a field or plot. suppose it could burn me but i key stroke through photos on full screen view. i play attention to the starting pic number then stop once i hit something i want to keep. go back to folder and delete that set of consecutive pics. then do it over and over until I'm through them.1 point
