  1. The new season provides an additional seven days of late season hunting with bows and muzzleloaders. Hunters must purchase a bowhunting or muzzleloading privilege to participate in the late bow or muzzleloader seasons and may use all deer carcass tags valid during those seasons. From DEC website.

  3. Tuesday afternoon sit would have been perfect, without the snow on the ground. Had a good size doe come out to the corn, well out of my range. Right at quiting time, five young ones came out of the brush at bow range, crossed one at a time to the corn. Looking to hunt first time between 26th and the 1st. Will have to check the hunting guide, see what can be used.

  4. Did a little walk at 3:00 did not cut one track. Ended up by my corn field. About 4:45 a Doe comes out and walks into the field. She turns and walks away and now is at 80 yards or so. Turns broadside and I let it rip. Took off did a big circle and went back where she came from.......unscathed! Oh well That's pretty much it for me. I will hunt the Holiday hunt later in the week. My neighbor has a Grand daughter that is dying to shoot her first deer. We will put on some mini drives for her.

  5. A lot of years not taking care of my hearing has resulted in a pretty severe hearing loss, these days I try the best I can to preserve what hearing I have left. Been using Honeywell Howard Leight Sport Impacts for the past several years, they are the type that amplifies sound to improve my hearing tremendously but also have a circuit that will shut down the blast of a firearm. I use them all the time and I have nothing but positives for them they work great for hunting and target shooting. The only negative is when using a long gun, when I shoulder the gun the top of the stock comb hits the bottom of the muff and the sound it makes riding on the stock is annoying and loud. So last fall Powder Valley had a giveaway closeout price on the GS Extreme ear bud type of protection that basically work the same as the Howard Leights. I have to say for hunting this type is the way to go. The muff type edges them out for all around performance but in the field hunting the earbud type works really well, I can hear Turkey talk a long way off. Al

  6. I'm sure the ability to have "mail in ballots", illegals voting and no requirement for legal ID had nothing to do with Holchul getting elected.

  7. Disagree; the Democrat part too deeply entrenched in our state and will vote party line no matter WHO is on the ballot. A real Republican cannot win in NY for Governor, and, most certainly, will not go Red for President , either.

  8. New York would have voted her out if the Republican candidate for Governor wasn't up Trump's butt the way he was. That's what killed it for him. Otherwise he would have taken her down. The total votes for the Zeldin weren't too far behind her. Trump a New Yorker or anyone else who supports him the way Zeldin did can't win in this state. Also, out of almost 20 million people residing in NYS less than 6 million voted. Enough of those not voting are registered republicans. That doesn't help matters either. Now you've got Hochul for another 4 years.

  9. Hochul is a blithering idiot, but her stupidity is dwarfed by the majority of New Yorkers who voted for her. We had a chance to bring sanity back to this state, but apparently there just are not enough people who think we need it. It's not the idiot liberal politicians. It is the voters that can blame themselves.

  13. This past summer my oldest told me in conversation he thought he could graduate college a semester early and be done. 3.5 yrs rather than 4. Apparently those college level classes he took in high school were going to pay off. Well he called me yesterday and told me he was indeed done with school and was strictly focused on his career now. He earned a BS in Finance and Financial planning. My man! From the day he turned 16 he's had a job lined up and I don't think he's ever quit. He washed cars, washed dishes, made burgers at McDonald's, did retail and even humped concrete for two summers on a crew. Last January he did an internship at a financial services company in Rochester. A couple months later they offered him a formal contract to work for them. He's been working 30hrs a week at the firm this last semester in addition to the school work. Gratified and happy for him. Hard work = success.

  14. That’s fantastic! My oldest graduates this summer. He’s really into politics. He will be going to the University of Tampa to study political science. He loathes democratic idiots. Just maybe he can make a difference in the world along with your boy!

  15. I appreciate all of the kind sentiments and I'm sure my son would as well. But the work's not done lol. Son #2 is a sophomore at Albany. We'll see how he turns out in a couple years. He's off to a good start. A quote that was introduced to me years ago. I remind my sons of it when they need it. Perhaps you know someone who could use it as well. “Tentative efforts lead to tentative outcomes. Therefore, give yourself fully to your endeavors. Decide to construct your character through excellent actions and determine to pay the price of a worthy goal. The trials you encounter will introduce you to your strengths. Remain steadfast...and one day you will build something that endures: something worthy of your potential.” ― Epictetus Thanks again.
