  1. Used a slightly modified version of Wolc deer heart recipe to do cow tongue. Looking forward to eating it after a week or 10 days.

  2. I've attached the letter from the NYS Crossbow Coalition about bill A2940. We need to make sure the ECO Chair hears our message. Please print and sign your name, and include your mailing address. I included my age, too!

  3. New York: Senate Democrats Are Destroying Gun Safety By Removing NRA Trainer Certification More proof positive that New York Senate Democrats have never cared about “gun safety.” On Monday, February 5, the Senate Codes Committee is set to move on S.138A, which strips NRA certified instructors from state statute. Certifications expire Dec. 31, 2026, and the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will then be responsible for creating curricula and promulgating rules and standards for trainer certification. Of course, there is zero evidence that they are willing or even capable of taking on the task. This bill passed the Senate last year, but it did not clear the Assembly before they ended their 2023 session. They are now bringing this legislation back early in the 2024 session, and everyone should be concerned. Please contact members of the Codes Committee immediately and respectfully request a “no” vote on S.138A by clicking the Take Action button below. For decades, the NRA has certified hundreds of thousands of trainers and has been the gold standard for firearms safety programs. There is no rationale for this move to eliminate these trainers, but the motivation is obviously purely political. This ill-conceived bill will impact almost everyone who carries concealed in New York as it will almost certainly throw the entire system into chaos, if not completely shut it down. Arguably every New Yorker is going to be impacted because they are eliminating firearms safety training as we know it. The agenda of Albany’s anti-gun Democrat Majority has become all too apparent – release criminals and disarm honest, law-abiding citizens. This has proven to be a recipe for disaster. For all their disingenuous talk about “gun safety,” eliminating the best training in the world seems to be more folly.

  4. I’ve never done or eaten deer tongue, only lamb and beef. If I had a bunch of them I would give it a whirl.

  5. I've only done it personally once. Bunch of us where curious about it so we tried it. Seemed like a lot of time and work for what you got so maybe that's why we have never done it again.

  6. A blast thread from the past, and what I can recollect from the past 60 years plus, Still have some safe queens that have yet to earn their stripes. The vast majority of my Deer hunting and kills were with 12 ga slugs and for rifle my 280 Remington. Bottom line all what I used killed deer with no problem with a well placed shot. 7. On my several hunting trips in Canada especially in Newfoundland I found tongue was very popular, I tried and developed a fondness for pickled lamb's tongue, also tried pickled hog tongue which was pretty good too. The cooks in our hunting camp cooked up Moose tongue several times in different ways and that was great also. Tongue is tasty and very underrated. Al

  8. As a youngster, I used to love it when my grandmother made pickled cow tongue. It was almost impossible for me to wait the time frame recommended before you eat it. I guess it's a old timey type thing. And, other than on this site where people pickle heart, I don't know of anyone else who makes or eats pickled meats. They also used to sell lamb tongue in small jars in the supermarkets from time to time, and I loved them. You can't find the lamb tongue anywhere these days, not even online. My kids used to crack up laughing and get all silly yelling, "gross Dad" , as I teased them with a lamb tongue hanging out of my mouth. lol

  9. Poking around on ebay I found slingshot prices ranged from just under $10 up to around $50 for something like the one pictured above. Watching the video above most of those guys use a basic traditional type slingshot for what they do and they seem pretty deadly and accurate with them, well made traditionals can be had for around $20. 12. Gramps helped me build my first slingshot. Carved wood and rubber from an inner tube. Then I got a wrist rocket. I killed alot of birds rabbits squirrel and woodchuck with mine . My job was to keep pigeons out of the barn. I was pretty bad ass with that and a blowgun.

  16. The leftists who feel sorry for these "brown people" have "white guilt" and want to alleviate it with other people's tax dollars. Leftists give far less to charities and always demand bigger government to solve everything. They also refuse to accept responsibility for anything that goes wrong with their agenda, since that will prove they are not "morally superior", just stupid.

  18. My first slingshot was a Wham-o and made from wood, I later picked up a Wrist Rocket that I believe I still have somewhere. Like just about everything else slings shot like archery equipment has evolved and some have got Hi Tech with provisions for flashlights and laser sighting. They are a lot of fun. Al

  19. When I was a kid we started hunting squirrels with "Wrist Rockets" and ball bearings when we found BB guns were not powerful enough. You get real good with them with lots of practice. It was fun and effective.
