Four Seasons- could you post a picture of your handcart/winch rig? Or at least the specs/make of the winch? Is it 12 volt? -

chads-I agree with the design of the sling. I've been using a two sling approach for the past 20 years. But what I've used is just to put a second strap on made of 1 inch heavy duty elastic. I only slip this over my head if I'm packing stuff in and need a second hand or if I'm going to be climbing a steep (like hand-over-hand) grade. Turkey run and gun situations too. -
Landwaz- in addition to checking for lead, they used to use old skillets to "burn sulfur" (they literally burnt sulfur powder mixed with alcohol) to get rid of mice, bedbugs and insects. Leaves a hard black residue. Probably alright to just scrape off and use.... but I'm a little leary of it as they sometimes mixed some insecticides with it.

Both of my parents were in WW2. My father was in Artillery, first being put in a Massachusetts NG Coast Artillery unit that was changed to a regular field Artillery. Came across day after D-day, and went all the way. Was a driver for a 2nd Lt. forward observer. Got the job as he was a great jeep mechanic. Never talked about it, especially the freeing folks from the concentration camps. Learned as much as I know from his war souvineers and his christmas phone conversations with the forward observer (I would listen in) Mother was a Mess Sergeant in the WAAC. Was in India, supporting airmen that were "flying the hump" in Burma. She talked about her time. One of her sisters was in, though I do not know if she ever went overseas. Our family seems to have been in every war from the French and Indian war. Citizen soldiers, join up then return to civilian life post war. And Pygmy, my mother also outranked my father when they got out.

All the 220's have rifled barrels and every one I have seen (3) shoot really well, Like 2 to 3 inches at 100 yds. If you are in a area that requires shotguns, they would be a excellent choice. I keep a couple of rifled barrel slug guns in case I go to Ohio or a NY county that has not switched to rifles.

many years ago, in my youth, I used to carry a 7 oz. beer along when I was going to be still hunting by myself in the big woods. Would put it in a stream in the a.m. and swing back by there for lunch. would taste pretty good with a sandwich and apple about midday.

I agree totally with wolc123 on turkey and chicken. Breast is o.k. in sandwich's, and chicken thighs if they are grilled. But here is what I wish to say: Happy Thanksgiving to all. We have so much to be thankful for, I know I am. Personally, I am on the way to the Peoples Socialist State of Massachusetts. But they are good folks, just misguided and I enjoy their company.

doebuck1234- may be the light but the neck and head are real dark. Almost looks like a calf elk. -
I think a reasonably competent seamstress could patch that with the appropriate wool cloth. Which I have gotten in years past at Joanns Fabric.

Engraver99-I saw cats, permethrin and ticks in the same paragraph. Permethrin is pretty innocuous to people, cows, horses and dogs. But..... supposedly it is very harmful (maybe deadly) to cats. I always cage my outside barn cat when I am spraying my gear.

very sorry for your loss. Makes me sad every time I hear of someone's dog passing.

Hope this thread continues. I usually check it every day. Find the few minutes of mirth very relaxing in a otherwise stressful day.

Pygmy- I believe the "s******g my pants", may now be referred to as "Bidening my pants" in polite company.

Friend went over to Iceland about 15 years ago. Went solo I believe. His pictures of the natives were very nice. Of course, He probably did not take pictures of the ugly ones. 15 to 1 ratio. Wow.

Pull behind quad brush cutter
Farflung replied to SWEDE's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
How many acres are you cutting? I rent a walk-behind brushcutter (usually a billy-goat, but I've used DR's and craftsman also). usually you get 24" width with the overlap. At 3 mile/hour I think it takes 4 hours to cut a acres worth. I usually use it for rough pasture, shooting lanes and trails. Hint: if you are doing more than a acre, you also need a couple of buddies and vast quantities of cool, frothy malt beverage. Costs me $80 with me picking it up. I also have a 2 acre piece done, and I hire a brushhog guy to do it. would be cheaper to do it with the walk behind, but I am old and lazy. -
What caveman said!!! What's the scariest sound to a deer in Steuben County? The sound of a cars window rolling down.

That part of the Adirondacks is really hard to hunt. Better near Paul Smiths, tupper lake, or Ray Brook. The forest preserve has a sparse deer population. Better on private lands that have ongoing timber management, but those lands are largely leased to clubs. Once there is snow, you can track but before that it is tough.

It is a very niche tree stand. Most often we use it to put up 8 feet where we are going to be driving to (especially if we have had a deer slip out the side a couple of times). Also where we need a few foot of elevation to see down-slope on a ridge and on a flat simultaneously. Or if we are goin back in a couple of miles on Adk. Forest Preserve. At the 8 foot height it only weighs probably 11 lbs. and backpacks nicely. Made of extruded aluminum.

I am looking for a Baker Ladder stand. Made by the same folks that built the Baker Climbing Stand (also know as the Baker plummeting platform of Death). I have one of them that our group uses when we need to put in lightweight stand in a hurry or in a remote location. They have a small platform, come in 3 sections, and lash to the tree with a chain. the sections are like pipe, but corrugated like corduroy.

First no till brassica plot
Farflung replied to corydd7's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
No plots for me this fall, unfortunately. My mowing guy is running a couple of weeks late, but I will probably just fertilize mowed old field. Been a crazy year and wet. -
for cover scents, for a number of years I used skunk escense. Seemed to work but got on everything and promoted rust. Have had deer walk directly to me going into my wind .... but I get a lot of grief from the wife. I do use doe urine and it seems to work somewhat. Used to use Tink's 69. Watched one buck follow a drag line that I had laid down and it came right up to my stand (and no further). Also had a tink's saturated cotton ball hanging in a tree. Just after I was hanging it up, a doe walked up to a scrape that I hung it over, reached up and ate the cotton ball (or at least pulled it down with her mouth). she was being followed by crotch horn that was grunting as he came along behind her.
