Personally that is what hunting is about for me, the challenge. Baiting, spotlighting, shooting from a vehicle are all pathetic ways of getting a deer IMHO... I agree 100% Predate they learn nothing yet most of these type of people don't want to learn they just like to cheat... Pav2704 I understand and wish NYS would ban the sale of this stuff. Wonder how NYS would feel if I tried to open up a fireworks store, kind of the same concept...

Crazy... It is deer hunting... Some see baiting as a way to hunt and usually get many deer to come in to them. It is illegal for reasons they can't understand. CDW, Mites, Fleas, Ticks and other forms of bacteria and disease can be transferred. This is a major flaw in using bait, you can cause the transfer of many things that can adversely affect your herd and the ones around it... That is the reason I do not get upset when an officer of any type asks me to unload or put down my gun... They have no clue on the persons disposition until they confront them... Scary job at times I am sure. What these people do not realize is they (Officers of the Law)are the one's who protect all the game we have to hunt! With out their support the woods would be vacant of deer in some areas as poaching would be rampant! Some people have no ethics or regard for the laws, unreal...

It is illegal to shoot from any motor vehicle, migratory bird hunting is the exception. The DEC classifies motor vehicle as this: Any device powered by anything other than muscle power... This includes boats. Deer hunting from a boat, called "float hunting" has been Illegal in NY for a long time. Does not mean you can't beach and chase them down... It use to be illegal to shoot across any body of water but I can not find that on the DEC web site, not sure if they changed that law... I wonder if it would be legal to float hunt with a bow??? I would imagine it would be a real hard shot to keep steady if it were legal...

Use a bipod or tripod for stability and put the video on the highest speed/quality for more frames per second. That will use more video space but the footage is pristine... Your choice more footage or better quality. Cool video thanks for sharing!

Lost a good friend and one of the 4 original people in the NFA club. Christopher James Flathmann passed away on 6/29/13 of a supposed self inflicted gun shot. Chris was a stable NFA member for years and his story telling was epic. He was present at my first buck kill and helped with the drag. We will miss you dearly brother. RIP This years NFA ADK Trip will be dedicated to his memory. Although Chris had issues none of his friends could see this coming and are all shocked at the outcome. His drinking was epic yet he stopped a couple of years ago due to health issues yet after he started prescription medication he seemed to change, IMO. Just trying to make sense when that some times seems impossible... ARG!!! WHY! Life is so precious.

The canoe is by far the best choice, consider weight when purchasing!!! Your back with thank you and it will make it more enjoyable to use. The second person/ or game animal is a factor, DONT get one that is too small!!! Stabilizers are great for fishing but you should not need them when hunting/scouting... If you are inexperienced it's a great comfort/safety feature!!! Depending on how far you might hike the boat in if that's an option get a good set of tires w/spare or pump or what ever might be needed in case of repairs... I am debating a 7 mile hike then put in, not a simple task and I need to get into better shape and finish my PT! Nov 1st to May 1st any person in a vessel in NYS under 21 ft must wear a PDF. NOT have, MUST wear!!! This is law... Don't risk your life, if you have clothes and boots on wear a PDF regardless of what time in the year... Any time you are going solo you need to take extra precautions! OK now I am debating a scouting trip with my Hobie! One of my hunting buddies swears by this method. Good luck and be safe! O and show pics when you get your vessel please... ARG Now you have ME shopping for a new canoe, lol. I love hunting!!!

I think when we vote them out they will get the point... Then we can remove these feel good laws that do nothing but make ordinary people into criminals for no other reason than being a gun owner... Pathetic laws that even law enforcement will not enforce. Law enforcement has stated many times they will not go door to door for this, it seems they do not believe it is enforceable... And they do not want to confront that type of threat on a daily basis, they know it would end up horribly. To bad the politicians can't see that... But politicians cant see too much that's for sure.
