  1. It is funny. I feel like an idiot with the go pro on top of my head that's for sure! but it does get close shots ok. Funny when friends tell me "The computer says deer movement is good today!", then I ask if it is bad would you not hunt? Sometimes they wont.
  2. Nothing wrong with sharing your lose with your hunting brothers and sisters, we like to argue about many thing but in the end we are all brothers and sisters and understand how important the family is. Sharing helps the healing, remember the good times. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. RIP
  3. Unrealistic expectations! lol like the turkey and deer just let down their guard simply because the season is early. Some of the remarks are funny. Just like it is so easy to kill a buck with a bow because they are not alert, lmao. I think you guys who are opposing think it is so easy to get a bird or deer early season that it will never happen the same way when they finally have to go and hunt the regular season. Well they will probably be on the same land and have the same success. So by that opinion we should stop all youth hunting because it will give them unreal expectations when they have to hunt the regular season, now I understand. Don't think it is true but at least I know why you are objecting.
  4. Sounds like a great day! That is some good calling! I am lucky if I can hear anything more than 200 yards away!
  5. Soon enough I will get another dog! He is a beauty, looks like he is ready to pounce!
  6. It gives us hunters a chance to teach a kid about hunting with little presser from other hunters and allows that mentor to dedicate themselves to that hunter for the day. The facts have been stated many times why it's a great tool for kids to get involved. What is your objection to the youth hunt? Did someone stick you with a kid because they had no time to do it themselves? Or are you upset that other fathers are not taking kids out? Was the milk bad this morning, sounds like you are venting, just not sure why you are against this? Your 2nd and 3rd post did not really give an answer except that lazy fathers suck and this will not help them. It does help the good fathers and mentors and for me the fact that this might get some kids into hunting is well worth it and I tip my hat to the DEC for having such a program.
  7. Harry, Yea Rock, you know we are sitting on 4 million pounds of rocket fuel, one nuclear war head and a thing that has over 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder, kinda makes you feel good right? This movie has many good scenes, another I like but not considered "great" by most. The evaluation is pretty funny also, warning adult language.
  8. Kind of how I feel about deer, lol. Good luck!
  9. Wow that sounds like a great adventure! Congrats Kayden, looks like you have a great mentor! Way to go!
  10. Love when India calls and says they are from Microsoft and my computer is infected. After about the 5th time I got tired and acted like I was doing what they said but kept getting errors. Then I would ask them which computer was infected as I had a Windows XP, Vista, Window7, 8. They would usually say the XP machine is infected, O WAIT, sorry I forgot that computer is not online. Then I would get the hesitation and "its the Windows Vista computer." Was kind of fun messing with them after a bad day. I won so many Disney trips it is amazing. lol Once I hear congratulations I hang up. The Do Not Call list works. Steve D posted it above, I just checked my number and it was registered in 2003. Here is the link again. https://www.donotcall.gov/
  11. Some extra food, water. Flashlights, spotlights if fishing late. Charge the phone! Or have a charger with you. Check your wheel bearings if you trailer and grease them! Bearing buddies work if you use them often. Check trailer and boat lights, electronics. Spare prop?
  12. More proof that fanning is one of the most dangerous decoys to use, you might as well wear a deer suit with giant antlers in the Southern zone for opening day. Simply put any decoy that is in front of your face can cause you to get shot, putting one that looks like a turkey in front of you is simply idiotic and should be banned. It's like hiding behind the deer decoy so you can move closer to the deer, might work but your chances of getting shot are very high! Lawmakers should simply outlaw fanning, way to much danger involved! Please don't use this even if you think your private land has no turkey hunters, we all know about trespassing and how another hunter can all of a sudden hunt your land thinking he is the only one on it. Be safe!
  13. Shame, hope they are ok. Like stated above no reason for this, he did not identify his prey and shot at movement. Simply put that is just an irresponsible hunter who did not follow the safety code, did not identify his prey and simply shot at what he thought was a turkey without identification and shot placement.
  14. I find it funny how in area where you are not suppose to get lost I usually get stuck taking hours to get out. Dragging a deer out in the dark my buddy says "I have no clue where we are!" I said your joking right? He says no I am not kidding I am really lost right now! I explained that we only tracked for a max of 50 yards and where right next to the shot area! Only two hundred yards in max but between the dark and the drag he was clueless as to our location. Another 20 yards and we where at the original track and blood trail, he said I am glad you where here. Hardest drag he said he ever had, it was about 200 yards, lol. I said that was the easiest I ever had. Very experienced hunter just not very good at navigation especially in the dark. LI urban hunting. I was a few miles back by Wolf Lake in West Canada Wilderness area trying to get out and the compass was pointing the wrong direction, put a bit of scare in me as it was getting late. I was able to find the river I crossed a few hundred yards away and then found the compass working correct, one of the few times I have tested more than one compass and all 3 where wrong until I reached the river area. Only seen this one other time in the ADK, real scary when that never fail instrument is not working! Many times when wanting to get out of the woods the GPS has failed me, usually due to heavy canopy and thick fog or rain this is why I tend to use the GPS for marking locations and the compass for navigation. 4 miles back by Indian lake I was solo and trying to get out of some thick area, unable to get any satellite I used the compass to get out to a river but then had to hike a few hundred yards to the exit where I could cross the river, long day I probably did over 10 miles that day. Legs felt like rubber! Hunting LI Ottis Pike my buddy says the compass is not working and his phone is about to die! Found out later the magnets in the gloves he was wearing messed up the reading, worked ok when he connected it to a tree limb. Then he buys me the same pair, I said thanks??? Are you trying to get me in trouble I asked, lol. Lucky for me I am pretty good at navigation and don't get into trouble that often. Hunting by Wakely Mt. I had almost hit the peak and found some good sign, I still hunted the ridge all day but kind of got stuck trying to get out, this was before GPS in the 90's, luck for me we had radios. It was getting late and my buddy asked me to fire a round so I did. Then they said I was on the wrong side of the mountain! I said NO WAY, I did not go over the peak! After some discussion and debate I asked them to drive a few hundred yards back the opposite direction and I was able to see the truck and navigate out the last 300 yards. PS: Love the Silva clip on compass, my go to as I like the glow in the dark feature, stays clipped to my GPS lanyard. I keep a couple of spares in the day pack.
  15. Epic, very cool, congrats!!!
  16. I would have taken her to an elevated position like we have at Suffolk Archers and said try it again! This time bend at the waist and aim, most of her shots where wide left, don't think she was lining her peep up at all. At the time she was just starting archery and was a beginner. Good to show new archers how easy it is to miss when the presser is on and she actually still had another arrow in her quiver, after 5 misses I would have called it a day! Glad they posted it many would never show this! Good learning tool.
  17. Love it! That is awesome Wooly!
  18. Now I know why some people bring extra arrows, I always thought it was to shoot more deer. Good video on what not to do when hunting. Shows how practicing from where you actually hunt like in a tree stand is not the same as practicing on the ground! Glad the deer was ok, lol. (No hits at all in 5 arrows, lol.)
  19. Very cool, love seeing are youth get into archery! Nice grouping!!!
  20. Captions is: "I smell you!" lol
