So now that we need to make it easier for people to hunt because no has time to spend practicing why not just allow guns. No point in having a bow season anymore. I have to contend with people shooting the hell out of the woods anyway so why not let them shoot deer? Just eliminate seasons and make October 1st opening day for all weapons. Otherwise lets get a handgun season in bow season just to trample down the bow hunters some more, those dam elitist! lol

Three calibers for the world
NFA-ADK replied to Borngeechee's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I don't have a 223 yet but these 3 would be my choice. If I had to use my guns then I would swap the 223 with a 44 mag. -
Can you say zero tolerance? Can you really grasp what they are saying? No gun is safe, ever! All of mine must be defective because even when I want to kill something it does not always happen, guess I should turn them in because they miss sometimes. How about we get law enforcement to drop all guns, I mean if it is not safe in schools why should the general public be subjected to these devastating weapons of destruction? And if the safe act takes away those horrible guns why should the public be subjected to them by law enforcement if they are so bad? Can you say double standard? Ok for the Gov and the law to use these horrible weapons just as long as the public does not have them? Freedom never felt so restricted! Sorry for going off topic!

They are scary!

Looks great WNY Bowhunter!

Would be kind of hard to get a hunting program installed in our schools when they have a no gun policy with zero tolerance. That is about my extent with this issue, zero tolerance because our state is basically the anti hunting state. I am more than willing to mentor but to try and get an anti-hunting state to change is a dream. I am all for a hunting/survival course in schools but it faces to much resistance from the uneducated, LMAO!!!

A real Beauty! Congrats!

This is me after a nice 80 yard shot, I hit the X!!! So I had a BIG Grin! And someone mentioned puss so I will post my 2 new rescues, got one in January and one about 2 months ago after the big snow storm trapped the orange guy in our parking lot. Say hello to Cup Cake (I did not name her!) And Bucky! Bucky is the orange guy.

No hunting fatalities in 2015 season, DEC announces
NFA-ADK replied to Galliform's topic in General Hunting
That is Great news!!! Lets do it again this year! Great job guys and girls!!! -
Welcome aboard, those arrows are ok to start off with but like Core said you can get cheaper ones to start off with. Just stick with one type for consistency.

I feel exactly the same! For me it is all about the time spent. While I do not scout like I should(I love scout hunting and not knowing what might be in the area.). I spend many hours trying to perfect my shooting skills to get an ethical kill. Endless prepping for the season. This seems to be a quality many bow hunters have, not all but many. This is not something I typically see from gun hunters and the new crossbow hunters. Do I really care if full inclusion happens, no not really. Do I think it will have any effect on my hunting, not in the least. Crossbow hunters just like many gun hunters are lazy and will probably give up the sport once they realize that just because they are hunting early season does not mean deer will jump into your lap and that real work is needed to become successful. And finally they will realize the crossbow is not a gun and that practice is needed to become effective.

Welcome aboard! This is a great time to get some clothes, check any hunting store in your area for discounted items. Layering is best for cold temps, get a light weight parker and pants for early season and a larger set to go over your layers for colder days. Some good socks, gloves and boots are the only other thing you will need to start. All other clothes you can get as you progress in your hunting. Great guys and girls here don't be afraid to start a new post if you have more questions. WNY has some of the best deer hunting in NY, hope to see your success later this season with one of those brutes!

I would not hunt if it was doe only, just like last years first 2 weeks of bow. Bet Wisconsin will have the same issue! They will just go to another county. Flawed logic! Snipers will fix it? lmao Even though we had a bad year in sightings this past season the DEC will state that the population is out of control and try to kill as many doe as possible. What year did the DEC state: "No doe needed to be culled because we meet our goals"? It will never happen, ever. So in the interest of self preservation the DEC will always state : "The deer numbers are to high we need to cull more!"

Happy B-Day!!!

Simply put do not shoot explosives! Might seem like fun but that stuff can get out of control real quick. All it takes is one rock to fly your way!

So sorry Fasteddie Prayers sent.

To answer your question Doc it is low on my list of concerns. Would I attend a meeting, sure if it was within a reasonable drive, not 6 plus hours. Why because my opinion does not matter to them. Hundreds maybe even thousands of hunters have stated how low the deer population has been yet they ignore the people in the woods. So what's the point of driving X miles and wasting my time money and effort to have no affect! Will the DEC listen, yes but they do not act, except to defend why they are killing so many deer as they seem to think we are over populated. Is hunting for deer a concern, yes, new recruitment yes but apparently NYS would rather use snipers instead of hunters to keep deer in check, another fail on DEC. They failed on doe only for first 2 weeks in bow. They failed on keeping hunters happy, yes this is part of what they do otherwise antler restrictions, crossbow and early muzzleloader seasons would not be an issue. Maybe I just see things in a different light. DEC are just pawns of the political establishment and have to listen to them not hunters. And all they care about is keeping the population down and acting like they care by using antler restrictions and crossbows to appease the masses but that does not seem to be working as the masses care more about having a deer in the woods vs using a crossbow during bow season when no deer are present. Should I go and sit in front of a DEC office and protest how bad they are managing the deer? Sure if I want them following me every place I hunt, no thanks! I would be better off protesting the Police with a sign that says F the Police in front of the Police station! (Yea NO! I wont be doing that anytime soon either!) Zero tolerance yep that is about where I am right now with the DEC and how they manage deer. They suck at it! Unless you want no deer in your area like the insurance companies then they are great! Sorry for the rant, I was young I needed the money!

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you!

Arrested for Running over Dec Officer with ATV
NFA-ADK replied to Vince1's topic in General Chit Chat
Just put him back in time out, it works so well! Eventually they will all be in time out, called jail. Some of these comments make me laugh. You people act like you never did any wrong as a kid and no kid should ever make a mistake. Granted this was beyond a little mistake but he is still a kid! Let the one who is without any flaws chime in on how harsh the punishment should be! Speedy recovery to officer Travis McNamara! Thanks for protecting our lands. -
Yep, pretty much sums up what I am talking about. You know why no one goes to these meeting because we know it has no effect! What is the point in stating my opinion when the DEC already put in the plan with no regard to the actual population issues, as long as we keep the numbers down we are doing our job? Great work DEC. The politicians love you, no so much from hunters. Simply put the DEC is not doing a good job unless you are a politician or insurance company who only want deer culled. Or you are a Idiot that only wants snipers to kill deer at night so you do not have to see any actual deer killed. Then you think the DEC is great! Thanks Beachpeaz for reinforcing my point. Great points in both posts! I don't blame the DEC, most of the time their hands are tied. And yes we see no point in stating what needs to be done at these meetings because we know it will fall on deaf ears and tied hands! Most are starting to manage the deer how they want with regulating doe take and antler restrictions because the DEC does not care if you have no deer in your area as long as the population is down.

Asking a question to my question is not an answer. The DEC is controlled by the politicians and have no real control over the deer except to keep the numbers in check. If you really want to learn about deer join a QDM program they have much more information than any seminar from the DEC about their management plans that cover the entire state. But sure go learn about the 5 year and 7 year or 10 year programs that do nothing but keep the deer numbers in check, great info to help you in your quest to learn about how the DEC controls deer numbers ONLY. Answer me this question: What did you learn at this seminar that was the most valuable? I found out the last one that the DEC does not manage deer just the number that is allowed! So why would I go to another DEC seminar about how they do nothing but population control?
