Site Update , Security, and Moderation Changes
NFA-ADK replied to burmjohn's topic in Hunting New York Annoucements and News
Love this site but the political posts and bashing is a big turn off. Simply put if you do not have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself. Nothing wrong with disagreeing about some issues like doe season, crossbows or any other post but the attacks on each other are disheartening to say the least. A few things missing: Respect, we are all hunters show some respect regardless if the person is a first year hunter or has been in the game for over 70 years. No one likes to be trampled on regardless of insight or knowledge on the subject and we are all entitled to our opinions. If you disagree state why and be done with the post, no need to follow a post you disagree with just so you can rebut someone who might agree. Learn to let the little things go, I can say for sure someone will disagree with you on something, no point in getting upset over someone wrong on the internet we have millions of them and you can fix the ignorant or misinformed. Try to see things from others point of view. I had to step back from my "Big Buck" mentality to jump on the doe ban wagon, crossbows, youth hunts etc. but in the long run this site has changed my opinion on many things seeing it the way others do! Perspective!!! We all see different things in the woods so remember not all perspective will be the same, try to understand why others have a different view. If you really do not like the site then LEAVE!!! Staying on a site you do not like sounds self serving and egocentric to me! Keep up the good work! Hope the updates work out to all of our benefits. Thanks again to one of my favorite sites on the internet! Keep up the good work! -
Think you got the bow hand wrong because I am right dominant and have the bow in my left hand. Most right handed people shoot with the bow in the left hand. A good archery shop is the way to go, they will let you test some bows before you buy.

Results?

I do spot shoot but sometimes in 3D shoots we shoot 2 arrows per target. Field is 4 per target but I do not do that often.

Debated working at Suffolk Archers but it was to nice out for work! Headed out to Peconic River Sportsman's club and did the 3D shoot. Beat last weeks high score of 281 with a 288 two of my best scores! Took first place and a T-shirt home instead of a trophy. Nice club the shoot was short shots for the most part, not many shots past 35 yards. Next time I will do the longer shots. One thing is for sure THE TICKS ARE OUT IN FORCE!!!!!!!!!

Those stainless hold up very good when you are stuck in a tent for over a weeks with rain and snow at times. My other guns not so much! I try to clean and dry them out but rust is always a threat once humid weather comes into play.

I pretty much pack my day pack with everything and take it everywhere. Knife, extra compass, gutting gloves, extra gloves, socks and clothes in cold weather, GPS, compass and calls on lanyard, flashlights and batteries, drag rope, soda, water, Gatorade, trail mix, fat sandwich, chips, range finder, extra release, bandanas, TP, first aid kit and fire starters, hot seat. Only other thing is my phone when hunting LI and radio when I am not solo up in the ADK. I even take the back pack into the tree when on LI as I usually get stuck in the dark and sometimes have to track a blood trail, usually not mine. At its lightest I am probably around a few pounds, LI early bow state land still hunting. Up in the ADK I tend to bring the extra's as it is NFA area. No Fooling Around because every year someone dies up in that area. Then the pack is probably close to its maximum as extra bullets, batteries, clothes and food fill the voids. If I did not stop and post the extra clothes would not be needed but find a great spot miles back and it is basically impossible for me to leave the area, that extra gear, flashlights and warm clothes keep me on post when most others are back at camp. I can't say staying in deep woods late has always worked but one year I found a track of all tracks after getting situated for a hike out in the dark. The next day I caught up to him! Now I get to look at him every day and remember the one day that everything worked out right! Big deal for me as many times something went wrong!

After hunting so many years basically I only purchase a few things. Clothes, ammo, arrows, sometimes I like to try new calls rain gear always gets torn in thick brush so that is another thing always on my radar and boots, I really like good hiking boots. Think I have 6 just for hunting so I am good on boots for a few years. With the exception of really light clothes I pretty much have all I need or want. My biggest expense is arrows usually from hitting them with another arrow. Basically I have 2 things on my radar for this year, the extinguisher deer call, (I like how you can have one call to make multiple deer sounds.) and rubber boots for LI bow as one brute busted me last year. Rain gear and rain gloves are the only other thing I look for. Still have my MQ1 bow but purchased the Helium a couple years ago, have been thinking about the elite just because of how nice it shoots. If I can quit smoking the bow would be my bonus. New clothes are worth the expense, less layers and moister wicking is what keeps me in the woods all day. Bought a used, new GPS last year, good thing as the old one got water in the contact area and broke off, I was able to jam some metal in it for the ADK trip but this year I think I will need to use the new one. So for me its bullets, arrows, rubber boots, water proof gloves and possibly rain gear along with one call. Est. 600$ - 700$ depending on how much lead I sling down range. GPS radios are on the radar as the kids will be coming up to the ADK one of these years.

They do seem to be making a come back! Hunting in the Cold river in the back of Long Lake I had one try to run past me on a log until I jumped up, gave me a good scare. Ha, look at that thing running through the woods, O wait it is now on the log I am sitting on running at ME!!! Yikes! I think he was more shocked than I was!

Sampotter, did I mention how much I like your posts? Buddy, pal, lol . WOW very nice find!!! I would be all over that spot this year! Do you hunt that area and was this in NY? If so I hope you get him this year! Dam you put on some miles!!!

Making or digging forts, bb/pellet guns, riding bikes everywhere and making sure you where home for dinner or before dark. Sleeping over my best friends house because he could stay up later and his parents where much more lenient. (And they cursed!!!) Riding the "Path" our local BMX track on vacant land, lighting off fireworks. Hanging out at the local archery range of which I am a member now and going into the water towers, climbing the big radio tower and going around the bob wire to reach the top. Running from the cops, security etc. was always fun unless you got caught. Exploring the tunnels as we called them, most would call them sewers, running again from the cops, lol. Bottle rocket fights, roman candle fights, then thunder stick fights. Laser tag at night in the archery range, running from the cops again. Lucky for me I was fast as a kid! Beating up the local kids when they asked for a fight, I was little but had issues backing down. Summers and winters where spent in Pennsylvania or Maine hiking, fishing, bow, guns and snowmobiles. Admiring the deer that my uncle Mert would always get. Snakes, frogs, fish and squirrels where always at risk, birds did not stand a chance! Lucky for me I grew out of that stage real quick. Then girls came on the radar and all that stopped. HA! No wonder I am single, lmao. Fun post!

This is Cup Cake and the orange guy is what else? Bucky, lol. He is WILD! CC is about 2.5 now and Bucky is almost a year old. So once hunting season was done I adopted CC and found Bucky stuck in my parking lot at work crying for food every day. After Bucky escaped the vets office and hid in the ceiling for 3 days the vet finally got him and he now has a happy home! Thank you Dix Hills Animal hospital for fixing him and finally recapturing him, again!!!
