  1. That is where the big boys roam!
  2. Let the ticks do their work, eventually they will all contract lyme and wonder, WHAT DID WE DO WRONG. We call it east enders disease because most people who go outside and work on the east end of the Island get it.
  3. Yes but we are not hunting the woods per say we are in the back of these houses! No woods needed it just obstructs my shot! Most of these area's still have some small pieces of woods in the back yards but open area is great for bow. Most of those woods are state land and controlled by the DEC. We hunt them to but the urban area's hold more deer.
  4. I had a 14 ft and a 12 ft pythons. They are a amazing predator and are a good match for gators. Depending on which one is larger will usually depend on which one gets eaten. You would think the gator would win hands down but that is not always the case. They should be eliminated from Florida, they are dangerous and they get big, over 20 ft easy! Here is one you would think the gator would eat him with no problem, not a very large snake but the results are evident. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfYAj1k9uZM
  5. With 2 harsh winters, last winter was extreme, it is understandable that the deer harvest numbers are down. Combine that with a large mast crop dropping of acorns and beechnuts can and will cause deer to conserve energy in anticipation of the same event happening this year. (Harsh winter.) Simply put they are moving less to conserve energy and trying to fatten up as much as possible thinking this winter will mirror the last ones. Overthinking it maybe but if your survival depended on it I bet you would do the same if you where in their shoes and just made it through last winter. Simply put after breeding season was over the deer movement dropped big time and storing fat for the winter and conserving energy became priority number one. If you did not hunt before late November chances are you had a bad season. Many other factors in the equation but I feel the deer sense another harsh winter and storing fat reserve and conserving energy for the worst of times takes priority for them to survive. If the mast crop drop wasn't so large I believe we would have seen better movement. Warm day temps did not help daytime movement either. The real question is this. Do deer that experience harsh winters expect that as the norm and prep for it accordingly? For me the answer is apparently Yes. I would love to blame other hunters for taking to many deer, low participation, DEC, harsh winter kill, slob hunters, tree stand hunters, stalkers, mast crop and excessive food and even low hunter participation and lack of access to safe zones but simply put after the breeding season was over deer movement shut down during the day and the only thing that makes sense to me is the deer are prepping for another harsh winter and recovering from the rut. If you had a good year it was probably because you hunted before the rut completed in late November. If you disagree please explain why so many hunters saw so little movement during late November/ opening day southern zone. What is your explanation for the low movement/sightings and deer harvest that seems to persist. The data I am hearing is pretty overwhelming. If my theory is correct we should see the bow/early hunter season harvest the same as last year and the year before but gun and late season hunters would have a much lower harvest than previous years. Not sure if the DEC post the dates of harvest data but it would be interesting to see if this theory holds water.
  6. I agree to a point. I do not think it would have an effect of pushing all the deer out. Each deer is different and can react to the situation in different ways. Some doe might run for the hills, buck might stay close to cover hoping the dogs stay away and only move when pushed. Can some bucks leave the area sure they can. Can deer become accustom to people yes! We see it in urban settings. The question of them reacting to dogs is up for debate. I would think if the dogs are run often they would get use to them and not see them as a threat but it might take them a while to figure this out, they will evaluate each threat with how much energy they have to use to get away from that possible issue. Would I worry about this on my land, no. As long as it was done often I do believe the deer would realize that those dogs present little danger. You would be welcomed on my land as long as you did not start around opening day. If you could take down a few yotes you would be welcomed back every year! The benefit would help the deer more than harm IMO.
  7. Funny how easy a post can be misinterpreted! Maybe next time ask the question first if he is trying to shoot the hawk? Don't take anything personal we like to argue a lot!
  8. Would love to see the video! Click more options below the post to upload. Good luck!
  9. If you really think urban hunting is not possible you should look at the map of Suffolk County. Huntington my home town is now legal to hunt in! (We use to have a no discharge law!) Most of these culls with sharp shooters are done in open area's away from houses, not very effective for deer that stay in the urban settings. If you look at any of the Hamptons on the map you would see that urban hunting is alive and well. We have been doing it on LI for years. Simply put bow hunters are the only real long term cost effective solution to urban population issues.
  10. Yes they have been doing this in one of our parks for years, lol. It worked so well they had to open the season in my town to allow bow hunters back in! Because the people are still complaining about how high the population is! Snipers are not hunters and can not hunt in residential areas! So they can only kill deer in open area's away from houses. Again it has worked out so well the population has exploded and they HAD to open the deer season because so many complained about how the snipers are not working! Great fix! Bet the population gets worse. Like some have said let them deal with it. When it really gets crazy and beg for real help they will open the season back up to bow hunters. Not here to argue but to say snipers are the only and or best solution is delusional!
  11. I love antlers but to say that is the number one reason I hunt would be incorrect even as a trophy hunter. Many seasons I eat tag soup but if I tagged a 200 inch buck I would still hunt just as much. The guys who I know that only hunter for antlers are what many call poachers and will do ANYTHING to get those bones.
  12. The new norm! Population problem with deer, lets spend federal money instead of asking free bow hunters to do the job this way we do not have to actually see any deer culling. Then they will wonder why they still have population problems due to the fact that sharp shooters can not shoot in rural area's. Funny how we can build an area up and then say deer are over populated when we took over the land the deer use to be on! They are not over populated the people are just tired of getting lyme and demand the government help them out, lol. Next is baiting stations, birth control etc! Like this has not been done before! Next they will take away the first 2 weeks of bow and say you are responsible to cull all the deer with the worst weapon but we will let federal sharp shooters in at night with bait and lights and silencers shooting from trucks!
  13. Very nice! Enjoy and let us know how well it performs! Congrats!
  14. 3 months of trail cam pictures a full year of prep and this guy gets this brute his first day hunting! I need another beer!
  15. 4.5 is an old ADK buck! lol Congrats again!
  16. Very cool Sampotter! Thanks for sharing!!!
  17. Very cool story! Thanks for sharing! Some nice bucks in that pic for sure!
  18. When purchasing a PC the price usually reflects the processor. EX: All computers in the same price range usually have the same processor, it is the most expensive part of a PC. I would get 16 gigs of Ram a solid state hard drive with a standards SATA hard drive as a back up. Processor will go with price, if you check 4 different manufacturers they will all have the same processor at the same price range. In other words it does not matter what brand you purchase, pick one you like. Good luck!
  19. You where probably really close to a buck. Those tarsal glands stink! Good spot for a buck to bed and wait for passing doe, almost like hanging out at the local bar, lol.
  20. Great to have you aboard! Welcome! Great site with great people!
  21. Another LI brute, no way he is only 140 that must have been a different buck. He has to be at least in the high 150s. Urban brute for sure! Shame he goes to waste.
  22. I would have a nice new fishing boat! Hunting camp and house on the water would be nice! Just to think of the possibilities is fun. Better chance of getting hit by lighting, TWICE! Im in, why not. I will be happy to split it with several people and only get a few million. I figure about 8 would be ok for me, ahh to dream.
