It has been the .308 for years now......

Enjoy!!! The bear activity on our side of Route 8 has been incredible this year and every week there are tracks right by the camp. Also have seen lots of turkey and poults running around. It has been very dry up until a week ago and I'm glad the trout streams received some water. Stay well.....

Handgun holsters. Who uses what?
Salmon_Run replied to Bionic's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
The thing I like most about the chest holster is that when you wear it, it's always available but clearly "out of the way" of anything I do. I can wear chest or hip waders and pack with straps easily. It also supports the weapon very well and retains the weapon while allowing quick access if needed. -
Too funny, I've often hunted the 8M area and that was scouting in the Southern Tier.....I've gone days without seeing deer in the North country but love the solitude involved. I've always said I go up North to hunt and South to harvest venison.....

Handgun holsters. Who uses what?

Mine is not a "Kenai" but from 2AHolster, I love the kydex and they are custom made for each make, model and barrel length. I had one made for my retired "duty" weapon of a Ruger Security Six and I carry that routinely. I thought of the leather and didn't like the idea of upkeep, odor retention and maintenance involved. The chest style can be made barrel up, horizontal or barrel down according to your preference. Mine is constructed so I can utilize it in any configuration. Your money will be well spent !!!! -

Custom made by Tom at "2AHolster".... Best service and made within 3-5 days from him...Tom's gear specializes towards military and law enforcement and is well made and rugged... Highly recommended and best as I carry a pack, wear hip or chest waders and this keeps my weapon secure and handy. Our camp in Hamilton County is very bear populated and some years they get a little too bold when food is scares. My wife kayaks, hikes and fishes as well and uses one also for a Smith & Wesson shield. -
Well up north gang, here we are with a heat wave again and it's time to scout some early bear and deer sign in the deep woods. I usually like to do some summer brook trout fishing and tie that into a scouting trip this time of year. Who's been out scouting yet ?

This is a phenomenal holster around camp, backpacking, fishing and trapping.... -
We framed with rough cut native pine and used 2x6 tongue and grove for loft floor and ceiling. The sidewalls are 12' tall so there is a loft upstairs that allows walking almost to the sidewall and the steep roof sheds snow very well. Its 12' x 24' and there is plenty of room for our family of five (3 teens) and a dog or two.....the hardest part was every bag of cement, timber and supply was brought in over a UTV trail or on foot.... We've done some "upgrades" and moved the rear door and added a roof over the front stairs and stained the outside

We built this ourselves 3 years ago and every thing came in on the UTV, propane fridge, lights and a wood stove for heat.

I have a Big Jon dual planer mast (with seat base) and two planer boards for sale. The seat base is very convenient for removal and storage. It locks in place of the front boat seat. I am firm at $ 250.00 and live in the 12801 area for local pick up. The mast is too large to ship conveniently. PM with any interest and all item are in great condition.

Check out some of the local facebook "garage sale" sites also. I just had a big garage sale of gear I no longer used and my wife posted the stuff there and people flocked here to grab it up. So I know guys look at those sites also for gear. Good luck !!!

when do you start getting serious with trailcams?
Salmon_Run replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
The winter conditions are tough where I am, so I put them out about now until January..... -
I am looking for information for drift boat access on the West Canada Creek below Trenton Falls with a possible take out point near Poland. Does anyone know if there is access for a drift boat trailer to drop and take out? I would imagine the water level would have to be around 450 cf or better to drift. Any possible help greatly appreciated....

I certainly do remember JARTS; they were first manufactured in my home town. They were in business for years until the lawsuits filed against them closed them down.... There was a set at our old camp for years and they were used every summer....

Right now there are numerous tracts of land that have been sold to the Adirondack Nature Conservatory and given to the state that are being reclassified and camps have to be removed. I believe most of these were former long term leases from Finch & Pruyn Paper Company..... Macintyre West (Santanoni Club) Gooley Club (Essex chain) Sad..............

Welcome aboard here and best of luck. My choice is my Kimber in .308 (accurate and ammo availability)

I'd start scouting in July and August for bear sign, it is really tough in the deep woods unless you can identify travel corridors. A few years back I found an old abandoned farm on state land and the apple trees for whatever reason were full of fruit and the bears were crazy about that. Last year the trees were barren and the choke cherry trees were bearing fruit and they were climbing the trees and stripping the fruit off. I'm in Hamilton County and there is a good sustained population, they are not super big bears but they can be located. I have several trail cam pictures posted on here. https://huntingny.com/forums/topic/39685-been-out-scouting/ To answer you question, I have never used any call but it sound intriguing to try....

I utilize my retired duty weapon of a Ruger "security six" .357 with a chest holster as my revolver of choice. I have .40, .45 and a 9mm pistols but like the weight of the revolver and choices of ammo available for purchase. There are lots of round choices and even # 4 shot on the market if one chooses. I carry it trapping and fishing with the chest holster and it's never in the way of pack or belt straps and readily available if needed. Just my .02 cents worth.....

Sad news for sure, summer arrived early as there was a drowning on Lake George last week. A guy went out in a rental kayak and either wasn't wearing or wasn't wearing correctly his PFD and died.... The water temps are still only in the low 50's and one's chance is slim when you enter the water. Be safe and be smart !!!! I drift boat regularly in the Salmon, Delaware and others and it amazes me the number who are on the white water with no PFD in some cold conditions.....

Last weekend they were bad but by Monday they had lessened some what. The woods are dry and that keeps their numbers lower...

All right I tried to follow the action and get some tax free money for coffee. I dressed in a cut off t-shirt, daisy dukes and stood at the end of my driveway with a cardboard sign and tin cup. My sign read "needy old guy, loose change and hugs accepted" No one stopped to donate, but a lot of them must have been trying to impress me by how fast their cars could accelerated away. Really odd that after I went inside I've never seen so many patrol cars on my neighborhood...

Well deserved congrats! I'm a, retired, 32 year veteran of law enforcement, relax and get enjoying the stuff you've always missed out on. I surely miss a few clowns, but the the circus!!! I only missed the action on the day I packed up the department equipment as I sat on the edge of my bed alone crying like hell. It is an adjustment, but enjoy your friends and family.... Stay well and congrats!!!!!
