  1. A Bull will exhibit similar behavior when there is other Bulls around, pawing, sparring with trees and making vocal sounds they refer to as growling, basically chest thumping telling all within earshot he is bad. Al
  2. My philosophy of Trumps boisterous personality and demeaner is quite simple, "DOES IT ACTUALLY AFFECT MY LIFE IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY?" NO IT DOES NOT!!! Supreme Court and Federal Judges, Lower Taxes, Pro Gun-Hunting, Fishing and Trapping, Pro Traditional Ammunition, Secure Borders and Legal Immigration, Pro Police, Law and Order, pro Strong Military to name a few are important to my way of life so it is very easy for me to vote Trump and against Democrats whose party is against most of the above and a lot more!!. For me and how I live my life this election between Trump's personality and the Democrat's agenda is not even debatable! Al
  3. I am not voting in a Mr Congeniality Contest, I vote for a platform and policy that support my lifestyle!!! Al
  4. I have shot my share over the years and the one thing I have found if you place your shot correctly and are using a decent bullet from any manufacturer matched to the game you are hunting, two holes or one hole, the animals do not go far. Al
  5. To be honest I do not know for sure percentage wise, I do know he recovered a few on the off side and said they had the typical perfect Nosler mushroom. I have to say this two holes business is pretty new to me, I never paid a whole lot of attention to this notion as to something that was necessary. I always went by what happened when the shot took place, when the animal drops where it stands or runs a few yards and keels over two holes never entered my mind. Al
  6. My brother uses a Browning BLR chambered in 243, years ago I loaded up a bunch of Nosler 95 grain Partitions for him, he has taken well over 20 Deer with those loads. He said they pretty much drop in their tracks and loves their performance. Al
  7. If you have decent vision once you get the hang of it you can shoot some pretty tight groups using a peep type sight. Things start going south as our eyes age and the sight picture is not as clear when we had young eyes. Glasses definitely will help and I have found single the vision type works best for sight picture, bifocals do not work well for me causing a double vision effect. What has worked best for me is what is called the center hold, below are a couple of illustrations. One difference I use and works well for me is a very fine front bead or blade that covers very little of what I am shooting at. A real fine bead will work better for me when there is longer ranges. Another thing different from the illustrations is most of my front sights have just a blade with no military style side protection. Another thing to consider is aperture size (the opening of your peep) target shooting a small hole allows for a bit tighter groups but causes problems with field of view and light in darker conditions. For hunting I like what most call a ghost ring or I just take out the peep's insert for a large peep to look through. I can still shoot tight groups and have a good field of view. Back when I was younger and could see better I shot some pretty good groups with my Winchester 52 using target peep sights, below is a target showing what they are capable of with some practice. I now have a Redfield 20X target scope mounted on that rifle and do not shoot groups significantly better. If your firearm groups well with the ammo or loads you are firing sighting with a scope it should group well with a peep as long as you have decent vision and practice. Al
  8. Picked this one up 35 years ago and have been going through it again refreshing the old brain on a lot of forgotten facts.
  9. As I stated above Kingston Armory company folded a couple of years ago, as far as I know the M14 model never made it into production and none were sold. I love my Garand, but it took a lot of work to get it working right, it is one of my most fun rifles and I shoot it all the time. I removed the Jard trigger and installed a complete Volquartsen trigger assembly this past summer. Al
  10. So yesterday afternoon I went out with the muzzleloader and once I got in the woods I was trying to figure the wind directions to plot my strategy. Observing the leaves on trees gave me a pretty good idea but what sealed the deal was as I was standing there looking around I took off my hat and my warm shaved bald head immediately let me know the wind direction accurately. Been shaving the old coconut since early summer and have become a huge fan and discovered another of many advantages of a shaved head. No Deer, just saw a few Squirrels Al
  11. A note on the performance and effectiveness of Hornady XTPs, I have taken around a dozen or so Deer with them in 357 and 44 calibers. They have been fired out of handguns, rifles and muzzleloaders at pretty much similar velocities and only one Deer had to be shot twice from a Colt Python 357 revolver, all others dropped in their tracks or stumbled around for up to 25 or 30 yards before going down. I have nothing but the highest regard for their effectiveness. Just saying do your job and they will do theirs.
  12. Can't wait to see how your primitive arrows turn out, I am going to try to do something similar but am going to cheat big time lol as I do not have the skill to do everything from scratch. I purchased some half way decent Turkey fletched primitive style wood arrows and some knapped arrowheads, will remove the field points and cut some slots and hopefully attach the points solidly myself. Doubt that I will ever actually hunt with them but when I have some free time I like puttering around doing stuff like that.
  13. Hunting in Europe and Britain have been getting flushed down the toilet for years, between the animal rights groups and anti gun laws banning everything only the people of position and wealth can still hunt the average Joe can only read about hunting. I have acquaintances in the hunting dog world over there and all hunting with dogs in England and Wales was banned in 2005, they can still hunt Rats and Rabbits which are considered vermin they get to use sticks and clubs as owning a firearm is almost impossible. Kind of reminds me of what has been going on in California, Thanks to the Animal Rights groups and Democrat rule Hunting with Dogs has been banned on many species, restrictive gun and ammunition regulation, huge drop off in hunting participation because of it. Al
  14. That is the whole reason for jerking your chain, they know that many will just give up and toss in the towel, that is what they want. Same deal for handgun permits, they make the applicant jump through as many hoops as they can, the process so long and tedious most folks do not want to bother. Al
  15. https://www.midwayusa.com/ they will ship. Al
  16. I can not help you to find a good hunting area for Rabbits but I can say hunting them with archery equipment is a panic. I used to do it a lot years ago using my Beagles to bring them around for a shot. You do not have time to be messing around with sights and releases because you are snap shooting most of the time and you have to be quick. Instinctive shooting using a glove with a low poundage recurve, low cost arrows {You will be losing some} and a bludgeon type head will do the job. I still have a few of the heads I used pictured below, a solid torso hit with one of those heads easily will kill a Rabbit. I did not kill a whole lot but I sure had fun trying. Al
  17. From my perspective the performance of the pictured bullet was perfect and exactly what I look for, all malarkey aside a properly placed bullet that performs like the one above when placed where it is supposed to go will result in a quick kill, there will be little to no tracking. Al
  18. When hunting Deer or Varmints what the wind is doing as far as strength and direction always determines my strategy for that days hunt be it still hunting or stands which for me is sitting or standing with my back to a tree. I want it in my face if at all possible, a crosswind at minimum. Al
  19. For those who do not reload I would seriously consider getting into it. It does not take a lot of money to equip yourself with good quality equipment. Do not be afraid to buy used, it is almost impossible to wear presses and dies out. Ebay is your friend as there is plenty of good used everything at a good savings. Don't wait, be prepared. Al
  20. The calibers you listed are both great mild recoiling cartridges but the 257 Roberts may be a bit hard to find. Almost all of the common Deer cartridges are tolerable recoil wise, ammunition companies also load light kicking ammo especially for anyone recoil shy. The 7mm 08 and the 6.5 Creedmoor are a couple of more chamberings that warrant consideration. Sounds like a good excuse to hit the Gun Shops in your area and look over and handle what is available with hopefully good advice from the shop owners. Buy something of good quality and a model he likes because it is something that will last him a lifetime and create many memories through many hunting seasons. Al
  21. I think you need a brush up on reading comprehension "Oh Superior One" because that is not what I read in that post. The truth is clear to see who endangers gun rights, it is Democrats and their clear agenda especially "BETO" and non hunting trolls like yourself!! Al
  22. Does anyone remember Watergate? A non stop news scandal that brought down a President and all the men around him, books and movies were made about it. The scale of what the Democrats did to Trump makes the great Watergate scandal look like "child's play", a lot of heads should roll and plenty of prison time dealt. Where is the news coverage?
  23. So below is one of the many tactics the Democrats are trying to use. Hold gun manufacturers accountable. In 2005, then-Senator Biden voted against the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, but gun manufacturers successfully lobbied Congress to secure its passage. This law protects these manufacturers from being held civilly liable for their products – a protection granted to no other industry. Biden will prioritize repealing this protection. Remington has been one company feeling the wrath for years and is in trouble big time from the constant lawsuits. The Sandy Hook lawsuit just got thrown out again but the gun grabbers are looking to reverse the judge's decision and deliver a knockout blow to Remington. ======================================================================== The Gun Grabbing Democrat's argument in a nutshell, "Somehow when Remington Arms delivered the Bushmaster rifle to the wholesaler it engaged in “negligent entrustment.” Remington knew, or should have known, that it might be used unlawfully". The new argument is so thin that emotion, sensationalism, and a very loose use of the facts are being used in the appeal in an attempt to hide it: Even crazy Bernie Sanders said If somebody has a gun and it falls into the hands of a murderer, and that murderer kills somebody with the gun, do you hold the gun manufacturer responsible? Not any more than you would hold a hammer company responsible if somebody beats somebody [else] over the head with a hammer. Al
  24. If you are serious about 220 longevity would you be willing to loan the rifle? I'd be more than happy to put it through it's paces. =============================================================== The old Ruger 77 220 Swift is my prized possession and favorite rifle and is not going anywhere. Has proven her worth and accuracy longevity to me long ago having fired several thousand handloaded rounds on both the bench and in the field on Woodchucks and Crows. Below are a few groups I mentioned above fired not too long ago, a Crow sitting on a fence post 400 yards away would still not be safe from the old girl. Al
