  1. I've never used a dripper. I will hit all my stands around 1st week in september and clear a mock scrape with my boot and pee in it before i leave. ive had mixed results with this, some are left untouched, others ive seen use. Never got into the scents that much, as i was never really sure if it would help or hurt.
  2. Had a great summer fishing lake O. Got 90% of my scouting done in February and March, and have checked up on things the last week or two. To say that im excited for bow to open would be the understatement of the century. Cant wait to get in a tree. How is everyone elses preseason coming?
  3. Definitley a great year for apples. The crab apple trees actually look and taste like a regualr apple should.
  4. id say 4.5. Hes definitley got a chest on him like a pitbull
  5. I've always figured that aside from their sense of smell, their ears were there 2nd best line of defense. I've seen bucks respond to calls from a long way out, further than i think most humans would here. I had a small buck last year come into a rattle and he literally ran right to the base of my tree. I dont know a human who could pinpoint a noise to a 5 foot area from over 100 yards away. I also agree with their eyes being the weakest, but i also think they trust their eyes 2nd to their nose. You can get away with a little noise it they dont pick you off. If a deer sees you and realizes your a human, its generally out of there, but if it heres a single noise and cant pin in to you you may still get a crack at him.
  6. Get shooting your bow and get out there. Like you said, you know there are big deer in your woods, and if you've hunted the property for a few years, you probably know more than you think you do in terms of scouting. If your a serious enough hunter to be on this site, your probably the type who learns a lttle more about his deer everytime in the woods. . I wouldnt fret over the trailcams, plenty of big bucks were killed before they were invented, just get out and hunt! Goodluck bud
  7. either shoot em opening day of gun, or buy a bow and start practicing. I moved to bow a few years back because the deer by me go almost nocturnal once gun opens. I had opening monring to get them, and then it was almost impossible until muzzleloader season started up. Way more oppertunities with a bow
  8. My biggest is one of these. All taken the last 5 years With how my scouting has gone this year, i will hopefully well surpass my biggest this season, as ive really been working on scouting specifically for mature buck sign instead of deer sign
  9. I would say the tree stand helps the situation. It gets you shooting down, and you dont have to worry about the shoulder blade as much as your coming in basically on top of it. If you miss high and hit the spine the deer isnt going anywhere. From the ground, you really have to thread the needle to get penetration. From the air things open up, at least thats my take on it
  10. im toying with the idea of doing the same thing this year. Bow all gun season while im on morning sits, and toting the rifle when i push for the family and friends in the afternoon. I feel like the key to this going well is to arrow a nice buck during bow season, taking the pressure off of wanting to fill a freezer/get my buck during gun season. At this point, if i get my buck during bow, ill keep the bow on stand during gun season. If im holding all my tags come gun season, the '06 is coming up the tree with me.
  11. This guy went 50 yards, arrow lodged in the opposite side shoulder. 7 yard shot out of a climber. Also with a gun, quartering to or coming straight at you is a no brainer. Ive shot 3 straight on over the last 3-4 years and they all drop right in their tracks
  12. i had a similar issue with my hoyt, though i thought mine was coming off the top cam. turns out it was the limb pockets. pro shop lubed everything up and its nice and quiet on the draw even in the cold
  13. You know deer season is around the corner when.... you've packed and re packled your hunting backpack at least 10 times with 3 trips to the store to pick up something you cant live with out.
  14. If rational thoughts were required in Albany, we would be without a single politician.
  15. I never said they all stayed there, i said the use the property as its the only route between their primary food source and bedding areas
  16. face to face or phone is the way to go. i just got sole permission yesterday to hunt a 14 acre piece close to my office via a phone call. The best trick i've learned is to do your homework. the internet is a powerful tool, once i figured out the property i wanted to hunt i found out who owned it and googled the guy. Through some asking around it turns out he worked with my father in law 35 years ago. I started my phone call with that i was so and so's son in law and got to talking. Turns out hes doing some remodeling on a home and i offered my pickup to move stuff for him, as well as offering some venison. A quick google search and finding a common connection got me sole bow hunting rights to a piece of land that holds a 130" 8 point, a very respectable 10 point, and a half dozen basket racked bucks.
  17. ill say this as a hoyt guy.. I've never seen anyone shoot an Elite, and not be absolutely in love with it.
  18. goodluck with that. The stores by me are bone dry.
  19. maybe a bear trap in the leaves in front of the door.
  20. my bow is set at 65#'s on 70# limbs. i could easily pull 80(im not a small dude) but i dont see the need for more poundage. 65 is nice and easy to pull, even at funny angles/sitting/etc
  21. i rattled one in last year that came right to my tree from 3-400 yards. i mean on a string right to the base of my tree. It can definitley work during bow season, but leave them at home once gun season opens.
