  1. It all depends on the land. if its 5 acres between corn fields and thick pines on the other 5 would be all you need. however if its 5 in the middle of wide open nothing i think you'd be disappointed.
  2. I cant tell you many times ive had this happen. You can neutralize a shifting wind in gun season, but forget about it with a bow
  3. i usually just text my other buddies in their stands and talk about how little is going on that morning
  4. A small private piece i hunt in Warners, just outside Camillus
  5. Well got my bow buck last night in 15-20mph winds. I setup on a funnel in between two thickets at about 3:45 to get the last hour in. There is an absolute giant on the property, but i havent seen him since August, also 2-3 decent bucks(2.5 yr olds), and a small 4 point that i've let walk a few times already. . Around 4:30 this bucks pops out of the thicket to my left nose to the ground and gives me a 40 yard broadside shot. I ended up spining him, and literally raced out of my climber to run up and put a finishing shot on him. I felt a little bad for the shot, but i put him out as quick as possible. He's not the P&Y buck that i was hoping for this year, but im a very happy hunter anyways.
  6. im strongly considering it this year. At least for morning sits, than grab the '06 in the afternoon while doing drives for the old guys
  7. how often are you actually holding your bow? 10 minutes a day when the deer come thru?
  8. x2 on what papist said, but ive never been really good at repairing neoprene, and i have trouble trusting it steelhead fishing in February, as a leak will ruin your day in 35 degree water. On an unrelated note, are the oneida eyes close to shore yet?
  9. Definitley a banner year, though in the lean years the deer stick to crop fields and are more easily patternable. With food literally all over the place it was tough this season to pin them down to a specific area
  10. it alot easier to do i feel later in the season when the days are shorter. i can go from sunup to 2-3pm no problem, but after that its tough
  11. nothing cooking in CNY for me. Alot of "opening day only" hunters are going to get real lucky this year
  12. i shot rages for a little while, until i found a pack of NAP killzones. same design as a rage but greatly improved. no o ring, no shock collar. The farthest ive had a deer run after hit this year was 60 yards

    No scrapes

I took some time yesterday afternoon in the heavy windsto do a quick walk through through 2 ridges ive been hunting. Not a single scrape anywhere, and these are places that routinely have a half dozen or so along one trail. I have to think they will be in there soon, so im juts going to keep at it, and bank on the fact all the deer didnt move out on me.
  14. i agree, been waiting all year for this kind of weather.
  15. if you gave him 5 hours without jumping him, hes either dead in the thick shit, or alive. id go thorugh that with a fine tooth comb, i've seen them crawl right into the thick stuff and die right there
  16. im pumped. ill prolly sit it out in the rain saturday too
  17. nice shooting. cant wait for the pics
