  1. My gun likes a 150gr better than a 165 or a 180.. When i started putting the gun together i shot groups with all 3. the 150's were clovered at 100 yards off of a bench. the 165's and 180's were about a 3-4 inch group each.. It's weird, but some guns flat out shoot a certain grain bullet better than others.
  2. ok so this is weird.. I was going through pics of last year.. Here is a spike i took late last season.. Different bullet, same monster entry hole.. Leads me to think this wasn't the bullet or brush, but maybe some bounce back off of the bone?
  3. 45# draw id stick with a solid fixed head.. Your asking for trouble with a big mech
  4. yea.. it was 50 or so degrees here Saturday, i took her straight to the butcher.. Ill be seeing him later this week, and plan on asking him what he found in there... As for the angle, i shot her at like a 45 degree quartering to me
  5. This is a very good point..The deer was in very thick small saplings at the shot.. definitely could have hit a sapling and fragged the bullet.. giving it the close range birdshot looking hole
  6. Yea that's my 760.. wouldn't trade it for any gun in the world. Most accurate gun ive ever owned. There was no exit hole on this one. I shot quartering to me, and the bullet went through and hit the far shoulder and blew it to pieces. The whole front right leg was just held together by skin, but the bullet never came out.. Funny thing is, the deer didnt go down right away. it kept limping away over the little knoll i shot it on. I got up immediately and started towards it, hoping to finish her before she got too far in the rain, and found her dead 15 yards away.
  7. I dont normally post doe kills on here, but i was very impressed with my new bullets this season.. Ive been shooting Nosler ballistic tip 150gr 30-06 bullets for years with great results. This year, i bought a box of Barnes TTSX in 150gr as well. The picture shows the entry hole on a doe at 80 yards. Needless to say, she didnt go very far

  9. anything inside fences is NOT hunting.. its sport shooting of live stock.
  10. 35-45 this weekend by me.. thank god those 7 day forecasts are so innnacurate
  11. G man, just curious.. what 50 cal pistol do you have? i was looking at the optima one.. only 300 bucks, and id love to have a 2nd shot during ml season.
  12. i may try to get out this afternoon with the bow, after what is for today 30 degree temps in syr.. This weekend going to do some 2 man pushes with a buddy and hopefully we can bump a few to each other and fill those dmp's ive been holding all season
  13. Well that oughta kill deer movement. time to go in and get em up
  14. I've never been checked hunting, though ive ran into several DEC officers, they never checked me. I have been checked on Onieda Lake, walleye fishing both in summer and ice, by officer Richard Head.
  15. we used to build all of our treestands from pressure treated wood. problem is, with todays ladder stands so cheap, its easier to buy a metal one that wont rot and customize that, than it is to drop all that coin on treated lumber
  16. lotta thick cover and lots of rubs... sounds like his core bedding area might be very close to your core bedding area
