  1. I would love to try this one day. Seems like a real art. Maybe when I'm up at camp and call it my home i'll try it out. For now I'll watch and learn. Thanks
  2. Years ago they would have a deer check at the bridges and on Rt 17. Haven't seen any of this in years. I had a deer hanging at camp on state land and a dec officer came in and checked. He was straight and to the point. I had something missing on the tag, he told me it should be filled in which I did and he was on his way. The last time I transported deer home to long island was back in 2008, that is what we looked like. Pulled into a gas station at Windsor and had two troopers pull in right next to us. They didn't even look at the deer or tags.
  3. This thread needs a Swhacker through it!!
  4. Golden estrous seems to work for me.
  5. That last full moon hunters moon, I was in all day and saw no mid day action. Earliest was 3 pm.
  6. I'm in all day especially if its calm and cold out. Bring a thermo of coffee and some grub and I'm good to go. I did 2 all day sits in the bow stand this year and will do all day sits on the first two days of gun. My body feels all contorted after an all day sit but its worth it.
  7. Those of you that can bow hunt this coming week, you nailed it! Weather looks great all week long right to the opener!!!!
  8. Do my own grunt calls they work just fine.
  9. I have an area we call the swail. It is about 5 acres and is mostly over grown field. It is surrounded by thick bedding areas on all sides. We have a small clover plot and a mowed trail across it. I have decided that after watching for a couple of years these deer really like the mowed trail. This year I will start mowing the whole thing to keep it real green and tender for them. I'll see how it works out without doing the clearing, liming and planting.
  10. HBB you know who my buddy is in 8s, he has been out for the last few days and has seen deer but no chasing yet.
  11. I would take both shots.
  12. Could it be that opening of gun will be at the height of the rut??
  13. That arrow is angling forward. Entry looks to be right in the muscle region of the jaw. I would think the lower jaw would be out of place or hanging down??? If true hope the animal gets some help.
  14. My daughter texted me last Friday morning (before the hunt) when we had all that wind. She said, "Dad hunt smart" that was all I needed to stay out of the tree stand during the real windy periods.
  15. Only Indians can do it that way........they shoot instinctively! lol (but true) You gave it a good try, sheet happens....
  16. I'm just amazed that didn't break off. That deer had to run through the woods????
  17. Water builds up in this area and rusts them out. Bring them in this year for sure.
  18. If you can't control it from freezing at night and getting above 40 degrees during the day I would go no longer than 2 days.
  19. Folks, Was talking with a friend and he knows I have a few gorilla tree stands. He told me the cables that run down to the base of the stand can rust out if the plastic coating breaks down. This is happening to stands 3 years and older. Thought it was a good idea to post and alert everyone to check out the plastic coating on the cables. Told me the area to look at is at the bottom where the cable makes an eye and is crimped. This is the area a bolt and a large washer go through to hold it all together. Be safe, FL
  20. No wonder I'm not seeing deer, I wash with that soap!!! lol
  21. See trainers all the time in NYC. They don't want the dog distracted with the petting. Same goes for the bomb sniffing dogs at our building. They are out there in full gear just like a blind person would be.
