  1. my chevy but before that for years on a hitch haul, pretty handy little thing
  2. well i bring them home and gut them in the garage, I can take my time, It puts me on the ground in my hunting area for a shorter period of time, Im not taking clothes off so i dont get them bloody and scenting everything up, Now that i have a deer cart dragging a deer isnt a real big work out and to me it does seem to make a difference in the way the deer act on my lease,
  3. During bow season i always bring the deer home and gut it, During gun i do the same thing if its on my lease, if its somewhere else i do what the owner does,
  4. Vitamin D is a good place to start, I used to get cramps so bad i would be doubled over in pain went to the doc's and after a bunch of blood work they found i was lacking vitamin D in my system So now i take 1000 ui a day and havent had any really bad cramps in years,
  5. My dog comes from one of PPT's Studs Peaks Tough Gun SR im in the process of having Daisy qualified medically to breed with PPT'S Stud Captain, He just obtained his SH this past weekend, The quality of animals that come from them is hard to find elsewhere,
  6. Isnt really much of a decision really go with the labs, Id start by looking ar bloodlines and seeing if there are any JH,Sh,MH,NMH in the family line, If there isnt it really doesnt mean alot As most labs are natural retrievers, The show winning side isnt much of an interest to me as is the hunting side,Then if you dont have the time or the know how to train a pup and your looking for a great dog with a great personality id send it out to train, There are several places in New York that i can think of, In my opinon Peaks Performance out of Holland New York is one of the best, Renee and her mother do a grewat job the dogs dont become robots and you will never regret the decision, Most likely you will never lose a bird either, If you need help they normaly have a great line on pregnant or females with litters that they can help you with, If you want the number pm and ill give it you, here is a link to check out their site and it says puppies ready mid summer. http://www.peakperformancetraining.info/
  7. Really the tests that i witnessed were very bias so what you say makes no sense, never mind the fact that ive never run my dog in one and if i did she would get her senior hunter with out a problem, I thought about the going through the process until i went to an event and watched, i was really surprised to see how bias it was, Seemed to me that the judges were letting errors through and nailing beginners and people that were not part of their click, Standard or not a judge is a judge and its very easy for them to look the other way for some and not others, I had my dog trained by in my opinion the best retriever trainer in the state, Now i have run Daisy in hunt challenges those are a good time and are geared more toward real hunting situations. Those are fun and not as bias and the judges seem fair and straight forward, Im sorry that you have a different view than i do, but i know this season when i have a goose go down just out of sight or in a woodlot my dog will retrieve it and thats all that really matters, If i have to cast her to it then so be it, But ive never lost a bird with her and i know we will have many more great seasons together,
  8. I understand what your saying and yes there are fair and unfair, Good and bad, Just like with all things, Now that my results are back and i was surprised but she was graded excellent, I will be having her bred with a wonderful chocolate lab, Again he is a proven retriever and is what im looking for when it comes to a hunting companion,
  9. The Hunt tests are fun and expensive, Honestly it also seems to be a very clicky event, The who you know comes into play more than how your dog actually runs, Ive seen it on more than one occasion, Ive seen dogs win when there was better dogs that ran better,In the field being judged by the same judge on the same day, , But that was in waterfowl retrieving tests, I can imagine that Upland bird hunting really wouldnt be much different, I know that what matters in the circles im in these days, What matters the most is hunting with the dog and seeing how the dog works in real world hunting conditions, Im waiting for the OFA results to come back now on my 2 1/2 year old Black lab now so i can breed her, There is a waiting list on her pups already and she isnt even bred, After going to these events and seeing the politics ive decided i was staying away from the competition side of things with her, Even though her parents have both earned national and senior hunt, ribbons,
  10. ive had luck with highlighting the link and pasting it in the comment area
  11. I live, work and hunt around the depot, Ive seen the holes people cut in the fences and ive seen deer jump the fences, As far as large populations outside the depot thats untrue, Yes a few deer escape every year and end up getting killed, The depot also has a large turkey, coyote, population and could produce some of the best lottery based hunting you could ever hope for, If run properly and wasnt abused by the people in charge, It very well could bring enough revenue yearly to maintain the fences and run the property under a well planned game management system, Not to mention it could be used for eco tourism, Atv clubs, the possibilities are endless on how this property not only could support its self , provide jobs and be a boost to our local economy, i myself am willing to pay to go and take pictures and look for shed antlers, Some of the biggest deer you will ever see are inside that fence, If they set it up similiar to a state park entrance fee, The county getting what isnt needed to run the facility they could be happy with it, JMHO
  12. not at the time being but i can hunt that area,
  13. I make jerky or slice it thin and bread it then fry it in a little oil, CUbe it up and wrap it in bacon then throw it on the grill, The fields that im hunting are owned by One of my good friends So it doesnt cost any money to hunt, Im not a guide by any means I just love watching my dog do her job and she is good at it,
  14. Im lucky to live a part of the state where there are birds year round, This is my second season hunting geese and honestly dont know why i havent for the past 18 years,
  15. Just wondering how every body else is doing this year, Ive been out twice and shot our limit both days,
  16. I dont care what or even why he said what he said, But i do know that sooner or later enough people will band together to come up with a new bill and force it into law, its only a matter of time before we do not have any rights in this country, If we dont stick together and do something about it now, The bill of rights will be a worthless piece of paper, You can say this isnt how it happens, But we the people are the ones slowly stripping our rights, The government is just passing bills, That we came up with, Not them,( Safe Act excluded), I myself have signed and will sign every one i see, Its not about how he made his money or what he did as young man, Its about the attacks from the mainstream public about something he said, It is an infringement of his freedom of speech, The government isnt attacking him yet, But if these things are allowed to continue, Its only a matter of time before it does, JMHO

    YES or NO?

    yes, does it really matter
  18. 3,4,5 a combo of all three its nice to shoot a good mature buck but at the same time i like watching other people get deer,
  19. im done with the rifle and shot gun, i missed a real good buck today and seen 4 other bucks as well as a whole bunch of doe's
  20. Does it have a flame sensor, If it does that could be shot, you will get flame but it wont turn the gas valve all the way on,,,, or it could be dirty use a little sand paper and clean it up, The flame sensor will look like a thin round piece of metal rod thats normally bent at a 45 degree angle near the end and sits so the flame will hit it,
  21. My buddy brings a plastic shopping bag with him, He uses a hang on stand and takes off the seat cushion puts it in his back pack then takes the bag ties it so it hangs under his seat frame sits down and goes into the bag, when he is done he just ties the bag and throws it away when he gets home,
  22. ok so on sunday morning i had two buddies both shoot deer and needed help with the recovery so i went and helped them, We found both animals and then we went and looked for my buck again, 100 yds into the track we found his first bed and the we jumped him, He took of at a good clip limping hard on his right front leg, we watched him go 3 hundred yds across an open bean field, and he disappeared out of sight when he swam the outlet, So im thinking he isnt hurt as bad as i thought, Second Belo i really dont care what you think or even what your thoughts on this subject are, this entire post has been filled with nothing but ignorant horrible comments from you, I had the scenario worked out i just had to call and wait for a response, But then again if you couldnt understand that from my previous posts, You are not intelligent enough to understand much, You can continue with personal attacks against my decision, But seeing as you dont know anything about me you truly have no clue what your running your mouth about, You have no clue how close to property lines i was when i took the shot and you have no clue on how much time myself and friends took to look for this deer, The original post said sorry just venting, Its all it was, I do thank everybody else on here who realize that things happen that are beyond are control and have supported my decisions and understand, Again thank you i would be glad to help any of you anytime, Most of you seem like great people, But Belo you are a horrible person and just so you know you truly are clueless, I hope you never have the same problem i just did, Being as your perfect i really dont understand how that could happen, But hey i would even help you if you needed it because thats how i am, Again thank you everybody for the support, I learned some important things this year and i will not allow the negativity of one person ruin my decision to stay a law abiding citizen who cares about the wishes of landowners around me, Again thank you for the support,
  23. ok so im supposed to trespass on property that i have to talk to the landowner first in order to go on, How many people on here complain daily of people trespassing, Just because there is blood does not give me the right to go where i please, I do have this situation worked out ahead of time and this land owner wants to be there when i go on his property, I dont think its to much to follow the rules laid out by adjoining landowners If i piss him off now is he gonna extend the same courtesy in the future, We noticed where the deer went and i called the land owner left a message and waited for him to call me back, The thing about this forum is there are a lot of opinions but some of you guys im so glad im not hunting near, You think its ok to go where you want and do whatever it takes, I personally dont believe that a deer no matter how big is worth getting a ticket or worse, Im not contradicting my self when i say its about the animal, but at the same time we still need to make sure that we follow the rules and try our best to make hunters look good even in a bad situation like when a deer goes farther than we can, Just saying, Maybe it doesnt mean much now but i know respecting the landowners wishes will pay off in the long run, Just sayin
  24. Ok deer search just called lol guy says the deer should be dead just keep looking for him, Grrrrrrr ya i wont be calling them again,
  25. Ill put my tag on the buck, i wont trespass i cant stand it when people do it to me who am i to do it to them, If he is there i hope to find him and ill tag that deer with out hesitation, i shot him and i want to be able to say i did, Its about the animal i need to know is he alive or is he dead, i wont stop until i find him or somebody says i cant look,
