  1. So today I hung a stand . the 4 sticks, stand and tired off safety line above the stand and then on the first stick , total time 11 minutes, had the 4 sticks on in 4, was shocked it took 7 for the rest. Clock started with sticks tied togather next to stand and rope not tied to sand yet, stopped when I was back on the ground and tied rope off on first stick. This stand won't move all season which is why I set it up like that, I could have hunted out of it in 10 I guess. One trip up,tree. Put first stick on tree, then daisy chain all the others so I can pull them up and attach as I go, life line used as haul line , tied to stand and my belt loop, hauled up when I'm on 4th stick. Stand got stuck on branch on ground took some pulling to free and then I rested a bit .... No doubt I could be up in my LW climber faster maybe 5 minutes , I'm 58 and move slower now ..... I keep one stand and sticks ready for new spots, or invites to,other spots . I like that I can climb down when Mother Nature calls, or I drop a call , I like not having to hunt for " climber trees" it's worth the extra 5 minutes or so to me .
  2. It's half full at my work ! Tons of hunters , sometimes going to work seems like going to deer camp . Most are bow hunters and the story's and pics sure get sent around, you run into another co. On a call and it's how's your season going ? Lots of does killed because , well we understand the need and love the meat. I've not once heard a guys deer " dissed" either to his face or behind his back , but were all tight friends at work . Headquaters does run a buck contest and non hunters pick a hunter to bet on ,somewhat like fantasy football . Im off to hang a stand and weed whack my gun range otherwise I wouldn't be up this early ......
  3. No , special clothes , soaps and sprays and other gimmicks solve all sent issues, I know I've read the ads .
  4. I've found trail cams aare a nice way to,get before pics of bucks guys kill a road or two over . I look forward to the pic of you standing over this guy though !
  5. I'll PM you . At This point her permit and that .38 is in my safe . She has roommates , which means a lot,of friends and friends of friends in that appt. plus she's gone a lot . Along with, id like her to take a formal training class in SD . She agrees she'd like her own place and more trigger time first , although she's quite safe and getting quite good . I'd feel fine bringing it to,her now if some circumstance warranted it though . Just saw its an air weight , mine is steel and I don't really want to lighter . Thanks for the offer though .
  6. Don't think you can, I get just a black screen on my pad .
  7. I'll trade you my wife for him , he has her beat in a few areas, wife comes with 120 acres in 8H , I may even throw in our house .
  8. I prefer to think of myself as misunderstood, but I get it .
  9. 3 for 3 vs 0 for 15 . Doesn't solve the dog issue but that's the route of it . Id ask him what the problem was the first 12 years ? He knows it's not the dog any chance he'll listen to any advice on how to change his hunting style ? As soon as you get him a buck , he'll be calling you dog "Lucky ."
  10. Winchester ! It just came to me , I can see the black box with there name on it .
  11. I sat in a ladder and watched buck after buck leave the thick stuff walk along the woods and cut in before reaching the hedgerow I was in . So brought my climber next time to set up along the woods, all shag hickories..... , I walked around in circles , looking for that climber tree that did not exist . ended up moving the ladder . I've nothing against them and always thought I'd have one , but I can hang sticks and stand in a few minutes and climb up,and down to take a leak or grab something I drop, or just leave it up if it's a good spot . About 15 years ago a buddy from, out West came back to bow hunt with me , he brought 3 LW sticks and LW stand . Picked out a tree, strapped on first stick then second I tossed him the third then the stand which he was standing on in about 3 minutes , couple hours later killed an 8PT . My ah ha moment .

  13. My Savage .270 , I don't recall what scope is on it, but it was a package deal. Ammo? Not sure really I've got a few boxes and they have a pic of a deer and elk on them . hope that helps
  14. You always get a pass my friend , she's single too ! Oh and marches in the mermaid parade on Coney Island every year . But you already got a mermaid ....
  15. Might run a few over leaving the gym, that's about it .
  16. The youngest has her permit and I put my da only .38 snub on it just to have something on it, till she gets what she wants . It's a hard gun for a novice but I like the simple manual of arms , and you really got mean to fire it , no "oops" with that gun. Her being in Buff we don't get to practice to much together . Today we did my 6 inch DW .22 and the snub . For fun I put a ear of corn on the target , first shot blew it into creamed corn, that's all it took she shot the snot out of that gun and did really well. yes needs to work on stance
  17. About 22 yards my only arrow for today . Now off to our land to shoot handguns with my youngest daughter and her friend . ive got the top of the white dot down .
  18. I'm trading my Lone Wolf climber to a plumber buddy for some work . I've got 4 sets of LW sticks, and Lone Wolf and Muddy hang ons . I hunt a lot,out of ladders , and maybe 3 hang ons , the 4th hang on and set of sticks is for being mobil if needed, I can strap on a set of those sticks and hang a stand in minutes . I don't need a straight tree and limbs don't get in the way either . Ever since that foot bar on the climber started to collapse on the top of my feet and I could not go,up or down ( about 15 feet up ) I've never been 100% comfortable with it . The climber may be a little faster , but all the setting up both halfs adjusting it so,it levels out at the right height , making sure the foot bar knobs are tight , finding a good " climber " tree, not to,big right kind of bark ( hickory sucks) no low limbs nice and straight . Guys love 'em I know , and I killed some nice bucks and does out of mine just not for me anymore .
  19. Welcome and good luck . You're not near me so I can't help you out. Try joining a local gun club and over time cultivate some friendships . Look for land to,hunt and just set out on your own, others have done it, heck who knows yo might met fellow, hunters at the parking lot of some state land .....
  20. Don't sweat it. I have Utah and Fla permits for the same reason . Yes it seems odd to be flying and out of state with your gun , but you're legal. Very little chance of the Airlines losing or it being stolen . As long as you're not changing planes in NYC , you'll be fine . They're real pric&s , if there is an issue with the plane or some sort of delay and you have to "claim " your luggage there they arrest you for having the gun in NYC, if it's checked right through you're fine . Side note when I was young and dumb , my friends and I backpacked all over the U.S. Always had loaded handguns driving across all kinds of state lines... I'm from NY in Colorado with a .357 I borrowed from a guy in Texas , true story . My daughter recently flew out West to hike , she carried a Swiss Army knife and pepper spray on the plane in her carry on . Returning she again walked on the plane with the knife and her bag was flagged . They said her water bottle had over 3 oz in it . Yes we had a talk about checking her day pack before ,for such items, but TSA are idiots . You could always ship it to a gun shop at your destination . I've been known to pick up a package at the front desk , but shipping to a gun shop makes it legal and all if that's a concern . I bring two packages to post office have them weight it and put postage on both. When I arrive I pick up,package 1 at front desk, when leave I have them mail the second pre stamped one .
  21. Congrats and enjoy it ! My parents had a boat since I was born , got my first when I was 12 ( 58 now ) . Since '85 I've had my parents '64 Starcraft , 17 footer . I've avoided the 2 footitus , Altough I can't count the number of my friends who bought a boat, then a bigger one and a few short years later were no long boat owners . Im on year 46. Gas, oil and ramp fees have been about all my costs . The engine is new it's an '83 Johnson . Boat has been stored inside since new. Its been sunk once , but runs good as new .
  22. Few yeas back one was practicing landings in a field I was turkey hunting in . I had an urge to touch one off just for grins . I looked them up on the interweb and asked them not to practice there for the month of May . They offered to take me up for free, I passed .
  23. Last arrow tipped block over . First group today was my best. Its a struggle between my bad shoulders and practice . Shoulder hurts but I need to work on holding anchor longer, even though I shoot as soon as pin floats over the " spot " on stand a long hold is sometimes needed . "Accident " ... There are guys at work who wear boots like that as they're easy to take off, when a run comes in. I wear manly Rocky side zips. No 4 xl is an incentive , kinda like women trying to get a bikini body
  24. That's why I shoot one BH and it's the first arrow of the group .
