  1. I will only use cut on contacts. Pass through and 3 inches into the dirt, the one time I hit the off side shoulder the tip was sticking out throught he bone and hide. I feel that with a double lung shot ( well non large bone hit), they just don't feel the hit. I'd say 75% or more of my bow kills drop insight often less then 30 yards, they seldom run at all .
  2. Its a fact in bowhunting there is going to be some deer never recoverd. Its a bad experience that i wish on no man or beast. What i don't understand is why a hunter would post on the WORLD wide web about it. Talk it over with your hunting buddies PM someone who may have good advice. Oh and to add that one got 'piss drunk" after just makes us look how the anti's want us to.Bunch of drunks who wound deer. Good luck the rest of the season, just give some thought to what you write for the world to see .
  3. First hour today in Canandaigua ( 8H) Saw 4 bucks chasing does. Two pretty good bucks ,two young guys. Friend here in Webster saw bucks chasing as well . Hunting tomorrow Am then working 3 nights, then off till 3rd day of gun. Got freezer filled now just mature bucks and if its right does for friends. Its on boys !
  4. How do you know the does were on their way to work ? Did they have little lunch pails? Sorry I couldn't help myself. Well anywho I had a spike on a mission this AM in Canandaigua, walking fast, not feeding, stopping etc. covered a lot of ground got to watch him in my binos in a field then pop up in the thick stuff, where I was a few minutes later. I'm on days this week end but thats it till Nov. 20th so I'm happy to let the woods rest a week or so now .
  5. I agree 100 %.I got ASAT that is I'd guess 15 years old. First year I used it was weird ,it seemed like i would be 'looked at" but never spotted. I really love it ,the down sides is not much of a choice in that pattern couple coats, bibs, pants. I agree guys see it and don't get it. Where are the sticks and leaves? lol. Oh and its not what your brothers see that matters.
  6. That sucks. I believe I should be able to leave my wallet on the dash and the doors unlocked. However I know thats not how things are. I leave NOTHING in my cars. In gun my case is left open while I'm afield so I don't come back to a smashed window . Cars are broken into far more then houses why anyone would leave bows and guns in them is beyond me. Everything I buy gets my name scribed into it as well, in several places.
  7. Websters dictionary. Catch 1. to capture or seize as after pursuit ; to take. While I may not capture a deer I sure pursue and take them. So those folks are not to far off. Well off to bed getting up early in hopes of catching a big buck on this way back to his .....
  8. I'm NYS certified to the intermedate level in rope rescue.Gone up a rope 5 stories with nothing but 2 Prusiks... You want a good rope, you won't find this at Loews.... You want your loop made out of smaller diameter rope. I like a double or even triple fishermans knot for the loop. The loop gets tied on the main line via a Prusik.I've seen many mess it up. It will slip on nylon and the like type rope. The Prusik will need to be dressed. We will toss out a rescue rope if it gets stepped on , so keep in mind wrapping it around bark, dirt, and drop testing loads , pulling deer behind the atv with it will shorten its life . Some of the rope hanging from my trees cost more then the stand in the tree .But then I know a few guys who have broken bones from falls.
  9. Good reminder, but have your first aid gear WITH you. I'm a fan of Quick Clot myself. Quick clot, trama bandage, guaze in a baggie is a good start. http://www.z-medica.com/consumer/Home.aspx
  10. Here is what I do.Save it for COLD days only. Do you really need it on the warm days of bow ? A cotton t shirt and sweat shirt as base layers will not kill you, we're not hunting the Rocky's in winter. I wash mine after each hunt, 2 hour sit after work I wash it. Now when its dry I spray scent killer on the arm pits after I turn it inside out. I never got why guys put on 3 layers and spray the outside of the outer one, really ? That has the less human scent on it. Also walk in with as little clothes on as possible.
  11. Poly propaline I'm sure thats spelled wrong has always held smells . Use it wear it often enough and it seems to come back faster . http://www.discovery...1/skinnyon.html These body oils are hydrophobic," says Obendorf. They don't like water either. "If you wash a hydrophobic fabric soiled with these hydrophobic oils, you're going to get less-than-complete cleaning, because they tend to like each other. It's easier to launder oils off a hydrophilic fiber like cotton." Furthermore, Obendorf says, since synthetics don't absorb liquids, the sticky oils may collect on the fiber surface, where they're more vulnerable to the odoriferous onslaught of oxidation. What he's saying is cotton long underwear will smell less and clean easier then high tech stuff.Next thing ya know someone will say wear wool for an outer layer.......crazy talk !
  12. Thanks. I sat out sat. because of the weather, worked days S,M,T and knew W and Th ( my days off) would be bad,so I gave it a shot. If nothing else I figured I'd feel better having a hunt under my belt.
  13. Figured I hop in a stand after work today, Plan was not to shoot a doe as there has been a nice buck by this stand in the afternoon,but... It was 4:45 plenty of light left and I got most of the rut off to chase big bucks, so I sent a Stinger through her, double lung shot she went 40 yards. Hour and a half after i left the firehouse in rochester I filled the freezer in Canandaigua not bad !
  14. 132 eight pointer, has it right. I thought the poster meant Letchworth Ohio.......
  15. About 10 or 12 of use would rent 2 cabins for a week during bow fun times. We mostly would go towards the river , way in but be ready for a long and hard drag out, sometimes hours. We had a no doe rule, well unless you wanted to drag her yourself ! If you drive the road at night and shine a light onto the woods,in places it looks like a busy airport with all the glowing tacks....... There are some farms off the west side of the park rd. deer tend to come out of the river bottom and head there for a night feed, then back down in the AM . One of our guys has hunted there over 35 years ,many have 15 -20, they would not be to happy with me giving out on the WWW what they learned over decades....... Take note of the no hunting areas and the AR's in place. The Park police do check you coming out as well as the cabin areas , and no you can't shoot the bears. Someone of our group would see one daily. EDIT. Just saw your "does" only ?? Never was before so I checked there site no mention of does only, just the AR's in both bow and gun . Good Luck have fun.
  16. I gotta say I don't know anyone who does not use a travel size pack of baby wipes. Best thing going. Does a way better job, plus one can wash off their hands after and when finished gutting . I "go" once a day like clock work, right around 6 AM so ya its in a field most days oct-nov. I keep a tote with extra everything in it in my van.Harness, ropes, steps, seat cushions, gloves, facemask, food, lights, batteries, wipes, flagging, knife and last but not least Atomic Fireballs ! a 20 minute take your mind off things mouth full of hottness !! Plus I almost always see a deer after popping one in . I think thats the what Lee and Tiffiny use as well as those Texas guys in the houses up in the air . For a pen I like the Fisher space pen.Small, writes in rain, upside down and so on.
  17. I did great ! Got up at 9:00 ,drank a lot of coffee went to the gym, walked the beagle. As far as hunting my nextdoor neighbor's borther took a small buck and a guy from work saw 2 small bucks and 3 doe,he hunts a spot in Mendon that the deer pour out into the fields like on them tv shows though. Most guys I know slept in, but the ones that went said day break was not too bad. Really want to get a sit in under my belt, hoping for Monday ,should be on stand by 4:00 or so if wind drops down. Lunkerbass where do you hunt ? I live in Webster and hunt Canandaigua.
  18. Most guys I know slept in today, but then we all have a work schedual that gives us 50 % of the days to hunt plus any tricks we take off. I took off 3 weeks....... One guy who went out saw 2 small bucks 3 does early when the wind was not to bad. I'm off to the gym then going to the "mall" with the Mrs. ........... But she counts on me being gone most of the next 2 months, no sucking up required, but it can't hurt !
  19. I'm lucky as my job is not m-f 9-5 . I'm off this sat. but on days s,m.t. so I would like to hunt sat. but wind and rain ? I don't have to go as I'm off 25 days this bow season and can also hunt the times I'm on nights which means 30 days or so. If I just had week ends, ya I go. Good Luck !
  20. And yet my friends out west kill deer and elk on the ground with guns and bows, while living out of tents in the same clothes for days at a time. Oh wait I've done that too..... One of my favorites is when you see guys wearing 4 layers and what they do is spray "scent killer" on the outside of the outer layer . I wonder if the thing to do is put dirty smelly clothes in our hunting woods year round. Deer learned that human scent is a threat . Lets make them think its a normal smell. If you go where deer never smell man the reaction is not the same as where they learned to run from it.Also I know many folks who get deer in their yards a lot,I'm one. The deer don't run from me unless I get real close,I'm sure they smell me I know they see me . I once posted here trail cam pics from my yard of deer feeding a couple feet away from my manikin that i dressed as a hunter. She was wearing my old hunting coat that I use as a work coat, don't wash it and store in the garage, also a baseball hat I wear a lot along with bino's and BB gun. The deer are feeding feet away from it the first night I put it out....
  21. From the late '70's to IDK early 90's I hunted Tunley rd. in Sodus off of Lake rd. We did OK and near the end pretty damn good . Can't help much with today though, but I don't think its to bad. 20 minutes east in Webster we have tons of deer and some very nice bucks.
  22. I check every gut pile I come across.knives, watches, find all kinds of lost stuff, I often can find the owner. As a knife nut and collector, I have at least two folders on me and often a fixed blade, then the car always has one or two........ One can also buy good knives with orange handles ! If one thinks about it camo knives and dark colors such as brown may be better for selling more knives then hunting use.
  23. Perhaps it's because i work with ladders that weigh much more then our hunting ladder stands, but i don't have any issue putting them up. Here's my method. I carry them in fully assembled on my shoulder, a pad works well on shoulder. When I reach a spot with some room I jam one of the beams into the ground and walk it up on that beam. Once its straight up,bend knees and grab a low rung with my right hand, straighten up lean beam against shoulder. Now just like with any ladder walk over to your tree and lean it into place. Its all mostly a balance issue ,not a man handling one .
  24. My fieldpoints and broadheads fly the same, as they should . Which is why I never understood the whole mechanical thing. I have a few practice BH's that I shoot along with my FP's everytime I practice .
