  1. Well it's going to be 61 on Monday , so you guys can get out and hunt then, but then you will be crying for cold weather again.. I am heading out now for the evening hunt.. I am bow hunting so sightings are happening just not the deer or range I am looking for .. Good luck to all,, it will be all over soon enough so get it while you can,,,
  2. This is the best weather to hunt in !!!! Deer really seem to be moving .. More mid morning and early afternoon ...
  3. Did anyone go over with you where the vitals are on a deer ????? The neck and a$$ will kill a animal but that is usually reserved for things that have gone bad trying to make a ethical shot..
  4. I hunt five different property's that are in different areas !! In the past two years I have noticed and significant decline in the deer population on two of the property's and it's not from over hunting ... Increase in the coyotes...
  5. 4 out of 5 hunters harvested bucks yesterday on 100 acres of property 7J Fennner To many shots to count well over a hundred by 9.00 AM Hunted in Fabius at night shooting started around 2.30 and was constant unti 4.30 Just not be me .. The neighbor of my property shot a nice eight at 4.00 also 7J Just got home from hunting and watched a large 8 point mount a doe on hillside on the side of the road Chittenago The rut for sure is on around here
  6. I had two deer ticks last year in my back and had them removed from the local urgent care.. You have to be careful when pulling out ticks as their head will dislodge from the body and remain in your skin which can cause a infection.. I kept the tool which enables you to grasp the head and remove the tick successfully .. I also was informed that if you get them out within 48 hours of being attached you have a pretty good chance of not getting Lyme disease,, the nurse at urgent care said that after that time the ticks become engorged and then vomit back inside you , that is when you are most likely to contract Lyme disease .. Ticks seem to be a big problem around hear in the last ten years .. I also heard , but have not tried ,, if you heat up a pin or a cigarette and touch the back of them , they will back themselves out.. Like stated above skin them and eat them as usual ,, I always check for ticks every time I shower after hunting ..
  7. http://www.prohuntersjournal.com/article/?a=27 This is always very close to what's going on in my area ...
  8. http://www.thehuntingbeast.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2311 This is interesting info , IE if you already don't know Sorry about you losing your deer ,,get back in the saddle and try again plenty of time left..
  9. Had great success !!!!! I only use a doe decoy though... If you are Hunting for Does sometimes they get spooked... Shot some nice 2/12 year olds with a decoy this time of year before the rut...
  10. Taking down posted signs???? Spreading the word on bucks they see???? Spreading the word to who??? More monsters they see the more the problem becomes??? Why??? Seems like the biggest problem you have is someone taking down posted signs as you have provided no proof or examples to anything you have stated in your original complaint ??? Other than you have a problem with spotlighting which to you is poaching somehow ,, again you have provided no proof of why spotlighting , spreading the word about monsters and paying high taxes equals poaching
  11. Didn't steal your camera after walking by it twice ?? That's a plus..didn't happen to get a picture of his back tag???
  12. Yea cause you have never shot one yourself...........Deer hunting certainly is not all about size , I have shot many nice large bucks over the years and many small ones and I have fond, and sometimes better memories from the smaller bucks ... I haven't tried to cook the horns yet but maybe you could shed some light on how the big horns taste over the little ones .... Congratulations on your friends bucks and thanks for sharing the pics , I enjoyed looking...
  13. It's hard to believe they can't work out the bugs before deer season, I got mine on yellow paper from last year with lots of blanks in between tags .. So frustrating they can't get it right ,
  14. It always amazes me the will to live of these animals !!! Imagine your self with that type of injury going on with your day... Yes of course you did the right thing!!!
  15. It was 70 degrees by 12.00 noon last year on opening day of regular season in Syracuse ... Not very conducive to deer movement ... I heard it explained once as imagine yourself in your winter parka on a 70 degree day, don't want to do much but lay around and drink beer till it cools down...
  16. How Much Gas Does My Pilot Light Use Your pilot light on your furnace or fireplace is a flame a little larger than what a candle would put out, but your pilot light is hotter. Your pilot light on your furnace or fireplace will consume 600 – 900 BTUs! Some would try to argue saying there is no way a pilot light consumes 600 – 900 BTUs, but it does. How Much Money Does a Pilot Light Cost This will depend on how much your pilot light consumes and how much you actually pay for your natural gas. This is usually printed on your gas bill. But on average 600 – 900 BTUs would cost you around $0.08 – $0.11/day. Which would be $2.44 – $3.35/month, or $29.22 – $40.18/year! How Much Money Will I Save Turning Off Gas to Furnace This depends on where you live. Here I could probably turn off the gas and electric to my furnace 6 months of the year. So I would save $14.61 – $20.09/year just by turning off the gas to my furnace during the summer months. - See more at: http://gogreeninyourhome.com/how-to-save-electricity/turn-off-your-furnace-in-the-summer-time-save-gas/#sthash.EOuBRoRb.dpuf
  17. Checked my camera today !!! I didn't set my time and date it was 2 in the afternoon , Figured out from the last time I was there ... I just bought this property a month ago and scrambling to get ready to hunt it , just got a second stand in today.. Hoping that my son will bag him!!!

  21. I live in housing tract there is a old house near me that has five large old apple trees, I have also grown up,and lived in this area my whole life... Every year the same thing happens around those trees a lot of early season activity and a few large good buck sightings, from everyone I know who hunts.. The apples fall from the tree not in one spot or a pile or all at once !!! The deer come at all different times and not on a schedule , the apples run out and the deer stop coming through that area less and less, Also there are years where apple trees do not produce the same amount of apples as the year before .. I have hunted this property before and it's not easy predicting where they will come in or to set up, wind , trees to set a stand etc.. Not the same as a bait pile which can be controlled and is unnatural.. I also hunt another property where there are so many scrub apples and corn that you could dump a pile of either and it wouldn't do you a bit of good cause the food is so plentiful.. To say hunting food plots or planting apple tree is the same as baiting is just plain absurd ... Planting a tree or food plot ,hunting natural food sources is what you do when you hunt deer!!! They move to eat, not exercise then you get lucky the big boy slips up and follows a doe somewhere he not supposed to be , and then goes and finds another that's when we shoot them.. I just bought ten acres and I am going to plant apple trees which I'm sure will be many years before they bear fruit, but maybe someday I will reap the benefits of it, if I'm lucky.. It always amuses me to find how passionate people become over deer hunting like they defending their kids ....just enjoy your time in the woods, and appreciate how lucky you are to be able to do it..
  22. There 40 round boxes !!! They were kind enough to sell me 2 boxes , that's the limit per customer per day in Dewitt Dicks...
  23. Well said +1 Put the time and effort into learning the property that you hunt, and it's not all that difficult to harvest a deer .. Baiting is like most of today's society , that doesn't understand what a honest hunt or day of work is ..
  24. I did upgrade it to the 209s some years ago.. I have had it quite a long time ... Been thinking of getting a new one that breaks , and is easier to get the primer on.. The cold and my hands don't seem to work like they use to...
