  1. Hmmmmm..............Lets see here; buck and doe with the bow were shot in the pines, doe with rifle was woods, buck (in Pennsylvania) was shot on a narrow lane between a stand of pines and a stand of locust (I was in the middle of the field, in a old farm wagon) and the last deer, a buck in NY was shot in the woods also. I do have places where I could hunt fields but rarely do as the too early/too late tendency slows me down as another night in jail turns me off.
  2. Today is the big day......I don't have high hopes; I'm not going to be home so I'll leave it up to my wife to work with the installer although I'm only a phone call away. It doesn't thrill me either to have a stranger in the house when I'm not there too. Wanna bet I'm going to even MORE pissed when I report back? ☹️
  3. For me it's a draw.....first is the bear I saw during archery season from the stand. First bear I've ever seen in NY. Second would be the look on my father's face when he mouthed the words "I just shot a big buck!!" That was pretty darn cool too. I can't pick a First Place.......... can you blame me??
  4. You can try all you want but you'll never catch up to turkeyfeathers "Likes" count.
  5. Keep it coming; misery loves company.
  6. Before I clean and put them away this morning..... 7-08 and ML'r
  7. As far as I know it's the "same" name but different companies. The wireless folks get plenty of me cashola too.
  8. I bought that same ham yesterday and we've had it for dinner two nights now. Also I bought a turkey breast for $9 there......should have grabbed a few. And yes, the ham was good. So were the mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. I rarely shop for that stuff but damn, it was almost $90 before I knew it. Bastids.... That stretch of Canadice Lake Rd you speak of IS very narrow, I've wondered about the danger many times.
  9. I'm pissed right now at Verizon.....they pulled the plug on our DSL and phone line the other day in an attempt at (successful too) luring us to Fios. I battled with them on Friday and then agreed to go with Fios for the phone and Internet. The sales guy said I'd have my DSL up and running by midnight Friday. It ain't ....... I bitched like all heck at them on Sunday and one lady said "gee, once we pull the plug there's no going back". I told her the guy the day before assured me it'd be back up and running that night and my phone would also be working. She said impossible........ she sent me over to somebody else who said "oh, we will have you up by 9pm Saturday". It wasn't and isn't! They really are a horrendous outfit.......... That said, me time is limited here but rest assured, (in my best Arnold voice) "I'LL BE BACK!!!"
  10. I did loose a piece of Lapua brass on the PA buck I killed......bummer. Killed two deer with the bow and both arrows are A-OK, blades on broadhead are junk. Thats all I can think of right now.....??
  11. Like others have mentioned, I've wondered why Wunderground and the weather channel internet sites are running that warning.......WTH??
  12. IMO, bino harnesses are fine in warmer climates with less upper clothing to deal with. In our climate, you usually have multiple layers on and that helps to cushion the weight/skinny strap from your binos.
  13. Chemical heaters are the only way to fly if stand hunting for more than an hour or two. If walking, whatever boot you want will work although you may have to walk FAST.
  14. With age comes smart decisions......... Good move!!
  15. This morning I killed a NT 8 pointer in East Aurora. I watched him for over an hour before I could kill him as property lines are close...... The shot was at about 35 yards and he only went about 20 before piling up. Although he was on the right side of the line at the shot, I went down and skidded him over 50 yards so there were no problems although anyway you slice it, fresh snow tells the tale. I new he had a funky rack of course because I'd been watching him so long but after I looked a little closer, I saw some skank around the back of his neck. He was missing a big area of hair and had green goop frozen to his remaining hair in the area. Really gross looking! I talked to a few friends and even got a hold of the local EnCon officer. My buddies were spooked by it but the DEC guy said skin it and see what your eyes and nose tell you. I gutted and dragged him back to the truck and brought him home. After much thought, I decided I'd donate him through the local butcher shop. I figured I'd let them tell me what they thought.....they said no sweat, we will take it! I just didn't like the looks of it; the green pussy frozen matter, hairless patches and lack of an usable flesh wound from fighting or a bullet/arrow soured me. Ive never had to do that before and I hope I never do again.
  16. Probably caught guts.....
  17. 8x32 is what I use......a 42mm objective will be heavier and not as compact.
  18. I bought my son one 10 years ago, used. Chambered in .223 and it's a tack driving winner. Merry Christmas to your son!!
