  1. Is it a permanent stand or a ladder stand? So I use ladder stands, sometimes I cut branches from maple or hemlock trees and nail them around to add cover around me. I've also ran 3 pieces of 2x4 around the front and sides of the ladder stand. Heights so when I'm sitting I can rest my elbow/arms on. Then I cut 2 small trees and tie those from the ground to the 2x4s then nail branches all around the outside of the 2x4s for cover. That's my preferred method of doing it, this way it also covers my legs when standing and I can move my arms and I'm fairly covered. PS nail some branches around ya and keep hunting it.
  2. Yeah no kidding, wonder what the battery life is?
  3. Check out cuddeback, they have a cuddelink system where you can link multiple cams so pics are fed to one cam, I believe you can have them sent via cell. I might head this direction next yr, that way I can have multiple cams spread out over many acres and check one.
  4. Brother just called me, said he shot a huge buck from my back yard hut, hopefully it was a good shot
  5. I'm pretty much set after punching two tags already. Buck has to be 120 or better. I have some friends that will need some meat so I may shoot another doe or 2. No pressure sits for me, although I think the rut active has picked up near me and might be a good opening weekend for some of us!!
  6. Awesome job!! I hope I'm as good as you are some day!
  7. You don't drink the night before, u drink while your out there to stay warm :-)
  8. I've always thought about taking a shirt and sweatpants and sewing a bunch of pockets all over it to fit hand warmers in. A cheap headed jacket.
  9. Backstraps with au jus, loaded baked potatoes, some veggie (haven't decided) fresh Italian bread and a Kelly's pie for dessert and Evan Williams eggnog after that!
  10. Well tonight was my last bow/xbow hunt until next yr. I decided to hunt in the backyard tonight and as soon as I climbed I to my homemade hut/stand I saw a dark blob walking the field edge of a neighboring property. Grabbed bino's and saw a wide buck (never checked him out for points) working an existing scrape. I gave him a few grunts and started heading in my direction, but between me and that field is thick tall brushy section making it impossible to see him very long once he started my way. I occasionally gave some grunts, bleats and a couple snort wheezes but after awhile I figured he must have changed course. After a long while maybe 30-40 min later I see a deer standing to my left (in range) he had just walked out of brush. I gave him a sound to stop him and sent the bolt thru the heart and lungs. Sadly my son was in the house doing his homework that he put off all day and missed the hunt. Luckily he was with me for the short track job. Maybe changing my name from zag to bbd helped get me out of my funk.
  11. Yeah a couple months a go i didn't know who was who for a while on here! names were changing like underwear
  12. I was having such crappy luck I changed from my initials zag to bbd hoping to change my luck. The last handful of days it seems I'd zig and the bucks would zag.
  13. 3 bucks and 4 doe so far, rut seems non existent. Maybe one of the 5 bucks I'm after shows up!!
  14. Same here, hoping they are moving all over the place this am as its my last day till this weekend. GL
  15. Mossberg .300 win mag. Won the gun 2yrs ago and I'm yet to shoot a deer with it. Maybe this is the yr I pull the trigger on one, I could use one more deer.
  16. Where's the best setup tommorow, food or cover?
  17. Also I've noticed over the yrs taxes seem pretty high in the prattsburg area vs other towns.
