  1. hunters aren't great at judging numbers, especially after 1 day. I've hunted several days in a row without seeing a deer, then I'll pull cams and see hundreds of deer at night or in other areas. Really the only way to accurately judge numbers is through biologist studies. Even if deer sightings are down and anecdotally hunters are disappointed, that doesn't always totally correlate to a reduced heard.
  2. When i bought my first rifle about 6 years ago now, I wanted one that could handle deer and bear. My research at the time showed that a big bear would go down easier with a 180 and really a 150 is the right weight for a deer... so I went with the 165 and never looked back haha. Hornady SST superformance to be exact.
  3. agreed. not really any different than bringing a gun. However, if you're all set up with a decoy and caller I'm sure you'd get a pass. Seems like an issue I'd like to avoid if you're hunting public land anyhow.
  4. i've got the same, it's not lazy it's smart. I've used it for a lot of other projects as well including hoisting up the lawn mower to clean the deck.
  5. if there's a picture that shows a light into the world of wolc more than that, I've yet to seen it.
  6. I got my first AR over the summer and I also ordered a vortex PST which was delayed till July, then September and now December ugh. I wont be hunting them till after deer season anyhow but I would have liked to have sited her in over the summer. Right now I have a eotech should the rioters test their luck at least haha.
  7. I would love to see one, but hope I never get a shot as I don't want that decision.
  8. Please RSR, do not shoot doe on the run
  9. Here's the thing about a smooth bore 20, it will kill deer. It's a nice gun for turkey (with the right load), squirrel, upland and waterfowl. But it's not really the best gun for deer. I have never hunted whitetails with a smooth 20, so maybe someone else can chime in on affective range. I have a mossberg 835 and if the 500 is anything like the 800 and I believe they're pretty close, they make it real easy to buy and swap barrels. I'm going to assume that price may be an issue, but ideally you'd buy the rifled cantilever barrel which is nice as you can mount a scope and switch barrels without having to mount and unmount the scope. The rifled barrel will allow you to add some distance to your range and shoot a nice sabot slug like the hornady sst. I didn't price hunt, but this is the first link that popped up and actually comes with a scope, which might be an affordable start that you can upgrade later when you can afford to. https://www.opticsplanet.com/mossberg-92010-500-barrel-20-gauge-24-rifled-cantilever-scope-mount-blued.html PS you'll now have a bird and deer gun at the swap of a barrel.
  10. not familiar with Frankies, but we did have lunch/dinner at Daikers to catch the bills game!
  11. no bear or even deer seen this weekend, but it was a nice trip with the family to the cabin. Even the trail cams were sparse. I enjoyed the woods meditation though and I'm still glad to have made the trip.
  12. I just buy every 10+ years haha
  13. and here I am concerned about the fall grass seeding I put down haha. I don't see a frost warning in 8F, but I know it's going to be cold as hell in the daks for my bear hunt this weekend.
  14. join BHA! I don't even hunt public land anymore, but I did and we can't undervalue it. Once it's gone, it rarely comes back! https://www.backcountryhunters.org/
  15. it's incredible the number of injuries I've seen over the years that are the result of somebody's instincts to grab something falling. In investigations 99% of the time they don't even know why they tried to catch or grab it. Often it's a strain, but sometimes it's a tear. I hope it's the former for you. As far as comp goes, you'll be covered for all lost time and medical expenses so make sure you file immediately. I'm not sure you have a case for anything above and beyond unless you can show negligence on the part of the company for not maintaining or repairing the cart. If they deny your claim, lawyer up.
  16. as someone who makes a living in the workplace safety field, i'm curious what happened. Might be able to give you some pointers on comp. Hope it's not too bad and you heal up quick!
  17. cant wait to watch them. have to finish the last 2 episodes of yellowstone first. didn't know stars in the sky made it, i've been wanting to watch that but didn't want to pay haha
  18. the angle issue is a good positive for the biscuit. Also it's one less mechanical thing to fail. a con sometimes mentioned that never happened to me while I shot a biscuit is that the whiskers can have water condense on them and freeze.
  19. back when we argued over hunting (mostly) and not other things. sigh
  20. I'll be out this Saturday up in the north. This is my 4th year giving it a half-assed attempt. Haven't had great sign and i think all the bears live and reside in the safe zones of the old forge camp grounds haha. That said, it'll be the first year where it's not unseasonably warm in the 70's.
  21. dammit i wanted this to be true SOOOO bad https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-obama-trump-dream/fact-check-obama-misquoted-as-saying-the-american-dream-is-to-be-donald-trump-idUSKBN23G275
  22. are you shooting both from height (in a stand)?
