  1. I usually don't say this about bucks but.. damn! that guy is perfect!
  2. oh I see, haha some people might get confused no matter what you do... ???
  3. Even though I live in the country I still love getting further away, and there really isn't much better than that type of relaxing.
  4. No worries, I was having fun any way. I would love to see a survey for all hunters, it could be web based even. Just log in with your license # and away you go... why don't they do that? Man we just solved all of DEC's problems right there...haha
  5. We have ticks bad up where I am...I have had several bites, I don't worry too much though. I just wait to see if the bite turns into a bulls eye, if it does thats bad but other wise harmless. I remeber a guy from the old forum pointing out that there are these bugs called deer keds..(I think) that are very simular to a tick but have less legs?? I don't know but it may be worth a google for you?
  6. No thats not possible...bucks can't possibly get big with out AR!!!! haha
  7. "Work on your reading comprehension Doe...the shafts are the same...the feild tips and broad heads are the same the fletchings are the same. the knock is the only difference" Right clearly I am defficient at reading your post... you say.."There is no difference in the actual arrow construction. The nock is different" ... um you said it, the nock and the length are different.. key word being different.....So can you interchange them back and forth...if they are same it shouldn't be an issue... nope can't do that cause they are different. What is the problem with a bolt being a bolt and an arrow being an arrow? sheesh, come guys they are built the same yes but are not the same, hence DIFFERENT! And what is with calling bows veritcle bows nowadays? They are still bows, whether it be compound or recurve or long bow or even... oh no... crossbow relax guys I am having fun with you.... man cross bow guys are uptight....rmember its supposed to be fun..ok back to arguements
  8. Now that is something to be proud of there bill...congrats!
  9. Right so they are the same but different..haha If something is different it can't be the same silly. Any way you guys are running out of things to argue over finally, thats nice to see.
  10. Thanks guys, Man I can't beleive how fast Gus is growing! I looked at those pics from a month ago and he is alot taller/bigger now. He is doing good with our training too, we have learned sit/stay, fetch, come, heel on the leash and Gus figured out he likes Chukkar and Ducks this last week. He isn't to fond of swimming yet but I'm sure he will get it in due time. I plan on testing him next spring with Navhda so hopefully he will be ready by then. The next big thing is getting him to figure out he has to point the birds not try to tackle them, I can't wait for that one to happen.
  11. No I want it all! haha Tuff question, I keep going back and forth in my head.. it would be nice to gain some extra days in the woods, but the week of the rut can be some thing to see.. hmmm I say keep it the same way it is now. It seems like it would be better for the deer if they had a week to breed before gun starts and a bunch of em get killed off.
  12. I have had a grunt tube work quiet well for me, I find a couple of soft grunts help settle a deer down some times. It may not be an immediate response but I have had a few bucks come in to check it out. I do remember one cold morning of the rut my father and I were looking for a smaller 4 that we had spotted, we still hunted in, spoted a buck at a far distance, he hit the grunt tube and the much bigger 8 took off and ran directly to us grunting back the whole time. With every jump he would grunt, he covered several hundred yards in a few seconds and came into @15 yards. Ofcourse due to the fact we were in a hurry to set up I was in a crapy spot and the buck stopped with a tree blocking the vitals leaving me with nothing but a veiw of his rack. My Dad did manage to fling an arrow at him but he missed. We watched the buck run off and bed way far away on the other side of the valley. That was a day to remember. So they do work but it depends on the area and time of year.
  13. I'm with you SteveMcD, early October is where its at...Once the rut hits who knows where the bucks will end up.
  14. Do they sell spike buck decoy's? haha jk...
  15. I wonder when it stops being fun for the guys that put all of that time and money into something and aren't succesfull in any way. We are after all hunters, we are supposed to kill deer. I know that isn't the only reason we all go but that is the main goal still right? to kill a deer is the completion of that goal, for some reason I picture guys sitting around waiting for the big one all pissed off for years on end because their time is wasted. All of that time on scouting and food plots and gear and still no "big buck" for them to verify their skill must kill them. I wonder how on earth my family and I kill deer every year, and bucks too, some of which are "big", with out all of this seriousness I read about. : Its a hobby, try to enjoy it for what it is.
  16. Hey biggame, good to see you made it.. how is that Beagle of yours doing? We got a German Wirehaired Pointer recently, I have had lots of fun training him, I know you can relate to that!
  17. Remeber these pics guys I guarantee you will see them circulated this season again.. not by you Mr VJP, they make the rounds every year.
  18. Let me first say I now nothing about goose hunting but... We spent last week up by Lake Placid camping and the local news had a story on this, I do not understand why even knowing their reasons. They were talking about the danger to jets hitting them while flying, after that palne went down in the Hudson from a goose strike this all came about. The thing is up there as far as I know there aren't any air ports so why kill off geese when they pose no threat? I agree with you, they should at least look at lengthing seasons or expanding bag limits first. Its one of those things that make you scratch your head and say what?
  19. Lyman Deerstalker 50 cal pushing a 385grn bullet withs 90grains of BP for me.
  20. I don't know, it seems like there are more hunting shows than ever before and also more products that are advertised too. Some people are greatly affected by marketing and beleive in it like the bible. As far as kids go, that is our jobs to teach them that TV hunting shows may as well be cartoons.. they ain't real life most of the time
  21. My buddy lives up in that area there, he has had bear on his front porch and when I was there I saw sign. He even had a bear poop in the dirt road in front of his house... (not in the woods get it?) Any way there are indeed bear in the area, he lives on Seven Ponds Road which backs up to the state land. He has had luck with deer too, not a huge amount of deer but he does see them on a regular basis.
  22. Not to get off topic but....I have a hard time understanding the people who hunt and don't eat the meat, whats up with that? My family and I love venison more than any other meat and go through as much as we get in a year.

    Skeeters

I got a therma cell for x-mas last year.. the things flat out work, I even bought some for camping I was so impressed.
  24. You could put some article of clothing at the spots you aren't hunting and then play the wind. They will skip the spots with human odor and if you get the wind right come out close to you. But then again you might ruin it for yourself and spook all the deer out.
