  1. Buy a lone wolf assault or alpha and 4 sticks. Way more versatile in terms of tree shape/size/configuration. Have two of these setups and a millenium m100 w rapid rails...sold my old al. viper, POS open shot and lw alpha climber over the past few years because the lw are the fastest and safest hang where i want not on what tree theyll work.
  2. Call the DEC for trespassers not the sheriff- there are differences in criminal trespass and encon Also- tags trees w paint on your lines- had a neighbor that loved to pull signs...it made for easy remarking. The sam e neighbor was in my backyard hunting- the dec's first question to me was the property LEGALLY posted, then if I had asked the guy to stay off- I replied yes to both and was surprised to see how serious they took it from there. 5 or 6 years now with out a single problem.
  3. That whole - where they bed- where they travel- hunt the bedding approach is key..... And no one thinks the deer of NY and WI are the same..... NY sucks
  4. The BBO videos are the best instructional videos hands down....as stated it is a compilation of instruction and observation that kills deer...The Nextbuk Farm country is okay, as is Eberharts.... The Benoit and Hal Blood ones didn't do near as much for me....but then again I hunt flat more than hills...their books were good though
  5. 8g worst year in 21...south winds and standing corn cursed us
  6. I asked Jeremy Hurst this- he replied it would cost too much. Mind you these hunters were randomly selected, though geographically selected (cant be random then, now can it.???). I asked to partake and was denied. Its all trumped and doped...and as always in NY money driven...you and the deer dont count unless license sales are effected
  7. The cost of the dog initally doesnt mean anything...a free mutt will cost as many thousands as a pure bred in the end. Research and obseved good dogs...a 10-15 year hunting companion you cherish shoukdnt be based on dollars...afterall if you have time to spare so you cna bird hunt your balance must be good anyway Ive owned 2 GSPs and a GWP...want a good dog? keep em on birds, discipline and love him
  8. When rage first came out i played with them- had a bunch of Oring issues and the one deer i shot wiht them the blades were bent and the edge was turned over- very poor broadhead...but am not sure if the new ones work better or just have new marketing for a similar inferior product. I shoot reapers- and have for 5-6 years..... hated mechanicals prior but they tune easier and kill well. Guessing 12-15 kills and one loss. The loss was my fault. The broadheads did there part every time. I do agree that theyre not the sharpest..BUT i found a cheap and pretty amazing fix. A cheap Smiths boradhead sharpener from cabelas or gander works wonders on these. I have actually resharpened some used blades and used them again. This is something i never thought should be done. I also sharpen then blades new. Easy fast and works wonders in terms of ethical kills. Just my two cents...
  9. Our states regs are based on maximum hunting license sales imo. Theyre not based on deer biology an dsure not out to please everybody. If you go to Ohio you jaw would hang low....there regs are a large portion of why they have giants yet everyone is happy (or close to) with the system. Baiting, dogs, etc doesnt make or bag big bucks...and the reason why NY deer are so hard to hunt is because NY hunters are primarily lazy slobs. Gimmick buying bums that love gun seasons and driving 50mph gusts here and precip and it sounded like a war zone with jackwagons sighting in ...take a ride by any sporting goods store and youll see the Bone Collector bumper stickered trucks full or camo clad morons...... My neighbor grunts so much i think deer now make turkey sounds because theyre annoyed with their language.
  10. Whats your goal with them? More deer activity- more mock scrapes A place to kill a mature buck- good luck- scrapes arent it Doe scent- not necessary. Deer scents are for HOPERS
  11. Does have been coming into estrus since september- just not many....but immature deer are very inquisative...thats why the usually fall to scents....a big guy or two may die by them but theyre just another poke and hope product for the camo masses...
  12. There are some banner properties here in NY as there are duds in Iowa. Basically the larger the tract of undisturbed land that offers bucks everything the higher your odds. You can manage the hell out of 500 acres and never hold one of those or own the right 50 and have one every couple of years. There is nothing fair in deer hunting and although i am a die hard manager- and invest thousands and more hours than I would want to know.... mature bucks are where they are taken care of without input and left alone.... which almost never pairs itself with a hunting property in the north east.

    ugh?!?1?!?

What did she do when you shot? What did you hear? High back/muscle hit will appear the same as a miss from a lack of blood and arrow standpoint

    Statagy.....

anyone glass or scout prior to season and make plans for season? You guys must think wealth comes form scratch offs
  15. do they inflate your numbers assuming you dont report all the deer you see like the do the kill take?
  16. The only one of those options that will make a difference for bucks is shortening gun season.... i am a mature/trophy deer guy....shortening gun season is what i would love to see.....but that would be second to improvement in game law enforcement... we have so many cheaters and most of them target bucks...whether theyre 3 pts or 20
  17. it is tough to find a common denominator with deer but luck is not where its at. maybe you have great ground....maybe not Hard work may be necessary for some folks but it will always pay back.....hoping for luck is an admittance of being lazy
  18. The answer is YES- before you got them at minimum
  19. Hunted ohio a bunch- left the stand before legal shooting ended because it was too dark to see and provided enough darkness to get out. You can hunt geese 30 min past- its a joke you cannot with archery tackle Ironically the pro gun posts and luster for ohio deer in the same thread...NYs gun hunting nature is why we can never be ohio (too long, too aggressive, too many) and until the spoiled gun hunters are willing to give up to gain things will never change here
  20. between people ruining it, people chasing trophies, ridiculous taxes and the shifting pay-to-play nature of our sport this is where its heading fast.... goose fields in genesee co are going for 2-500 each...
  21. This is exactly why NY hunters struggle as much as they do and our herd is so stressed.. What are the deer telling you? Not some jackwagon with a keyboard but the deer- you know- the brown things you are hunting....?????? If you have a mature buck lined up for an october morning you're way ahead of most because you found good entry and exit to his bedroom and youre hoping for some sort of angelican light to illuminate the area through the canopy above... UNLESS you have done the research (scouting; not asking questions on a forum) you'd be way better off staying out the woods in the morning until the end of october....then again maybe some like pressured herds and shooting anything in range.... Then again if you stated you based this off moon phase for the first few days of season and scouting I'd be impressed
  22. How can cover scent fool an animal that lives and dies by its noes which happens to be around 4000xs better than ours???
  23. May be 3.5- sort of tough at that angle...maybe 2.5 105"
  24. There is also a LARGE relationship between hunters in the woods for cams and stands and deer not being in the woods where they were
