  1. http://www.cabelas.com/stoney-wolf-hill-country-bucks-dvd.shtml?WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleBaseUSA&WT.z_mc_id1=1164643&rid=40&mr:trackingCode=6406F915-921B-E011-8E88-001B21631C34&mr:referralID=NA Buy this DVD. watch it 3 times. Start over with a good approach. sorry for the snarky opinion- honestly trying to help
  2. SImply put- want a big buck? dont shoot a little one......all the truth and insight you need is there. Dead bucks dont grow. His rack was small because he was young. If you can start to pass bucks like this you will be amazed at how much better your ground gets (of any reasonable size) and the numebr of deer you see. In the mid 90s I wouldve wanted him mounted on the wall- shot a few 2.5s in the early 2000s- now I watch him and his buddies enjoy their adolesecnce- fight, feed frolick and .... and when his old brothers come out I am reassured it is all worthwhile. The area this pic is form is where I hunt and know best....there are lots of does here- there is the meat.......people hide behind excuses and folks who shoot 2.5s do so because they feel they cannot do better. Most areas this si exclusive to a lack of selfcontrol. Just my two cents though...the legality and liberties are in palce for folks to do what theyd like in NY
  3. It is always nice to see how the most tasteless people in this "sport" are the most vocal....
  4. year round- forget the scent- just have proper location and licking branches....more BS on mock scrapes the past yr....... keep it simple...
  5. Anyone who says they save meat by taking a head shot - what do you do with the rib meat? Internal organs? Come on....if youre that concerned let us know This is just one more tasteless sect of our fraternity that keeps PETA powerful- some jackwagon will post a pic of a Bambi labotomy and a stack of beer cans and keeps things boiling..... how stupid and tactless. It is the way they dispatch beef cows but there is not place to brandish this as a hunting mechanism..or a hunter..... just some d bag toting a gun.
  6. I had them, in quantity- like 15 of them- some flew great some did not...inconsistently made- number your arrows and heads and see. Also felt the edge was lacking and they did sharpen up nicely...but thats just my two centscc
  7. Hang you stands in the spring and you will see a ton more activity in the fall. Also why did you hang them where you did? If it was based off last years in season scouting....if not maybe you just picked a lousy area.
  8. Nope. Funny how so many guys like QDM but would shoot a 2.5. LOL. Amazing to think the DEC said 40%+ of bucks shot last year were this old or older. Sad state of affairs here in NY for male deer.....
  9. If you throw the cobs there it is baiting- if all of the process is mechanical it is not- and that was answered by someone from the DEC

    Times

if youre anywhere near a field it should be after light....in the woods (am hunts) 1 hr during bow and as early as you can make it during gun.... exit means just as much too
  11. Verify every shot you take Things will go wrong The fact is the less lousy shots you take the less marginal performance you will find If you are wondering about shooting up a deer's arse; I am guessing you have other aspects of your deer hunting that need to be addressed first imo
  12. The last week of october into the first week of november will be the "right" time of pre rut (chase phase)...tickle them light (not that BS you see on the shows) but remember that if youre not scent free or concealed you just "flushed that ground" Peters stuff (inc webpage free vids) is good. Not a fan of plastic horns though and cannot stress enough it is when important but stealth is huge....and this call tactic is playing off testosterone filled bucks...some may not care...some may run
  13. truthful and awesome post- nice to see some smart NY hunters

    Deer/attractants

buy a good book or dvd (eberharts perhaps), save your money on the gimmicks, and have a successful hunt if that garabage worked- everyone would use it.
  15. please move to the gun forum or create a crossbow one.....
  16. Same statement as always- the state manages license sales....they know so little about deer numbers....if you dont know how many deer are there; how do you know how many should be harvested? whats the carrying capacity? How does the DEC age bucks? Why are bucks with less than 3" "tines" called antlerless? ..... all about revenue...the only bucks they care about are green

    Human Scent

Scent lok and the others cannot work- I have used carbon for air and water filtration in a real commercial setting; just not happening and your suit would burst into flames before you "reactivated it"...could spend days on why and proof...but just trust me here Chlorophyll pills- cheap and help some Ozone- some work to a certain degree at least on the down wind side or removing human odors from clothes in a tote....does nothing on where you walked etc....another mild success cover scent- do you really think youre going to beat an animal that finds and avoids everything with its nose.... So what is the answer? How expensive is it? What brand? .............. Play the wind including entry and exit.....anything you have to rebuttle this is an excuse or an area that cannot be hunted your way without an outrageous amount of work....if it is hard to figure out; you have just realized why mature deer like it. Pick some milk weeds- use the floaters to wind map your stands, save your money, kill some mature bucks and then whether you care or not abotu peoples deer pics on here you will have a few with more antler than argument
  18. Theyre all commercials...heck- even most the videos have gone that route....they prey on the lazy thinking some product will be the magic key to score a big buck....NY hunters are the worst imo....Gander in Buffalo is sold out of just about every kind of (illegal) bait....the Acorn Rage, Trophy Rocks, etc...... hard work one the front side is key.... These shows are all outfitter based fully endorsed farts in the direction of true hunters who have to deal with outrageous hunter denisty and so called state management organizations...
  19. awesome!!! great job. Best part is I wasnt there to help you clean them all.
  20. Totally agree with most hunters know nothing but load 870- point at a brown thing and pull trigger repeatedly til it drops or runs out of sight. Region 9s deer biologist is a non hunter, and bear fanatic (which should only be 20% of his job)....great seat for the heaviest hunting area in the state isnt it? Again- they appear to be only about license sales. Look at all this conflicting info (which NYON surely is a culprit of instigating further) on youth hunting. Again-ever ask yourself why are changing or adding seasons and how does this matter to deer numbers? So not a recurve guy but hand it to you for making the game all the harder and more satisfying

    10 to 2

I agree- midday does not have a lot of sighting but by far some of the biggest bucks...just read an article (somewhere???) from P&Y stats and ~60% of all entries were 4-6 pm lol.....
  22. Isnt deer managment in any shape or form a personal want unless made law? Curious as to what your plan has for principals and goals (if you wouldnt mind sharing).
  23. Would love (yet cringe) to see the stats on wounded deer the first year these are allowed for archery...(which is coming) Why do we need them anyway? For youth, elderly and warm weather hunting...right? lol
  24. BH and tree stand shots from Sept (at the latest) on.... why wouldnt you want to practice what you are shooting? Know a few guys that can shoot a foam cobra/elk/deer like pros but need help tracking often...
