    2016

I think that one line item got messed up and should've said Dec 12 - Dec 20, ending on Tuesday. Another thing is according to that map WMU 4J and other WMUs that are bow only are open to muzzleloader late season. Disclaimer is thrown in for any implement other than a bow and mistakenly muzzleloader. as of the end of June the Regs guides were supposedly in the process of being printed. hopefully these screw ups won't show up in them and somebody caught it there and just not online.
  2. I think I'm starting to figure it out. anyone know... can you have things setup to where you just get email notifications if someone likes or replies to a post of yours? as of right now it seems like it's follow the whole thread or nothing. right now I've got nothing I think.
  3. yea I've been trying to figure out what's going on. I think if you post in a thread it automatically follows the thread and you've got to do what Wooly said and turn it off?? I think that's right. trying to get other stuff done so I haven't looked at it too much.
  4. not my choice of target but you hit it. looks like you're dialed in, unless you were aiming for the driver's side door.
  5. I've got a pair of Nikon Monarchs that were around $300 or so. They're pretty good. If you're going out west with that budget I'd go with Vortex Razor HD 10x42. Lifetime warranty. Steve Rhinella uses them for all kinds of hunts, they're pretty nice. haven't had a chance to compare side by side with Swaro's but at half the price they'd be my purchase if I was looking to spend that kind of money.
  6. varies. my recurve is in a silicone cloth sleeve un-strung. my wife's Stiletto is in her black and pink soft case. My indoor ProElite target bow is in a hard case under the bow bench doing nothing. My new Elite Victory outdoor 3D bow is hanging up on a hook next to the bench partially setup. hanging next to it is my EVO/primary hunting compound that I'm using for 3D's right now. Next to that is my previous stripped hunting/3D bow (Bowmaddness 3G) that I hope to get setup for my brother if he's not so cheap someday. oh and I've got an old cheap compound that was actually my first bow that is sitting with pile of stuff for a garage sale. point is they all get checked on once in a while and aren't just thrown outside in the wood shed.
  7. it's a good idea... why wait. no distance constraints. whatever you're comfortable with or feel like shooting at. first arrow. no warm ups. no reason to slam another person for posting something honest either. limit criticism to harmless banter. I had a first and second shot that I took a picture of that was inspired by this idea last evening. Post it up!
  8. the system we have now can work. problem is most people want something for nothing. if you knock on doors and work for it you'll get to hunt land. especially here in NY no way would anyone just open their land up to the general public. if they did it'd be abused by a few and ruin it for the rest. there's enough hunting the property during the season that things are congested and drive deer into pockets. it'd be even worse I'd imagine. put in the time and work and you get to hunt land. never settle for one spot. give yourself options and something to fall back on in case you get the boot from one property for whatever reason, justified or otherwise.
  9. last I knew deerag had a plot calendar on their site for their different varieties.
  10. any store should carry chicken wire or welded wire ...like homedepot, lowe's, tractor supply, rural king, agway, etc.
  11. Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker with walnut stock. chambered in 30-06 Spring. light gun. 22" bbl. drop out box mag. 60 degree throw chromed bolt. Nikon 3-9x40mm to match. not the most accurate but sub-MOA and enough that i've take deer out around 300+ yards. had a buck on a dead run 50 or so yards out through the timber. rolled him on the second shot. skinning it out both bullet holes were no more than 2" apart. it's revered DMAP filler too on co-op grounds. it fits me like one of my own arms and handles like a dream for me. crisp trigger just under 3lbs. Took a pic. Bad light in basement.
  12. not even close. his message is when someone screws you over.... you bend over to show you're greatful. jello has more spine than he does.
  13. as phade said i'm definitely about public ground hunt. most memorable hunts I've been on were with others on public ground.
  14. we all started where you're at. everyone will just see all the progress you're going to make.
  15. that's too bad. Muddy is usually good about their stuff.
  16. this is interesting. most state land out this way is mature forests. never heard of NYS land being privately farmed.
  17. I think that's a valid pitch to a landowner. Admirable to say the least if you ask me. you'll develop lots of other reasons to hunt as you get into it, but none less contested.
  18. I don't hate coyotes. I don't want them around in any noticeable quantity though. A neighbor has said I don't shoot them or encourage it, because he heard they eat woodchucks. While this is true, coyotes also eat a lot of fawns. based on the experiences I have going after specific woodchucks throughout the summer, I think coyotes eat many more fawns then woodchucks. I'd rather have shot a coyote when I can and then take a new hunter out to get experience behind the trigger taking the amount of woodchucks the harvested coyote would've otherwise eaten. also I'd know that less fawns most likely would've survived without predation. Coyotes are an important part of the ecosystem. they clean up the woods in a sense, preying on unhealthy and weaker deer, as well as remains. By necessity to survive they're probably a better predator than even the best hunter. If coyotes become so prevalent, which doesn't take much, then less deer end up in the freezer. We're at the top of the food chain. My full freezer comes before a coyotes life if need be. Someone can tell me to eat something other than deer. My response would be to tell that to the coyote.
  19. If you make good living farming it probably means you've got a ton of overhead. As supplemental income hay seems to be good. Animals are tough to make a buck with. Farm no longer has cows. Just hay crop now.
  20. ...on our family farm it seems people show up in camo during or just before the season. never earlier in the year during haying season. not one has ever gotten permission. don't be that guy. do leg work ahead of time. except no with a smile and move on to the next door.
  21. https://www.qdma.com/articles/10-tips-on-asking-for-permission-to-hunt https://www.qdma.com/articles/how-to-find-and-keep-hunting-land ....in the last issue of the membership magazine "quality whitetails" there was just a great article on getting in the good graces with a farmer. the author is a farmer himself who wrote it, so it's advice from the source.
  22. Super Kodiak 60" AMO with 50lb @28" limbs. homemade wool string silencers. no rests or sights. just shelf to rest arrow on. Goldtip Traditional 500 shafts, full length, with 5" feathers, 100gr brass inserts with more insert weights screwed into them inside the shaft, 100gr Magnus stinger heads or 100gr NAP hellrazors.
  23. any public property that's huntable here in NY is federally protected forest or preserves with studies going on. i don't think it applies out this way.
  24. i agree with others. going cheap will waste your money. it won't work good enough to justify its continued use. Echo's are great. Talk to a dealer. lower end ones tend to not do much when it comes to wet leaves outdoors.
