I know the can get expensive. I've got a post-64' and it's probably less than half the cost. I'd think anything under $700 in reasonable shape is good. maybe someone can verify that though.

the Ultraflex sling I use makes the heavy gun very comfortable. almost always do but if I don't have the bipod attached then on the fly I can split the straps to support the rifle from both shoulders like a backpack. it's the heavier duty one but still has a small amount of stretch so it gives with each step and doesn't beat up your shoulder. most shots I stick to 250 yards. beyond that it doesn't take much at all to miss a chuck. I know of another guy that uses a 3 legged BOG pod to shoot chucks. does really well with.

same here. depends though.... practically any of the "sporting chef" recipes scott leysath posts are winners. there's a spicy stuffed turkey beast that's pretty good. http://www.sportingchef.com/category/recipes/smallgame/page/3/

on another note i noticed my sling was torn 2/3 through at the front swivel. i'll have to contact Slogan Outdoors and have them send me another. lasted several years so far. kind of surprised it was torn as it's the magnum sling that a little beefier.

burned through 7 more rounds today. 1 round per chuck but 2 got away to live for now. second time out but i'm now on the board at least. feel like the gun still isn't quite dialed in and i'm rusty. very calm this evening and i missed a couple. hard to say brush could've been a factor both times. we'll see. no pictures. maybe next time.

i've never gone to the Dr. for it but i've always caught them same day. within 24 hours is pretty safe but i've never had one at all deep. whenever i'm out i always watch for them. found them crawling on me or something later. have had maybe a handful freshly latched on. definitely understand going to Dr though. father in law is seeing effects real bad this past year or so from a bite. didn't even have one on him. just a bite mark.

I should really use the camera I got. pretty decent one that sits there collecting dust well the bag anyway. wooly one things I always think about it the shutter noise. how close where they and do you think they minded at all? awesome pictures.... even the best photographers out there take a ton and have to sort through them. seems instead of the gun in the back seat they've got a camera and tripod. never know when you will see something. wife and I were heading to breakfast around 8:00AM and had a long beard with limb hangers walk right by us several yards from the car bumper. we just sat there and watched. would've been a perfect photo op. wasn't on a property I knew of, so no APB went out to any youth hunters. (must be late and i'm tired. some mistakes needed correcting above.)

If you had $500 to spend and...

yea phade seems to be the camera guru around here. many of us have what works but he knows and probably experienced more across the board for different brands. -
need to get everyone you can and vote for Gibson and dethrown Cuomo. nobody votes anymore. they think it's hopeless yet the numbers are there. how we beat voted out his dad.

sucks because they could arrest you but i can't see it holding up in court. that basically just made of additional laws to add to the SafeAct.

this is the best idea. now that I've heard it I can't think of anyone better. not just bowhunter course but for example a group I'm apart of does a quality deer hunter course. goes deeper into gun and archery hunting equipment related to hunting. similar to some post license pistol courses that just expose you to all types out there.

I get it and truly believe the 200lb limit is BS because it eliminated a lot of what's currently out there. i'd just hate for it to get to a point where the natural progression to seek more and more performance turns into who can have heaviest duty built-in truck winch and heavy limbs that won't break under hundreds of pounds of load kind of crossbow. i'm for crossbows but you got to wonder where things are going.

The Tubman $20
dbHunterNY replied to philoshop's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
we try real hard to keep those special folks but there's definitely some in every country. can't fix that. I'm a just a simple redneck but can still wrap my head around someone like Tubman being on currency is a good thing. -
i think the aided cocking devices and unlimited draw weight shouldn't co-exist. crossbow companies will only push the limits of materials. won't be much different than firing a gun in some cases. i think the aid of a cocking device can exist with crossbows with limited draw weight. otherwise you have to pony up and draw it yourself. definitely support it being a normal archery implement used by anyone in any season. also it should be rolled into bowhunter course. anyone who already has had a bowhunter privilege needs to retake course or do the certification we do now.

The Tubman $20
dbHunterNY replied to philoshop's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
neutering our currency of symbolic history and figures for the sake of political correctness I think would be the worst we could do. someone in a third world country would look at the Bald Eagle and US symbols and just see a butterball turkey. -
The Tubman $20

nothing against oprah but I'd puke. shouldn't be in the same conversation as those of Tubman and others like her. has she bought unfortunate people things to change their lives? yes, but that's not real sacrifice compared to the others. -
The Tubman $20

Lincoln memorial on the back is somewhat redundant. take independence hall, white house, treasury etc. and make them smaller to fit other stuff on either side. back of the $1 bill to replace the "ONE" in the center with something and leave the masonic pyramid of left and seal on right. do the same 3 photo scenes on the back of the others. that's what I think. -
The Tubman $20
dbHunterNY replied to philoshop's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
as far as I'm concerned someone should get fired for replacing the figures on the $1 and $5 bills. no person in history has come remotely close to justify it. I get and support putting a women or different race on our currency though. I also think for the sake of conversation and telling the story of our history front to back (if there truly would be one where we're headed) should go together and not be based on who would care more about removing something which seems to be the way they're doing it. I realize what I said is a bit contradictory because someone or something has to go or move. just saying you can't half-ass change a currency that's respected and clearly recognized throughout the world. -

good luck John. be sure to share pictures when she flops one. -
there's a lot of smooth drawing bows out there with little noticeable hump in the draw cycle. comparing them to stick bows though even the slightest won't be go completely unnoticed. once tuned a bow will stay in tune for a long time especially with the use it get with you not using it as a primary bow. bows only lose tune from shooting over time causing strings and cables to stretch. strings have come a long way too but your budget bows don't have the best strings from the factory. many times when you buy a used bow it could have a much better custom string on it that if at all fresh will last longer.
-
if someone has a press and can get a hold of some old bows you can swap out cams and wheels from another bow and just get a cheap string that's appropriately sized for it. makes for a cheap bowfishing bow or starter bow. not many have the time, resources, and knowledge to do it is the problem.

Holding those responsible
dbHunterNY replied to Uptown Redneck's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
this makes complete sense that you'd have that mentality. I mean you are rocking the confederate flag in your avatar. just accept what the government says. no need to start a civil war. ...should I turn in my Remington 742 that's a semi auto chambered in 30-06? somewhere kicking around is an aftermarket 10 round mag for it. -
i don't doubt this "deer-forest study". that site is a great resource. did you find his "upcoming post" he mentioned in his closing paragraph? not sure if it's even posted yet. the study you posted would probably apply to Adirondacks but most areas here in NYS don't make up "large tracts of contiguous forest". deer density and travel patterns make them wonder further in big woods.

deer with a ripped ear really is a terrible thing. the livestock tag falls out. now you have to break into another set just have the numbers in match. hate it when that happens.
