  1. a little ahead of us.... soon i'll have pictures to update on the northeastern end of the state.
  2. no need to panic just stop posting. lol
  3. no idea i'd have to shoot and look at the target. i do know with most of me bowhunting setups i can still hold well within the 9 ring on a vegas face at 20 yards. however, as i execute the shot the float tightens up or gets smaller a second or less prior to release. that is definitely within the size of the 10 ring but not by much. also it might be weird but as the float tightens i shift focus to from the pin to the target and the pin becomes a blur. outdoors it's hard to say because it'd depend on wind and other stuff you don't deal with indoors. dimensions of a vegas face 9 ring is just over 3" and 10 ring is pretty much 1.5".
  4. Its thirsty Thursday time for a Treat. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. Havent had surly but a friend from WI days it's real good. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  6. no time to look for lost arrow or grill sausage. help Jay find his arrows and hit deer. I'd seriously start at locations he first saw the poor hits and track them from there. can't imagine you'd need a dog and anything's possible. keep us posted.
  7. Not dinner. Today for lunch had loaded baked potato salad with pulled venison sandwiches. Venison rubbed with Brazilian steak house style mix and slow cooked with avacado oil and a local IPA beer. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. he was in the right place for a giant. still no easy task with a bow. congrats to him on getting it done, given an awesome opportunity. elk is delicious. hunting elk is supposed to be flat out awesome when they're rutting and bugling. maybe someday in the future i'll make it a point to go after them.
  9. crappy appealed to my curiosity saying it's mostly for aesthetics. i've gone on cruises, stayed at resorts, and been to nice places to eat. can't say i've ever been to a place that had it or at least noticed.
  10. sounds and looks fancy but is squid ink not supposed to make things go away?? admittedly a little confused.
  11. they also keep track of that stuff. it helps with other decisions or whether or not to implement any changes.
  12. they understand this situation and account for it to a degree the big game unit has told me. if you do that multiple years in a row, likely hunting in same locations as you described year after year, it still will show trending whether or not the numbers are true to exact population. they don't put so much weight on your little honey hole that it matters but as they pool your data with others it works itself out. example, someone else sits in a poor spot with deer just over the knoll or ridge. they see and report nothing but there was really something there. i believe that's kind of the idea based on what they've told me.
  13. this can't last long.... i don't have a 6mm so it won't be because of me.
  14. i completely agree with the theory of shooting a younger dominant buck with a sub-par rack to prevent it from driving other potentially bigger racked bucks away if it happens to be in the area. that said, generally older deer are bigger with bigger racks and bodies that they've figured out can assert that dominance. so, i'd think you'd be implying to do so in a very limited circumstance. if you start shooting enough young bucks it takes a big toll on how many make it to older age classes. it's the rut and common place to have bucks big or small full of fight. whether or not they can back up the stiff legged walk as soon as antlers touch is another story. i've seen a lot of dominant little bucks run deer off the field and then get an education by another passive buck that didn't. dominant bucks aren't territorial so much as asserting dominance in the immediate area they happen to be in. not related to dominance but i agree that while you can't expect to change genetics in a free range herd, it does make sense to let walking genetics live longer if your will power allows it.
  15. good. now go out and kick his ass! punch him right in the nose and tell him what's up! hahaha
  16. that was in iowa! those results don't apply here! really though i prefer a Costner from Yellowstone reference... do whatever you want then when people or law shows up tell them "remember who you work for" and "get the %$*& off my land!" BWAHAHAHA
  17. likely putting in an order for some. this to date was the way to go with a bucket of aluminum roofing nails. might look at the others posted.
  18. I was kidding and reaching. We went off on a tangent not totally related to crossbows. Crossbow bill is a dead stick that just means crash and burn of they or Rick does the same thing next session. Everybody more or less knows the deal, but unless you're walking it through each committee and getting a ton of people in their ear. Then in the next committee it's the same. Then when it's ready for a floor vote in each house you do the same only one person decides if it's worthy. Several hundred bills can be in committee at one time that you have to acknowledge when talking to them. Why should this get precedence? it's died for 5 years now so time for its turn. Also if one house passes moves it along and its stalling in committee it looks bad for the chair. They wasted other legislators' time if they dont take action. Again they might not be aware. You have to babysit a bill a lot to get it to move in this state with anything regarding hunting. Not saying all this isn't being done, but your past post of not understanding why it can sit in committee with co-sponsors in that committee tells that crossbow supporters still dont understand the process. That's bad for keeping a bill alive. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. Stick with us we're justifying what to shoot with said crossbow and time of season and bag limits that may effect effort or time in the woods to justify more picking up a crossbow. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. Drinking beer by the fire with the family. Also put in an order for beer. Should be here by 8:30. Heres the order list. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. You're catholic? You can probably relax now. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. All BB taken around here seem to be 80-90 lbs dressed weight. From the one I processed and others I know of taken it's seemed to be less yield compared to mature doe that's 115+lbs. I'm very picky when I process my deer and no I dont like deer fat and idea of tallow on the roof of my mouth. It depends on when you shoot the doe during the season but it's not that bad trimming fat compared to say an early season buck in good condition. Shot doe early season with pure white fat and later with metabolized yellow fat, still it gets trimmed, and they still taste more than delicious enough. I can and have appreciated a tender BB. Still IMO it's not worth the lower yield we've seemed to experience here. All this week I've been grilling venison at work, cutting it with my fork and it's not tenderloins or rare. Separate note we have a significantly lower buck density out here simply due to what the ground produces, forget affects of pulling a trigger. Totally aside from meat I'll also admit I'm not inclined to dump the biggest BB around because he's got the best start in life to take advantage of his potential. I like it when those bigger than average deer get a chance to grow a little. Hard to say if my mindset would be different if I was used to a higher sustained deer density.
