  1. Ladder stands for sure. My favorite being on 5 acres in the corner of a friend's property. They have to walk through his yard and the neighbor's yard to get back to bedding. I am close to retiring from hang ons. Just bought a climber today. Not looking forward to dragging an extra almost 30 lbs out there but if it gets me onto some mature bucks I wont be complaining anymore.
  2. Keep my clothes in bins with 1 or 2 earth scent wafers after scent free washing and UV killer treatments.. Wont use estrous in the woods until the peak of the rut which has worked for me in the past so why not. I usually doctor up scrapes with buck urine or my own urine
  3. This is Enzo. He's a 7.5 year old Puggle.. Beagle/pug... he's mostly beagle. Loves to run the woods but luckily listens really well to commands. Howls. Definitely doesn't play fetch lol. Wish I would've started him deer tracking..
  4. This is all great advice... Can't wait for the weekend.. Got a summit viper. My friend paid less for another brand and the thing is so damn heavy...
  5. Just purchased a climber for the first time to access an area of our property that I've been meaning to place a stand. Well I'm not going to put in a new stand mid October so I figured I'd sneak in and climb up. Like many of you I stick to ladders for safety reasons. My days of climbing up spikes to hang ons are coming to an end.... Any advice or pointers to using a climber, like getting your gear and bow up, etc... Thanks
  6. Does this contain UV brighteners tho? I'm assuming the perfume free/dye free means no UV brighteners right? I treat my clothes with UV killer anyway on top of using the expensive store crap....
  7. I keep rattling in fork and basket bucks. The 1.5 year olds are pretty active on the rub lines daytime. No trail cam pics or sightings of mature bucks yet in 8H or 8G. One day a couple weeks ago i had multiple bucks on cam mid day all a few minutes apart, makes me think they were bumped out of bedding for some reason.
  8. Sitting outside of thick bedding.. rattled in a basket 6 other than that the neighborhood does all watched me get dressed at my truck. Good luck all
  9. I feel like It depends on how pressured the deer are... Last weekend i rattled in a fork buck around 830am in the rain. He started to rub some small trees and wondered where the action was. Last year a friend and i rattled in a massive 8 pt. Our stands on this property we strictly bow hunt are no more than 50 yds apart. We saw him come running in from about 200-250 yds away and stood between us as neither of us had a shot lol. This was late Oct. I use the knight & hale little plastic 2 piece set...
  10. Used to live around there during grad school, I would see 150"+ bucks routinely running through yards between depew/lancaster/williamsviile.. They certainly know where to hide, like my backyard in williamsville back then
  11. Saw some deer decided not to take momma doe just yet. Sitting on this funnel between 2 bedding areas. To be continued...
  12. Just called it a morning.. steady rain in 8H and radar is thick until mid day.. Saw all the local does browsing on the neighbor's property, who is anti hunting..
  13. Good luck all out tonight.. Looks like the deer are up and moving.... Gonna drop to 37 degrees in 8H.. Gonna wash clothes tonight and get in the woods early tomrrow am..
  14. Fair price.. And vaccuum sealed... Even better. Usually starts at 80 for your standard cuts around here in Genesee county, about 100-125 for the sausage, links, pork, etc added.. In my experience
  15. I would say my most memorable shot was about 3 or 4 years ago I had a 5 pointer running through the hay field I was sitting over. I noticed someone had shot him in the front foot but he was on the move. It's crazy how tough these animals are. With a buck tag in hand I got him on the jog (lights out) from my hang on stand at 90 yards with my 30-06. Was probably the smallest buck I have ever taken but it was the right thing to do at the time and I was proud of my shot.
  16. nice fat buck.. tons of blood there even us colorblind people can see that lol.. congrats on the early season kill
  17. oh no, i'm colorblind too.... ALWAYS need help finding blood so i have to call buddies as well..
  18. that 3rd buck into the fight looked much much bigger lol.. with the cold temps coming this weekend i would say rattling would be a very good idea!!!! worked for me yesterday when the woods seemed to be asleep...
  19. I agree with moog check the arrow for penetration but there will be less blood so i would exit the area and keep your wind away from the direction he ran for a few hours. If it begins to rain you'll have to consider going in sooner
  20. Staying outta the woods until next weekend.. Temps looking good
  21. Nope. Had to put a buck down that I spined with the xbow he was bedded the broadhead did not pass through shoulder blade on my 2nd shot.. Using piledriver bolts and muzzy trocar. Hard lesson learned so now i do not underestimate shoulder blades...
  22. Next weekend looks good low of 40 high of 50 here in WNY.. Should get the deer moving and hopefully bucks too. Gonna give the woods a break until next weekend..
  23. Steady rain in 8G but my radar isnt even cloudy. Hoping it stops soon. No deer sightings yet
