Site Suggestions & Comments
Otto replied to HuntingNY's topic in Hunting New York Annoucements and News
I have a Brittany and hunt him at preserves and on my own land for grouse, plus an occasional trip to SD. I hunt with my dog almost as much as I hunt for deer. I agree most people on this site are interested in deer hunting, but I do enjoy reading about other types of hunting, even if I may never participate in it myself. I also like having one site for "all" my hunting that is local to NYS. I am not on Facebook. This site and a couple of others are my Facebook. It doesn't hurt to have a section for hunting dogs. If there is no participation, take it out. -

I think I just bought my last item from B and H Photo. Also, I second the idea of a hunting dog section, excellent idea. Start with just as a general topic and add other sections for specialties if there is a lot of threads related to it. -
Looks like a beautiful spot and a very comfortable cabin!

Any New York State Snowmobile Clubs dedicated to Sportsmen?
Otto posted a topic in General Chit Chat
I use my snowmobile primarily for ice fishing and riding around my property. I don't ride trails or public land, but if I use it out on the ice, I need to have it registered. The NYS registration is discounted if you have a membership in a local snowmobile club, but I'd rather direct my membership money towards a club that is dedicated to Sportsmen rather than the local trail riding fraternity. Are there any NYS Snowmobile clubs dedicated to Sportsmen? I may just pay the full fee instead of handing over money to a local club that I don't participate in. -
Great job sticking it out!

Weeding gardens and mulch beds. Never ending and if you miss a week, you will be behind two.

Nice bird, and great pictures too! Congratulations!

There are two new episodes on next Friday, May 16. Last two of the season I believe.

Walyo, my friend just had his Brit trained with a guy out there that did an outstanding job. I've hunted with his dog several times and can vouch for his success! Here is his website: http://www.baconhillkennel.com Good luck and congratulations on the new dog!

My three favorite shows right there!

Nice job on the hunt and a great story to go with it, you earned that bird!

Thanks, I just keep waving my hand at everyone and smile!

I shot this bird at 5:39am, 10" beard, 1" spurs, 21.5 pounds. Tagged out and very happy I don't have to get up at 4am anymore. Unfortunately, while cleaning the bird I was not careful with the game shears and sliced my right middle finger open. I needed 5 stitches to close it up. Not a good way to end the day!

Wal Mart had a very similar model on sale for $19.99

We have used both kayaks and a canoe for duck hunting. But we don't usually sit inside them, use them instead to get ourselves and our gear to a spot on shore and then set up in makeshift blinds on or just off shore. We cover the kayak or canoe with burlap camo to hide them. We recently spray can camoed the canoe, so it is easier to hide and it holds a lot more gear, and me. (A little taller and heavier than you :-)

I just bought some fruit tree fertilizer stakes that you pound into the round near the tree. Pretty simple to use. I would let the fruit set and grow. If they made it through the winter, their roots are doing good. Too late to do any pruning now, do that in more to late winter when the tree is dormant.

Had a successful hunt this morning! Thankfully, we each had a blind to sit in in two different fields. Around 6:10 I saw 5 birds in front of my friends blind, so I turned around to watch the action unfold. After 10 minutes it looked like his birds were moving off, so I turned around to watch my own field. There 2 turkeys there! I put the binoculars up and saw one was a hen, the other a Jake. Both were moving in my direction. 30 seconds later a third bird -TOM - comes walking up too. I waited until they were in range and just as there were, both male birds were standing inches apart. I had to wait until they separated or risk shooting both of them at the same time. The Tom moved closer and I let one fly. MISS! He took off and was in the air within seconds. Young Jake stood around, so I pumped in another shell and knocked him down. Just after my fist shot, my friend in the other blind shot at a Tom, as those birds moved closer to his blind while I was working mine. He had a clean miss, so we will both be out looking to score again as soon as possible. It was a fun day in the rain!

Dicks and or Field and Stream has Cuddeback Ambush Country IR on sale from $199 to $89. Almost bought two, but just got one of them to replace a couple of my older ones. Just put it out tonight, so I don't know the picture quality, etc. But I love the other Cuddebacks that I have.

Just completed it. Thanks for posting it here.

DEC Webless Migratory Game Bird Survey - Includes Doves
Otto replied to mike rossi's topic in Waterfowl Hunting
I just completed the survey as well. Very easy to do. I must be on a special list at DEC, I also got the "Small Game Hunting" survey yesterday, and the Deer Hunting Survey last fall. I don't remember signing up for anything in particular, and I don't usually correspond with DEC either. But I am happy to get them, and fill them out every time.
