That Woodford Reserve is quite good! Love that stuff! Shots are Jim Beam, Manhattan's are Makers Mark, straight up after dinner is Woodford Reserve. 54 yo

One of my favorite seats is an old lawn chair with the legs cut down to a couple of inches. I think I've fallen asleep in it!

Thanks, nice idea! I found a small blade recently and have been looking for a sheath. This looks like it will work perfectly.

Here is my muzzleloader deer, my first. I came home from work early and only had about a half hour of daylight left. In my hurry, I jammed up the gun while loading, so I had to clean out the breech and reload. The same thing happened during gun season last year when I shot my buck and I told my wife on my way out the door that it was a lucky sign. Walking down to the field I saw four deer and tried to sneak down for a shot. I got about half way there and spooked them. I decided to wait out the remaining twenty minutes of daylight in a tree stand, hoping they might return to feed. Two minute sit and this four pointer walks out about sixty yards away. One shot and he went right down where he last stood. Given the poor gun season, I was very happy to harvest this deer in the late few days of the season!

How much wetland area is there? Is there enough for duck or goose hunting?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the magnolias set their buds in the late fall for blooming in early spring. I don't think there will be any damage to the tree from the warm fall weather. If anything, a harsh winter like last year would have a more damaging effect on it.

I marinated it for a couple of hours in soy sauce, worchester, olive oil, and some seasonings. Then I grilled it with sliced onions and butter. Don't overcook it, medium rare at the most! It was quite good!

Everyone has their own recipe for chicken soup. This is the one my mother used for years and years. Simple and easy to make, it is our family tradition to have when returning from a long trip or extended absense. Place whole chicken in large pot. (Be sure to remove giblets, etc). Cover with water one or two inches above the chicken. Slowly bring to a boil, skimming fat off the top. Once water is at boiling temp, reduce heat to a simmer. Add 2 or 3 whole carrots, whole large onion, and 1 or 2 stalks of celery. Add 2 cups tomato puree. Simmer up to 2 to 3 hours. Remove chicken, set aside. Remove vegetables and slice carrots into small pieces. Put 1 piece of celery and some of the onion in a blender with some of the liquid. Puree until smooth and return to the pot. Discard remaining celery and onion. This adds a little body to the soup. Bring to a boil and add 1/2 pound small pasta such as tubitini, ditalini, or pastina. Even broken pieces of spaghetti will do. Cook pasta until done (read directions on pasta box) This step is optional, I add 1 egg and 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese beaten together into the hot liquid just before serving. The raw egg will cook quickly. If you like your chicken in the soup, carve and add small pieces of chicken back into the liquid. We usually leave the chicken whole, eat the soup and pasta first, then carve off slices of chicken and eat that after. (A few shakes of salt help flavor the chicken) This is a good recipe for "curing the common cold" or upset stomachs, etc.... To add more flavor, I chop fresh parsley and a sundried tomato and add in with the vegetables. I usually leave it out though.

And the CEO is an avid hunter. I'm sure they would want to correct it. http://store.hofmannhotdogs.com/contact-us

There is a lot of good coffee out there, both in the supermarket and in coffee shops. Even Stewerts and Byrne Dairy have very good coffee. At home, we use Chock Full of Nuts for our morning cup. If we have some later in the day it will be from the Kuerig or an espresso or cappuccino. At work, we sold Paul deLima and our customers said it was the best coffee around. You can find it in Wegmans. The key to better coffee is in the preparation. Fresh, cold water and one heaping tablespoon coffee for every cup of water. (Not coffee cups, an actual measured cup, usually marked on the side of the pot or coffee maker). For a full pot, I'll throw in an extra tablespoon. If you are making it on a stove top, you know the drill....that pot needs to be watched constantly to get it right, but I love how that coffee turns out! I've never made coffee on a campfire, but I'll bet that is pretty good too.

Good for you! It's always hard to pass on any deer, but it paid off for you! Congrats!! -
Stroke of luck today...stopped in a gun shop I've never been in before and they had 4 boxes. SOLD. I also bought some Remington Copper Solids, I'll give those a try at the range when I get the chance.

Thanks, none of the clerks seem to know why they are out. I'm looking for 12 ga, 2 3/4". I'll have to really be stingy with the few I have left. More will probably be available ofter the season ends!

I have an 870 and use the Remington Accutips, they pattern well and are deadly. I'm down to 8 shells after sighting in this morning. I looked in 3 different places for them last week, can't find them anywhere. Runnings, Gander Mt, Dicks, all sold out.

Nice job on the video, looks like a lot of quiet time. Better luck on your next trip.

Sorry about your loss. Those quills look gruesome..... That must have been fun to remove.

Our golden is scared of thunder and even rain. He jams himself into the tightest spaces to get away from it. Lately, our Brittany has decided he hates the sound of the dishwasher, throughout the entire 90 minute cycle. We discover if we turn on a fan nearby, he calms right down. Neither dog wants to be consoled, just shake and hide or pace around constantly.

Add vegetable mixture and all remaining ingredients except beans to Dutch oven with the meat. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover. Simmer 1 hour to blend flavors. Stir in beans. The "social hour" as you describe it, is one of the reasons I love pheasant hunting. Besides working and being with my dog, I can carry on a reasonable conversation with my hunting partners without worrying about spooking the birds. I'll know when a bird is nearby when my dog goes on point! Deer hunting requires you to be still and quiet, bird hunting does not.

That looks great!

Several people have already given you good advice, you would be wise to follow it. Remember too, you are not the actual landowner. You would not want to put the landowner at any risk as well as yourself from any type of lawsuit.

Congrats, nice deer and a really nice photo with the lake in the background.
