Good Luck @crappyice !! Find it! PS: Since you know no choice because of your schedule tomorrow, it will have to be a nighttime grid search. Sounds like a solid hit and hopefully he is dead already. -

I went out today for the first time with the muzzleloader. Slow walk in the light rain. Stopped at one of my food plots and stood inside some thick brush for last 20 minutes. Finally saw two deer on my walk back up the hill. I was within 40 yards but with no shot, and after legal to boot. At least I saw a deer! I did hunt last weekend at my cousins hunting camp, we did two drives and an afternoon sit. Nothing. Hope to get out Sunday, and I might take off Monday morning. Tomorrow is in-laws family holiday party and my great aunts 95th birthday party. Time is running out! -
Yikes! I will know not to ever cross your path!

EPIC. I don’t know if I have ever seen someone’s chain yanked so hard!

Do you store it in the case? I never do that - always store in the safe with a Golden Rod to remove moisture. -
That was cool! Airedale, I though you took up chainsaw carving like Wooly.

Heal up Tom and get your dogs out there soon! Thanks for all you do!

Think of it as your "forever" boat. At least that's how I justify large purchases to my wife......

If you could plant 1 thing...What would it be?
Otto replied to ApexerER's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Yes, ours was to be fenced too, but to keep people out more than deer - chain link and razor wire. It was located near a State Highway, so that may have played into it, or maybe it was town rules. The project died for other reasons, but mowing and fencing were a part of it. -

You should double check about planting around the solar panels. When we looked at putting on in at our farm, part of the deal was we would keep it mowed four times a year. They need to easily go between the panels for any repairs or adjustments, so the field needs to be clean. -
I used 777 to start with and switched over to White Hots because they were supposed to be “cleaner”. Not in my experience! 2 or 3 shots through the barrel and you had to clean it or you would not be able to reload it. I am planning to switch to the 209 powder, but that will be on next years list. I’ll be using the rest of my 777’s this season.

We go about 12” in Syracuse. The first part was heavy and wet the second part was fluffy. My snowblower “hit” my mailbox too, but I only lost the numbers plate on top. I don’t think he actually hit it, but the heavy snow flying off the plow probably did the damage. I duct taped it on until I get a new one.

I have found the best way is to keep it at rare or medium rare at most. Well done will certainly be rubbery. My friend cut them into small pieces and quickly sautéed them with spices and served them as tacos. They were delicious! I would nor recommend grinding them up. If you have 4 hearts, I have heard that pickled deer heart is delicious too. I have not had it myself, but I am pretty sure I would like it.

I don’t have that many hunts or hours in. Last count was 24 hunts for me, most were 4-6 hours. Today was #25 and 3 hours. Gorgeous day, lots of fresh tracks, but not a single deer spotted. At start of archery I saw deer every single hunt, since mid-November I have seen less than 5 deer total. Oh well, going to try one more afternoon this week and then Saturday and Sunday. Then out comes the muzzleloader, hope to at least put down a doe for the freezer! -
Yea, I’m left out too, Thank god!

Yikes! Too many to keep up with for sure....I think one of the reasons I was so late to the archery game was I had too many hobbies to begin with. So glad I did take it up, it’s been a real game changer for my hunting. On the hunting front,,,, archery for deer, shotgun and muzzleloader too. Also some bird hunting, much more of it when my Brittany was younger. Also some duck and goose hunting. And spring turkey hunting. Besides “hunting”: Ice fishing (so looking forward to this season!) I shoot in a weekly archery league on Thursday nights, that is a lot of fun and a great bunch of guys too. Walleye and bass fishing at the cottage in Ontario Canada, with a weeks trip to Quebec about every other year. (2020 is on, who wants to go?) I have tied flies before and have the whole shebang of stuff to do it, but I don’t really trout fish so I don’t really tie much anymore. I may tie a few things up for ice fishing, we will see. Woodworking, from trim work to furniture. Just getting back into this after a 15 year or so hiatus. Canning - mostly tomatoes and peppers, but I do a couple of other things too if the mood strikes me or I have time in early fall. (Less of that now with archery) Winemaking - my brother, brother-in-law and best friend make 90 gallons of red wine, either Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon. We buy the grapes from California and crush and squeeze them on equipment that was passed down from our Father and Grandfather. Cottaging at “cottage” in Canada. There, they are not “camps” they are “cottages”, eh. This usually involves beer drinking and grilling or smoking dinner, followed by bourbon drinking. I do some gardening too. Garlic, tomatoes, herbs. But a lot more of flowers outside in the landscape beds and pots etc. I plant probably close to 1000 flowers around the house, and then spend a lot of time watering, fertilizing and weeding. On top of that we have a larger perennial flower bed that takes a lot of work too. I cut about 20 face cords of firewood a year to burn in the wood stove. That’s another couple of weekends. I also have about 15 acres of pasture to keep mowed (no more horses), plus the food plots I have been adding the past couple of years - so I get a fair amount of tractor seat time from May to October, then put a snow plow on the tractor and plow the driveway with it too. Not really a hobby I guess, but I don’t hire it out either. Is going to SU Basketball a hobby too? Add that on. And cooking too - love to cook, especially for holidays. I am going to nap now.

I have been using the Remington Accu Tip and they put down a deer well and shoot great out of my 12 ga 870. I also use the 20ga in my Savage 220, same results. This year I sighted in with the Hornaday SST and they were more on target than the Remingtons. But I don’t have any info on the impact or expansion or blood trail. (Still deerless this season) I have not shot copper at all, never seem to find them anywhere when I am looking at ammo.

Let us know what you found out, or if there is some sort of issue with Dry Shod.
-
Goose, I am sure there are goggles that would fit over your glasses, but they will probably mess up how you aim your gun. Maybe try taking a Benadryl before hunting; that might dry out your eyes a little. I get the same thing happening to me, luckily I don’t wear glasses, so it is not as much of a pain as I imagine it is for you.

Happy Birthday to the both of you!

Against advice, I bought a Spypoint EVO today at Bass Pro Shops, $149, regular $249. I wasn’t going to, but my wife was standing right next to me and said you might as well try i, we came all the way here and waited in traffic to get in. Bless her heart! I hope to get it setup next week sometime, will report results as they come in. I have been looking at the Cuddeback Link system, which can be upgraded to cellular. I like that idea, not sure if it executes well or not. That may be the next step.
