  1. Update on the age of the deer. The taxidermist said he gave the jaw to the DEC and the biologist aged it a 3.5 years, not 5.5. The euro mount came out nice, I’ll post a pic soon.
  2. Sat this afternoon hoping to fill my doe tag. When I was walking down I saw the odd spike I had seen a couple of weeks ago, about 200 yards away. Got up in my tree stand, saw nothing for aver an hour and a half. Then that same spike came out into the field, still alone. Twenty minutes later there were two doe out in the field, 200 yards away. That was at sunset. May try again tomorrow afternoon and hopefully Saturday too.
  3. This was our first time making ground venison. We based it off of a book by Steve Rinella, “Hunting, Butchering and Cooking Wild Game”. For ground venison to use for burgers, Bolognese, chili, etc. , he suggests 10% fat as ideal. For sausages, the ratio will be much higher, maybe up to 40 or 50% depending on your recipe. The machine only came with 2 plates, the one in the pic is the smaller one. It is actually very close in size to what you would find for ground beef at the supermarket. Again, this was our first swing at it, and I have not tasted it yet with the 10% ratio. If it is too light I can always add more when I thaw it out to use it. Open to all suggestions for the future.
  4. Final step on my bow buck. Mixed in 10% pork fat to make burger. Next deer scraps will be used to make sausage. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  5. Just listened to Willie Giess podcast, she was the guest and that is the exact menu she served him during the interview. Plus a salad. Yours looks good, going to try that one soon.
  6. Ina Garten? Parade Magazine? Last week?
  7. That would be enough for me to stay married!
  8. I’ve got one, I used a few times. It is comfortable and is ok for gun season. I haven’t tried it with a bow, but it seems like it would be too crowded? Are you using yours during bow or gun season?
  9. Also Legends of the Fall in Tully has a great reputation.
  10. I would add a Come-along to the list of items to toss in. It will be a LONG time for AAA to come rescue you, especially if it is during a snow storm.
  11. I’ve done the second one a few times and it came out great!
  12. Hey, I hunt Central NY. Welcome to the forum!
  13. Butchered up my deer last night. Took a while but we have some beautiful cuts of meat from this deer. The neck roast was massive! Shanks were meaty too, can't wait for osso bucco.... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  14. I took my deer in to get a euro mount. The taxidermist saw it and said "That's an old deer". He showed me how to age it by measuring the 4th tooth on the lower jaw with a metric ruler. Both sides were 4mm, according to his chart the deer aged at 5.5 years old. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  15. I read that the Weed Shops are open in Quebec now.....if you lean that way.
  16. Cheap and easy.....put a nickel on top of an ice cube in the freezer. If the nickel is at the bottom of the cube the next time you go back, you will know power has been off long enough to melt the ice and then re-freeze. When that happens, we toss everything. (Except the beer!)

  18. Shot my first ever bow deer tonight. 5 points, with one little nub trying to be a 6. 135 pounds dressed weight. Had dinner reservations for my wifes birthday, which were promptly cancelled! She understood, but tomorrow's dinner locale is getting upgraded! Two things to celebrate now Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  19. I’m planning to. How do you do it? Last year my buddy buried his for a year and then dug it up. It looks pretty good.
