My 1st guns were a 22cal & a 410ga, both single shots. Isn't that Browning a heavy gun to carry for a youngster?? I know my Light 12 is heavy.

Who has bird feeders, and what interesting birds have you had
nyslowhand replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Over-heard a BS session in the local diner a few days ago talking about feeders for a variety of birds. Found it unusual that some were attracting and feeding Balt Oriels with oranges and jellies. Gents were also discussing a certain variety of sparrow that hijacks nests and will kill other species of birds. Showed how little I actually know about birds!!!! -
Shouldn't be anything startling or new about this survey's summary. Similar legit survey(s) taken over past ~5yrs have shown the same findings. I do find the "Method" (who got surveys) outlined within the above link to be sort of questionable &/or limiting.

Have read about this in the news and read the lyrics, but have yet to find the video clip from this episode. All fun and games until someone's feelings get hurt..... Hard to dispute the facts even if only mocked in a Simpson's parody.

Like G-Man implied, gotta have balanced Os & Ds. If the Bills don't provide protection for Allen, then he'll become another Rosen story. Conversely, if a team can't stop the opposition from scoring at will, the offense/QB is already put at a disadvantage. So BIZ, whatz your crystal ball foresee..?

Better off spending 2hrs watching the movie Draft Day than trying to out-think your favorite team's picks over many hours & days of boring speculative commentary. Just never know how a draftee will adapt to the NFL's play, fit in with new teammates &/or coaches and esp how they'll handle their newly found riches as a 20-21yo! Wait 'n' see!

Exactly, my own philosophy on lawn maintenance! Fun cutting the grass, maybe the 1st 2-3X. After that it's a hassle and I can't wait for the "brown lawn" season JMO, I'm not playing the "Keeping Up With The Jones" game!

Hoping not to rain on your parade, but do wish you an enjoyable and successful hunt!!! A bison hunt was always on my bucket list... Until I actually watched a few of these hunts on TV shows. Appears as more of slaking a herd of cows on the prairie and your Native American guide selecting what bison to shoot. Admittedly, a bow or Xbow hunt might be different than using a long gun!! At least for me a bison hunt was taken off my bucket list. Although I would enjoy a sort of photo taking experience more than killing one. Would be interested in hearing from some one that has actually experienced a bison hunt!

^^^ Kind of what I was referring to. More urban or upscale suburbia vet clinics can be expensive. I use one in a more rural area that are every bit as good as the fancier clinics and more economical. If I had to pay a vet for a usual check-up visit what DRs & DDSs charge (w/o insurance), wouldn't have a pet!

Lets see if I get this 200 day gestation math correct. The typical or main November rut conceived fawns are usually born late May or so. So.. if a fawn was conceived during any subsequent Dec, Jan rut activities - they could be born in late July, early August. Have to imagine one of these later birthed fawns would have a very short period of bountiful food sources available and have a hard time surviving the winter being so young. Obviously, they can per the photo evidence!! Eddie, you'll have to contact Bill Nye the science guy, but I don't think deer are prone to dwarfism. Ground shrinkage maybe...

The cost of vet services vary wildly, mainly depending on where you're located. I know people that travel 50-60 miles to see a vet in a more rural area simply to save several hundred dollars on dental work &/or surgeries. ALL vets have similar credentials, some have very poor "bedside manners", many clinics are paying for a fancy building, an extensive staff &/or equipment, blah, blah. If your vet suggests a trip to Cornell's Vet school for surgery, diagnosis or a simple consultation for your pet - $$$!

Alex Rodriquez will dump JLO, un-retire, sign his 3rd $300M contract and get busted (again) for PEDs.

^^^ Yeah, me too, some years slightly later though. Has always been the case forever (?), Xbow season or before it's intro. BTW - Saw where there is some bill that was introduced for youths and 62+yo hunters allowing use of Xbows during Special Vertical Bow season. Whatever that season is!??! That'd make me a happy camper if it were for entire bow season. Of course the bill is stalled in the dreaded Enviro sub-committee.

You can take a beating on the ole body & equipment using a rototiller on previously untilled, hard-packed ground. You'll enjoy the garden much more if you pay someone with a small tractor to plow or PTO till up the ground first/once.

^^ Maybe, but JMO has partially to due with long gun hunters jumping onto the extra time in the woods with a Xbow. NO special training, bow hunting ed or license required, simply buy a Xbow & hunt. Have personally heard some horror stories by those taking up Xbow hunting that have no clue what bow hunting is all about. Whether you're pro or con on this issue, have to admit bow & gun hunting are two completely different "beasts" or skill sets!! I wouldn't call a one year's drop in Xbow harvest by 8% a trend, just yet!

The deafening silence from NYCC is not encouraging. Last I heard (~Jan.) was they had to re-write new legislation to submit, nothing since! The individual from NYCC that had kept us informed in the past has NOT visited this forum since Aug 2018!?! There isn't anything on their website other than the solicitation for filling out a support (form) letter. No news or updates! Been eerily quiet this year!!!! I'm trying hard to assume there are activities going on behind the scenes, be nice to know!!!! Hell, I'm not even sure there are any legislators that are supporting this any more...? Any one know more..? FYI - I will have mods lock this topic if it turns into yet another pro vs con debate. Been enough of those debates already, right!

If you think common "given names" in today's world is interesting, do some ancestry searches. I found that way out on certain branches of my family tree they had way less imagination than in today's world. Lot of carrying-over of certain names of previous male predecessors. Gets confusing when a whole family tree branch consists of ancestors named Richard, Thomas, etc.

I've never scored any deer on an inches basis! Use my own personal "WOW" scale.

Agree, but.. Have to look past the possible shady college recruitment practices, potential spoon feeding the players their academia, endorsement money and the "one and done" typical phenomenon. Then there's the fact most major (sports) colleges pay their BB coaches more than the Dean of the college...!?! And now the NBA wants to lower the draft age eligibility from 19yo to 18yo. Not to mention the movement to get college athletes a paid wage/salary and full scholarship. All this has turned me off!!! Famous Jerry Maguire movie line - Show me the money!

Definitely a biased opinion... Webster has a lot to offer, but just a few miles east is Ontario and 10/12mi east is Williamson, rents probably will be cheaper and still a quick trip on Rte104 to Webster (& Rochester) area. Like everywhere, there are certain areas or apt complexes to avoid!
-
Not a game I watched, but sounded exciting! Was glad to see teams make championship game other that usual college BB power-houses. IE; UK, ND, USC, UM, etc. May give the Buffalo team that got knocked out of the tournament in 2nd round by Texas Tech some ... relief for their defeat.

In the past ~4/5yrs all Xbow bills had been stripped out of the budget. They then stood as lone bills and died a slow death every year. Been eerily quite on the NYCC front this year!! Last I heard was that NYCC had to rewrite a new Xbow bill, IRC around the January time frame.

Here in lies one of the loop-holes in service dog regulations along with the "don't ask" grey area. It's cheaper to have a small dog sit on your lap aboard a plane, pretend it's your service dog than to pay more $$ to actually have it crated & put into cargo area. Ruins it for people that actually require a service dog!!!

Lot of 9mm ammo that can out perform 40cal with less "snappiness". IRC, the FBI is going back to 9MM for those very reasons and quicker target acquisition on repeat shots..!?! Anyways, looks like a great deal!
