  1. On a broadside shot, I line the vertical crosshair up with the front leg, raise up until the horizontal crosshair is 1/3 to 1/2 the distance from brisket to back, and trip the trigger. Most often I hit the heart, and if a little high/back the lungs...Both good..The deer may run a bit but will not go far and will usually leave a good blood trail.
  2. It might be a bit of a drive for you ( appx 1/2 hour west of Elmira), but Joe Seeley in Campbell is a talented gunsmith. He does everything from routine repair work to stock checkering and fine engraving. 607-527-8470.
  3. That picture was taken opening day of the first turkey season in Steuben County.. I'm in the front row, second from the left.
  4. There is no restriction for a semi auto shotgun either EXCEPT for hunting big game or migratory birds With a pump you can load as many rounds as your gun holds for big game or small game. Max rounds in any semi auto for big game is 6...Max rounds for migratory birds ( except crows and early season geese) is 3 for any firearm. No rifles or pistols allowed for migratory birds. Hope this helps.
  5. Several posters here, including myself, affirmed his right to voice his opinion. WE, on the same note, have a right to criticize his actions. YOU are the one who is pissing and moaning now. You hypocritical liberals make me sick. OH, excuse me...You no longer call yourselves liberals..You are PROGRESSIVES now, because you feel that term is more positive , and you hope that it draws attention away from your desire to take money from the people who EARNED it and give it to the ones who don't deserve it.
  6. How about that joker refusing to stand during the National Anthem ? AS reprehensible as I find this behavior, it is a free country and I fully support his right to refuse to stand if he does not want to. However, the fans have a right to express their feelings also..I hope they boo the a**hole off the field the next time he appears.
  7. Not owning a truck requires immediate revocation of your Man Card... Growie, you get a gender mandated pass on this one...<<grin>>.....

    Huge duck

WOW, TF, I am glad REAL ducks aren't that big...You'd get a hernia carrying the DECOYS ... Of course, you'd only have to shoot one duck and you'd have enough meat for the whole year...
  9. Defintely stealth boxes for coyotes and pumacougars.. They are small because the spooks prefer to stock juveniles rather than adults because the younger animals adapt better to their new environment than adults. I got this information directly from a guy who knows the second cousin of the chief agent of the BOCSORA.... Bureau Of Covert Stocking Of Restricted Animals... The good news is that not ALL of this is funded by taxpayers/sportsmen's money...Insurance companys buy the stealth boxes and pay a portion of the fuel expenses for the black stealth helicopters that deliver the "goods" , as they call them in the business..
  10. They are stealth boxes that the DEC uses to release all of those coyotes and pumacougars... The wildlife spooks just forgot to clean up after themselves.
  11. I think they they both did, Stubby. By the way, Jaeger said in a previous post that his 7600 still has a 22" barrel. You could probably fix that for him.. Still got that hacksaw ?
  12. Real PURTY, Dan.... Those porcupine quills make good floats for panfishing, too !
  13. I agree with that...All 4 of my Leupolds were bought used, and I have had ZERO problems with them....The most I paid for one was $160... And if I DID have a problem with one, I could send it into the factory and get it fixed or replaced, despite the fact that I did not buy it new. There are quite a few good scopes on the market, but you can't go wrong with a Leupold.
  14. Put it on your Blaser...They're weird looking any way, so it couldn't hurt it....<<GRIN>>.... It would give it a genuine EUROPEAN look....
  15. Quarter them up and pack them out on a packframe...Beats hell out of dragging.
  16. I currently have 2 Burris and 4 Leupolds. All good scopes and never had a minute's problem with any of them. Back when I bought the Burris they were the only scope on the market that was 100% American made..At the time Leupold was all American except the glass. They bought their glass from whomever could meet their specs.. Things may have changed since then, that was 20 + years ago...
  17. I'd LOVE to go, Nick, but I have a tentative trip to North Carolina about that time that I have already committed to...
  18. I see it's heading my way, Chris...Unless it breaks up before it gets here, as they sometimes do.
  19. Why it's a little snapper... I was always fond of small snappers.
  20. OUCH...!... Glad there was no tendon damage. I have been known to use a 20 gauge with #9 shot to trim branches just a little out of reach. Works pretty good and you won't get cut ....
  21. Holy crap, TF, will you marry me ?? Between the two of us, we'd both weigh 300 lbs. apiece after six months !
  22. I just got exclusive permission on a farm with several hundred acres of fields, plus about a mile of river frontage. My contact, the landowner's "agent" who controls access to the property, lives right there, so it should be fairly easy to make field decoy setups on the X.... I can't hunt opening day due to a couple of medical appts, but that ain't a big deal in this kind of hunting. I have had good luck in the past with 2-4 dozen decoys ( plus flagging and calling) as long as I am set up on the X...Where the geese want to land. This will be my first season that there is no 3 shot limit..I have always wanted to have a flock of honkers 20 yards overhead with 5 shells in the gun.....<< big GRIN >>.....
