Nope, not whining, just refuting your constant claim around here that hunting is all about the "horns". It absolutely isn't for more people than you will ever realize.
-
Yes, I would put you in as one of those guys. You seem to push AR's more than anyone else around here, and then you show little sympathy for the guy in the original article here who got fined and had the deer taken away. Like that extra one inch point that buck needed on his head to be legal made one ounce of difference in the scheme of deer management? Come on, please stop the nonsense!
-
Like I said, you guys are perfect and couldn't possibly ever make a mistake or God-forbid ever admit to one. And of course everyone must abide to your philosophies about what they should or shouldn't shoot at. Happy hunting!!
-
Some of you guys just kill me. It seems like some of you guys think you are so perfect that you could measure a bucks tine length and spread down to the millimeter from 200+ yards away. I call BS on that. Also, very easy to tell someone else that they shouldn't shoot at a deer if they are not 100% sure if you aren't THAT hunter. Like everyone is hunting 8 hours a day the entire bow and gun season like some of you here? And when a buck does come along will it just stand still in one clear spot for you for a half and hour just posing for you so you can look at it from all angles? Yeah right. You guys must hunt some dumb ass bucks, because typically any sized buck I've ever seen didn't stick around too long. Maybe some of you guys are hunting in Four Seasons Whitetail's pen or something?? You could probably measure them with a tape measure in there. LOL

I understand it's the law, but I think the fine here was excessive. He was hunting 40 yards from his house, so he could have easily just waited until nightfall and dragged the deer back to his garage and not told anyone anything. Law enforcement would have never known a thing. He instead was honest and all he got was a steep fine and even had the deer taken away from him. I could understand a lesser monetary summons being given to him, but having the deer taken away just doesn't seem right in this particular scenario. Law is the law, I understand that, but law enforcement needs to take some things into consideration sometimes. Not everyone who breaks a law does it intentionally or with malice. Sometimes it can be an honest mistake which I would say is what happened here.

I don't think you should be giving Cuomo any ideas. He'd be more than happy to claim that bowhunters only could get the job done on deer so that he could try to eliminate hunting guns also. That said, I don't think your statement that bowhunters accounted for 40% of the total deer kill is accurate. According to the attached figures in 2016 there were 46,735 deer taken during bow season out of a total take of 213,000. That doesn't come out to 40%. It closer to half that. Granted that hunting in Westchester and LI during regular season is with bow, and that some people hunt with bow during the gun season, but that still won't get you to anywhere near 40%. If bowhunters were so good in getting deer numbers down in the month and a half before gun season starts in the southern zone, the gun hunters wouldn't have nearly the success they do. The facts are that bowhunters alone would NEVER kill nearly the numbers that would be needed in many areas of the state.

Well, that completely changes the situation if he is only 15. Legally he can't own a gun yet. My suggestion would be to just hold the gun for him and don't transfer to him until he is 18 if he doesn't live with you or have someone with firearms experience in his household. You can still let him shoot it when you are with him hunting or at a range.

Yes, the blade is on the wrong way, but I still can't figure out why everything is popping out on you? You still haven't described how the plate and blade get held into the grinder? Does that retaining piece get screwed on? If it does I can't understand why the plate and blade pop out, because it shouldn't no matter if the blade is on right or backwards.
-
That's exactly what I was going to say. Never saw a machine without a screw on plate and blade retainer. Crappy are you sure you have installed that properly? I've had an inexpensive Cabelas grinder for a bunch of years now and it does the job without issue. No need to buy a $300 machine if you only use it for a deer or two a year and occasionally for other meat in my opinion.

The one and only.

Sorry for your loss. That's incredible! To live to be 106!! I see people everyday who are broken down in their 40's and 50's(many from of their own self abuse), and he lives to be 106. That is quite an accomplishment!! He definitely did something right.
-
Maybe we'd get your shoe in our face and see parts of you that we'd rather not, but it still wouldn't be as bad as taking a bullet!!
-
I've seen plenty of people walking on to hunt public land during GUN season in full camo without a stitch of orange on them. They trust their fellow man a hell of a lot more than I do, that's for darned sure!
-
If he has the tags for them, he can kill any damned sized deer he wants quite honestly. If you don't like it, that's your problem not his. Some of you clowns really do have a set of nads knocking someone for killing a deer that he has every right to kill if he so desires. He, myself and others may suck as hunters, but at least we don't suck as much as some of you clowns who have no class or character.
-
So BUrt, you thought I was giving you $#!+, huh? LOL Wait until the others pile it on you here. You would have been better off telling your sins to a priest in a confessional booth. Worst you would have gotten is maybe 10 "Our Fathers" and 10 " Hail Mary's" and that would include all your other sins you probably don't want to share with us. Now you are being labeled a lawbreaker, baiter and a poacher here! LOL
-
My apologies for the misspelling. To get it right I'll try to remember the word "burp" next time I need to spell your name. LOL
-
i'm sorry, Bert. With admitted sins like that, hell will only be getting fuller when you kick the bucket!
-
I am nuts for not being after the biggest buck I can find?? You are full of yourself and full of $#!+. That's really the only reply I could give you here.
-
I wish I had a dollar for every time you've said this on this forum. It was false the first time you said it and it still is this time. Yeah, some guys go crazy over antlers, but I can assure you it's nowhere near 99%. Most people are smart enough to realize they will probably never meet up with a monster buck with the limited time they can devote to hunting. The majority of hunters are happy to get any deer at all, me being one of them. You want to believe it's 99% since big antlers are your livelihood, but I can assure you it's not.
-
I'm just not seeing all this rampant killing on wives, kids, etc. tags where the DEC would want or need to have all deer checked into check stations. I think this is a figment of some peoples imaginations. Hell, people are barely hunting for deer with their OWN tags so I just don't see this mass killing on other peoples tags. Not like the state will go thru the expense and logistics of setting up check stations for the few clowns out there who may be taking a deer or two with someone else's tag.
-
Why would you consider that punishment? I actually like Christmas music. I can give Bing Crosby a run for his money with my version of "White Christmas"!
-
Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. Lots of big woods, not too many deer. Not to say you couldn't kill one there, but it won't be easy compared to a number of regions in NYS and elsewhere.
-
Exactly how would mailing tags in be better than the phone in reporting we have today? Not everyone would mail in tags just like many don't report by phone these days. It would boil down to the same $#!+. And no way is NYS going to start check in stations. Not feasible in so many ways. I highly doubt there are too many gas stations or small markets in NYS who want bloody deer carcasses rolling in from October- December freaking out a good many of their customers. Simply won't happen! The majority of states out there DON'T have check in stations so I see NO good reason for NYS to start them either.

Pygmy will subscribe to it only if there is a centerfold picture.
