  1. Sorry, I'm a bit slow today... so you are saying you can effectively "turn them off" by placing them into a zip lock bag? Huh...

  3. I actually thought about breaking it down and doing exactly that, maybe that's the way to go. The Pex tip is great! Thanks!
  4. Well there goes that theory... I guess I'll find out in a few days if the center support was a good idea or not.
  5. I used a paint roller extension pole that I had laying around the garage. I used some dental impression material to make a blunt end that moulded to my center hub perfectly and around the threads of the pole. I can just unscrew the end and use it again next year.
  6. I have a Barronett Big Cat out on our property now. It is my first blind and I like it a lot. A few weeks ago the roof hub caved in with about 10" of heavy snow, I shoveled it out, popped the center back up and nothing was damaged. There had to be 100lbs of snow on it and the sides did not collapse. I have since installed a better center support. Fingers crossed it holds up over the next 36 hours.
  7. I have a few Stanley's in varying sizes and a Thermos brand that all work really well when pre-heated. I also have a couple of Yeti Ramblers and I have to say, they just defy all logic when it comes to keeping liquid hot. OP said your looking for a gift...get a Yeti. They're not that much more and it is a quality gift.
  8. I’ll be carrying a Browning X-Bolt for sure...now to decide blonde or brunette. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I’ll add that I have learned to stay away from anything cotton that holds moisture and also got a pair of Arctic Shield boot blankets this year, they do work. I have been wearing lighter more comfortable boots with a light wool sock, put the boot blanket on in the stand and good to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. When it gets cold I wear Cabela’s MT050 parka and bibs, underneath I wear a thin UA-type base layer and Cabela’s thermal zone stand hunter base layer over that. That’s it. I also use a couple of adhesive body warmer hot hands on the inside of the parka. I’m warm as can be, I am done freezing in the stand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Varysburg. It was really coming down! The ride hime, west on 20A, was not fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Visibility down to about 50 yards and the winds are starting to howl here. Im packing it in already. Saw two small bucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Snow is really coming down now, wind is beginning to kick up. I could get used to this blind hunting... nice and toasty! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Calm in Wyoming County, sitting in the blind for the first time. Planning on staying until the winds kick up. Had a 6 and a 4 pass by at 50 yards while typing this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Sous vide venison back straps were a success! Our First time doing these this way...delicious! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. My son and I both had deer on the ground 200 yards apart, 10 minutes after getting to our stands on Sunday morning. It was the most amazing thing, we arrived lated, bumped 3 on the way in and didnt even have time to really get settled when the action began and texts started flying! I shot a doe and he arrowed this this big 8 at 22 yards, nose to the ground hot on the trail of the few we bumped only a few minutes before. I swear it is the fattest heaviest buck I have ever seen, taxidermist is keeping the jaw to age it. His first words were “oh man thats an old deer!” My son said he was shaking so bad, like never before and thought for sure he would blow it, but pulled it together! I couldnt be more happy for him! For size reference, he is 6’2” 220... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Rain and snow, so no... and it was a 50 yard shot and he was preoccupied with a doe. BUT, i really believe the noise is only a factor to us when we are standing under it. Oh these Bills are killing me!!! F’ing interception!!!!??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Yep. Shot this guy under one last year. It may be loud to you but rain is noisy everywhere in the woods. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Grampy is correct. I spoke with NAP and they told me they will not open in flight unless you're shooting something crazy fast, but I am fine at 350fps and I do not need to buy the crossbow specific heads. Thanks for all the input and good luck this weekend!
  20. Are you using the crossbow specific head or the regular Killzone?
  21. Oh I am not arguing or saying they are not great heads. They ARE and I killed a few deer with them myself, not nearly 55 though! I was the biggest fan ever of Grim Reapers and it was hard for me to change. I am one who really does believe any head will work if you put it in the right place, maybe I'll give the 1 3/8's a try again! First I have to find a deer though... seemingly impossible for me this year.
  22. Yes, I knew there were differences in CB heads which is why I am asking, in this case it seems they are identical and I have a bunch of regular Spitfire Maxx heads so I don't want to buy more if I don't have to. I am a huge fan of the Spitfire and Killzone broadheads (There are no bands these heads), I have shot them for years, for me they are the most accurate and consistent heads. I have a stockpile and have no problem burning one to make sure they are on with field points. I have never seen the NAPs on sale for those prices (please send me info!), and can't find the crossbow heads at Cabela's, Dicks (ugh) or Gander locally, again, this is why I am trying to determine if I can use the regular heads. Regular ones $40 and $45 at Cabela's right now. I am going to respectfully disagree on the GR comparison. I shot the GR's for many years, killed many deer with them, I loved them. Blew through a few shoulders with them myself and was always amazed at the blood trails. BUT, I had one Whitetail Special ferrule bend 90° and fall out of a deer on a poorly placed shoulder shot. It literally bounced off of the deer. When we picked up that arrow were were in shock, that head was bent 90° and blades were gone. Never again. (that post is around somewhere) Of course Grim reaper offered to replace it... big deal. They had no comment on the failure though other than they had some manufacturing challenges. Sorry, not bashing a great head, but I had a bad experience and won't use them again.
  23. Great! Thank you for the replies.
