  1. I finally decided to get a crossbow! I have zero experience with them, but managed to sight it in quickly and am planning on hunting with it next week. My question is – Can I use regular NAP Spitfire Broadheads in a crossbow? I have read in many different places that there is no difference between the crossbow version and the regular version of this particular head. If anyone here shoots them you know they are very tight and do not open easily, so I somewhat believe that is the case. Can anyone confirm or comment on that? I have a few packages of these heads and am a big fan, I don't want to spend another $45 on heads if I don't have to, and I can't find them locally. I did email NAP so maybe they will get back to me. Any input is much appreciated.
  2. I just picked up a crossbow on Saturday and I am finally excited about something this season! I have had no real interest in these things, but bought one on a whim this weekend. After shooting it for a few minutes I am really impressed, it's fun, stupid accurate and holy crap do these things hit hard. I'm off next week so I'm going to give it a try.
  3. I'm actually thinking of taking off early today to try to avoid the traffic. I live south of the city and work north of the city, this will be two hour ride home for sure today.
  4. I drove down to Pittsburgh over the weekend and the hills were very muted in color with a lot of green mixed in. It looked very strange, like a photo filter was over the landscape. The local channel 2 weather guy in Buffalo did a segment on this a couple of weeks ago. He said the precipitation levels combined with warmer temps and lack of sunlight during September were going to cause a very dull and unimpressive fall like we have never seen. It seems he was correct.
  5. It really is a sweet set up! I wanted to hold onto the rest and sight, but like everything, it's negotiable if anyone is interested. Someone out there needs a really fast, really accurate, like-new bow for 1/4 the cost of a new one!
  6. I'll include 6 brand new NAP broad heads as well. 3 Spitfires and 3 Killzones. Bow, quiver, arrows and heads $300.
  7. With Axis arrows... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Selling my X-Force GX. Great bow, I have taken a lot of deer with it, it is in excellent condition, new string and cable, still one of the fasted bows out there at 353fps. 60lbs / 29 in. Selling the bow and PSE quiver ONLY. $300 local only- I’m in western New York, Buffalo area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I'm kinda bummed this year as well. My sons, and hunting partners, both started new jobs this year and have no real time to go. I'm just not that excited to do it alone anymore. We have been out three times, but no shot opportunities. I am planning on taking a week off in November to bow hunt, and another for rifle, but it won't be the same and I almost think I will looking for things to do around the house and out to dinners with my wife as much as spending time in the stands. I guess it's a transitional year for me in some ways.
  10. Steve Rinella and Jim Shockey are the only ones I watch anymore. Currently watching the latest season of Meat Eater on Netflix, even my wife enjoys it! And she usually heads for another room and the Hallmark channel whenever I turn on a hunting show!
  11. Only weekends until first week in November, plan on bow hunting from the 3rd through the 11th, then off opening week of rifle. I'll take a few random days here and there if I'm feeling it.
  12. I have shot deer hours after placing a stand, I'm moving two ladder stands on Saturday after the morning hunt.
  13. Oh I used to LOVE those apple pies! These days it's Clif bars and Gatorades while in the stand for me.
  14. Back to the original post, I'm curious if there was a vehicle parked nearby. Actually, no I'm not, I don't really care, but I know if I am small game hunting on public land I always assume the vehicles belong to bowhunters and move down the road so as not to screw up their hunt. I can't imagine being pissed at someone else using the area.
  15. I am using all ladders now. I really miss the climber and will probably pick up a new one at some point. I appreciate the ladder stands more and more as I get older, but you can't beat the mobility and comfort of a Summit climber.
  16. I just read all of this and feel like I'm already drinking...
  17. Creek was high but passable, i had a skunk directly under me at daybreak, thank God I didnt run into him on the way in! Light rain, calm and warm now. No deer... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Scary stuff

Both of those were at East Otto State Forest, maybe 15 years ago. I have had hundreds of great interactions with other hunters, we all have of course, but there were a couple of guys back then that were a real problem in that area. The DEC was looking for them and the locals knew about them, not sure what ever happened. I mostly hunted private property that bordered the state land so I stayed on my side. Regardless, this guys said the shooter was 20 yards away in a climber, they could SEE each other. Accident?

    Scary stuff

I have never considered wearing orange during archery season and can't imagine how it would have made a difference here. Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't believe for one second that the guy didn't know he was shooting at two people. My bet is that it was intentionally done to scare them off of "his" spot. When I was young I spent a lot of time hunting state land in Cattaraugus county and came across a couple of jerks like this. Once I saw a guy and his wife with a shotgun pointed at another hunter, going off about "their" spot. I once had shots fired in my direction after someone told me I was to stay out of his area of state land. I think that guy was trying to scare them off. I hope they catch him.
  20. I would bet it happens to all of us a lot more than we realize. There are a lot of idiots out there.

    peep size

This is how I have always done it.
  22. I personally would be more concerned with not being able to see or shoot without them. I wore glasses for a few years while hunting and that thought never even crossed my mind. I now wear multifocal contacts and love them.

I also center the housing in the peep. Pin on target.
  24. I'll be out. I prefer not to take time off of work until later in the month, but one of my boys is itching to go so I said I'd join him.
