  1. Dump the welfare addicts, raise the political standards a tad so douchetards like clinton, cuomo, & bloomberg don't get their start here, then lets talk. Otherwise its just a place, I'm here trying to make a living and the best of it.
  2. Involve the government in what to do on my property - hey, what a great idea.
  3. So I picked up 1/2 dozen highbush blueberry from walmart 4$ a piece in the small plant pots not bagged. And was kind of surprised to see two oaks in the line up of trees they had. 1 pin 1 red, picked them up & planted them as a sort of experiment to see how well they will do. They were both about 5' so I'm going to guess 4 years on them? All 10 apple trees showing life even the one that looked like it wasn't going to make it now has a few small buds. They were 2-year transplants. Looked like something maybe a bird tried to make a shallow ground nest in the dirt/mulch build up around one of them. Guess it's time to break out the game cams.
  4. If anyone plants trees and all you need is some extra dirt/fill & a shovel consider yourself lucky. The ground on the property is carpeted with roots, plenty of rocks & shale. I had to use a custom made ice breaker bar to chip - bust up the holes to plant. In most spots I picked out where the skidder went through there was shallow ruts I made use of but you still had to bust up the ground. Then there's getting the material & tools to the sites. Didn't seem like the job was going to end for a while. Paced it out over the whole weekend. Made use of a wheelbarrow but with most of the paths still soggy & rough more then one bag of top soil & mulch at a time wasn't worth it. Tell you what I'm not going to plan on any more trees until I iron out the paths a bit with some fill and the tractor/bucket. Oh yeah & the black flies were insane, had to work with a face net in the sun, good times. My boots stink. Ok I feel better now.
  5. I was just wondering how red flashing/blinking lights would deter a bird of prey, interesting. Led I imagine.
  6. Well my trees arrived today from north40 by FedeX. They are packaged up nice got some extra storage tips from a friend at work with some property, because it'll be a few days until I can get them all in the ground.
  7. Lots of pins but nice looking sight.
  8. Perhaps a local Archery shop could put you in contact with one.
  9. Does your cell get reception on the property? If not I'd suggest a tracfone or straight talk by zip code. And hit the dec site for a list of dec officers who 'cover' that area.
  10. If you enjoy hunting with other people I don't see what the big deal is. Honestly I don't or prefer hunting alone when it comes to deer season. Turkey season is another story, I mean I like calling in a bird for a jr hunter or friend if I can, good times. Maybe the guy is a duck hunter or enjoys good company fishing as well. edit to add; I bet there would be different responses if this was a Wisconsin forum.
  11. So if you have property or camp anywhere where black flies, gnats, mosquitoes are bad check out this article; http://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/story/24572/20140421/hate-black-flies-hug-this-woman I pick up & use a few dunk tabs but that gets expensive after a time, hold up whats the active ingredient; BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis). Started looking into more bulk options and found some links I thought might interest others here, in the never ending battle. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=bti+mosquito&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=30944304021&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9160942690707596181&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_8nfw8l7534_b http://www.gemplers.com/product/G77202/20-lbs-Mosquito-Bits?gclid=CIDrhIjs-70CFWdk7AodjA8ALQ&sku=G77202&CID=25SEPLA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=G77202&ef_id=UlwOKQAAAP@RnTMF20140425142639s#TAB-INFO
  12. Apparently, Bears in Canada like their trees.
  13. Last weekend I took a walk on the property (6k Tug Hill area) & checked the plots. All the clover is starting to come up. They were turned and replanted last year with a chicory mix. Hoping that pays off.
  14. TheFieldArcher; just wanted to comment on the first post-video - about 2:30 you show what seems like a handy device to draw back - load the X. Wasn't a few years ago I saw a demo of a few X's where loading them looked like a struggle, and one pse model with a crank that made more noise then a lawn mower. I thought man, there's got to be a better way. It may be you included that clip by chance but to me I wouldn't consider an X if there wasn't a reasonable - quiet way to make ready. Figured that was a worthy mention. And then I thought after all the lead up this guy is just going to shoot another squirrel.
  15. Never heard of that before today. Reminds me to work on a fence plan for my garden, friggin woodchucks & rabbits.
  16. `06 opener 11pnt scored around 138 if memory serves. 12ga smoothbore. Wasn't into Archery back then, taking that buck with a Bow would be orgasmic.
  17. Good lord, today's world seems to be geared to sterilize a child's life. Two words, 'Dog Breath'. Kids will think that's funny and deal with it.
  18. Just wondering if there's a Sunbelt rental near you. Before I picked up my Ariens I rented frankintiller from them.
  19. I am still getting used to making my own and it's actually rewarding in a sense. Using the natural casings, alright well keeping them from tearing isn't as easy as one might think. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong. Sticking to kielbasa style links seems to help for now. But I want to get into making breakfast links as the price of bacon is getting obnoxious.
  20. Yeah well I don't buy all that either. You may believe into what your saying, and that's fine. I'm not saying yotes are responsible for herd or fawn reduction. But they play an active part. Granted they certainly are opportunistic and most of the time I see or run into yotes or their activity they are alone.
  21. I really want to say I bet she was up from Ithaca - haha just kidding. Friend of mine has a lease near Dryden, more like Harford good Turkey hunting there.
  22. Nice pics alloutdoors, were you using a call at all to keep them around?
