  1. Very unfortunate. Most freezers are out of sight - out of mind and we tend to forget how much we depend on them.
  2. Reincarnation - in it's former life that deer was a scrapper who likes cats.
  3. A few years ago I wanted to make sure I'd have a back up in case my battery in the Jeep died at camp. Well, that never happened but if so it would be a long walk down a dirt road to any kind of civilization. I have an interest in solar and installer background so it didn't take long to realize and use the potential of solar energy. Quiet power, reserve power, no noisy genney running or extra fuel required, no fumes. The price of lantern fuel is nutz, & what 6$ for a set of 1lb propane canisters. Then there's ice - what's that have to do with anything - well there's the cost and a few bags of ice will only last so long. The solar system eliminates the ice issue, no more soggy foods, gone is the extra plastic & metal trash. The older I get, I've found the more that bothers me. Anyhow if you got 10 minutes - enjoy.
  4. Nice neck on that buck - few meals right there damn. Imo if anyone wants to buy something from BPS whatever but I'd buy it online - all to many times they never have sale items in stock. edit to add: online that cam is available for back-order haha
  5. WesternNY; that's a nice plot. Martinhunter; the thing about clover and chicory is not to plant it to deep, & try to ensure the soil ph is 6.5 or better. Clover seems to be tolorent to some shade, good stuff. Oh yeah & if you use a chicory mix & any weed killer don't use spectracide it has a broadleaf killer with half life.
  6. Good move on the apple trees, & the perogies. Sat. at camp seemed to be a good day for plot work. Expanding plots, a pick axe & sludge take out a few old stumps. The tiller will still have it's work cut out for it with the ground I'm working with.
  7. Congratulations. The ultrasound pic reminds my of my WGI cams.
  8. When I didn't have private land i got to know a bunch of wma/state land spots. I still hit them now and then and much like this year they give me a reason to go back.
  9. Indeed. I typically do day runs into the SZ & hit a few fav's in Spring Turkey. Last year I got a nice Tom on my lease in 6k. But imo there's just not as many birds in my part of the NZ. Maybe halving the season or take in some zones would benefit the local flocks but so would good habit and predator control. Take a look at the agriculture, number of farms and or type of crops grown around where you typically hunt. I don't mean go out and physically look but consider their impact. We can grow a few plots here and there & this is beneficial but it's like comparing a fast food stop to a supermarket. I wonder what a season would be like if it was based on such things.

    Bales of Hay

Instead of hay or straw bales, how about a free block target that'll stop broadheads? Tractor Supply has their trailers shipped in on foam blocks, allot of their stores stack them on pallets out back. They are happy to give them away. Pick up 9 of them, block them 3x3 with a ratchet strap. ps they also have ratchet straps.
  11. A few thoughts on this video; 1. Notice the annoying advertisement up front that omits any volume control on the player. 2. Some nice bucks 20:20, & up including the freak rack around 20:45, that would be some mahogany to see that in season, just sayin` 3. Cover for bedding not to far from your plots of feeding areas can be just as important as healthy plots.
  12. Turning two plots. & expanding both a tad. In fact going to turn the main plot twice over a two week period double pass each time with the rear tine tiller to kill off the rye grass.
  13. I'm using the 'silence' of one area as a reason to hunt another I've been meaning to check out. You never know.
  14. Allergies - sinus cold put me out of business for the most part over last week - weekend. But I'm off to try and fill tag 2 Friday. Then much like phade mentioned to many other things on the plate.
  15. The older I get the less stuff I want to carry along, just what I need. A climber on the other hand, or over your back I should say has become one of those things for day runs on state land / wma spots. Having said that you can't always get up into a good spot with a climber. So a set of sticks and a hang on it is. Back to the getting older thing, maybe thats what it is, but seriously who wants to carry all that jazz in and out of the woods all the while. Frackin not me. So these days that set up is for a more temp & testing spots on my lease before I set up a ladder or something more permanent. Other then that if I find a nice spot but can't get into it with what I got, I hunt elsewhere, that's all there is to it.
  16. Rabbits seem to like them to, little snots.
  17. Arn't jerky guns limited to 7lb canisters now?
  18. A clover / clover mix would probably work if the soil is in decent shape. Maybe two bags designed for 1/2 acre for a little overseeding. Then save up for a trail cam. Edit to add: avoid any mix with ryegrass.
  19. I'm sure PA has good birds. Used to hear from some friends in PA about them and lots of does, the no Sunday thing etc.
