    Bear

Never seen a bear at the DMV in my neck of the woods Sorry just having fun. Seriously considering a bear hunt next year but i don't know alot about it. Probably would be very cool to see one, it's contrast up close.
  2. Well I can answer that from past experience - recent events however you want to think of it. I mean anyone can come up with a flat yardage answer but I think consideration and line of sight compound the answer, safety is more of a constant and end result. And, the other hunter comming into the area may not even be looking for you. In 09 I hit a fav wma in the climber, thinking being up would be safer and it gave me the line of sight advantage. Before noon I spotted another hunter moving in by the edge of a feild. I, was up in a tree but about 80 yards away. Both of us had some orange but he never looked up and didn't see me. And if he did, didn't care when he picked a spot. Well i saw a doe tool through past him but looking at the land and him being on the ground he never saw it. Then about an hour later another guy walks just about under my stand, what a tool I thought and 20 minutes later he walked by right back and asked for directions being completely lost. Not quite an hour later I spot a nice 7pnt making it's way through kind of behind me. This allowed me time to stand, secure a line of sight/shot lane away from where anyone else - the other hunter was and I took a safe shot. I would imagine the noise starlted anyone close by, if memory serves that was the first year rifle was allowed in that area of 7m.
  3. I tend to hit a few fav. wma-state land spots now and then, it can pay off. Nice buck & good hunting!

    Mount repair

Got an mount a few years old, the ears are splitting apart. I would like to get this fixed if possible. Thought maybe I could use glue & some clamps but if I try to press an ear back together it feels like it'll break. Gut who did the work is gone, would any taxidermist be able to fix this?
  5. Where have you people been? The 'Opener' was like 2 months ago.
  6. A 7 & 2 does down with the PSE, bunch of good camping. Can't complain.
  7. Honestly no not all. But most of you if your standing. Unless the rain is riding the wind. Still helps. They don't completly seal the back but do a decent job for 20$.
  8. Looking at the local forcast, except for Sat. I'd bring a tree umbrella just in case. Some people might not like to use them, maybe thinking they make noise with the rain. Haven't found that to be the case.
  9. Got a CT/ Tractor Supply near you? They usually have a ton of foam blocks they give away for free. I put a 3x3 set together and just use a tiedown strap to keep them together. They will stop a broadhead.
  10. Not bad. Makes me wonder if you would need to bother moving cams around so much, being worried they get 'camera shy'.
  11. Pierogis stuffed with ground venison, broccoli & ricotta cheese. You want frustration? I think it'll work, but noooooo, none of my fellow bowhunters beleive me. I feel so alone.
  12. Brandon ; Your phone takes better pics then mine! Nice basket on that buck & sharp lookin stock on the machine. Good hunting & welcome to the forum.
  13. Have taken 2 fresh roadkills in the past few years, tried for a third but the guy who hit it decided to keep it for sombody he knew. In each case it was still an accident scene. You wait for the sherrif - police to take care of business then the officer to fill out a possesion tag. I'm at a slight loss understanding why somone would want roadkill antlers or even bother with the trouble if the possesion wasn't fresh. There is no thrill in roadkill recovery. To me it is simply a resource & not letting undestroyed venison go to waist.
  14. Yes baking soda works fine. It's all I've used for years, trick is not to use to much. Bet the guys who need to justify the hundreds they spent on all that carbon jazz won't agree but how full is their freezer. Btw it also works to help kill oders in boots, but again a very light application.
  15. One day I'm still after a lever, 30-30 or 35 makes an excellent woods rifle. Not to mention an excuse to buy another safe .
  16. Last trip up to camp on 81 past Oneida lake & the 104 exit there was at least 4.
  17. arrow nocker; there's a links somewhere to the stateland interactive mapper, from the Volney area maybe check out Happy Vally or there's a bunch a bit north of that. I know some in 7m but that is out of your way I think. Still it's a bummer about loosing any hunting spot. As you can see, lots of guys hit state land and make it happen. I have taken my best buck to date and some 7's, one of those this year off WMA. Not to mention some of my best Birds as well. It can be a challenge scouting the areas but even after getting into a lease I still do what I call 'day-runs' and it can pay off. It also helps to prevent burn out from hitting the same spot. Anyhow onto your request, here's a few pics - btw the my media thing on this forum is driving me nuts so the description - pics might not be in order 11 from 06 - smoothbore 12g 7 from 09 - .243 7 from 11 - Bow Pair of Toms
  18. This reminds me of the time I bought an 8 gun at Gander, and in the parking lot tried to stuff it in an `80 Buick to get it home. Hope nobody got that on video.
  19. What's on my checklist ? Close up camp before Dec. rolls in. Suppose I could fill my last tag ..
