    Two years ago today started off like every other day of hunting with my dad, brother and I. The three of us sitting at mom and dads dining room table for an hour before we had to head to the woods having coffee and breakfast. My dad and I arguing because he made the coffee to weak and where we were going to sit, where to sit my brother and what drive to make first and in what direction. The night before was like so many other nights for our family, my wife at the time, my daughter my brother and sister-in-law and I all had dinner at mom and dads and we spent most of the night picking on each other about something or other and talking about the next days hunt. That morning I sat exactly where I’m sitting right now and was planning on doing the first push to my dad and brother. Little did I know that would be the last drive I would ever do for my dad. Dad killed a doe that morning then as many of you know suffered heart failure and died on top of his last deer just after he finished gutting it. My brother and I were on either side of him when it happened. They say that time heals everything and that’s not true, I miss the old man more today than I did the day he died.     Last week of archery, I have wanted to kill a buck with my dads Xbow and it was a fun hunt still hunting. I like being in the woods and like having a tag in my pocket so for me to shoot a buck early in the season it’s gotta be a giant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    I’ve got 3 muzzleloaders that I use and every one shoots the same load under 1.5” 3 shot group with no cleaning in between. 84grains of blackthorn 209 by weight Barnes TSX 270gn .451 bullet Harvestor sabot .451 sabot I’ve been using this load for about 5 years have yet to have a deer die out of sight. Shoots extremely consistent. “Clean, dirty, cold , warm etc”. I have tried loads that shot better groups but never found anything to be this forgiving and consistent. I have tried a lot of loads powders, bullets and sabots and my conclusion is if wouldn’t shoot pellets if someone gave me a life supply and if someone gave me a lifetime supply of power belts I’d drill holes in them and use them as sinkers. Pellets “777 and shockey’s” are too inconsistent in weight and both create the burn ring making loading more difficult. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hunted all day on a chunk of state land saw a ton of deer and a few small bucks. Tomorrow will probably be the last hunt of the season until Ohio because a few local lakes have froze so it’s time to shift gears. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    I like the idea of single shots for youth. If you’re a handi fan a 30-30 would be perfect, I have 2 a youth for my daughter and a full size for me. The cva hunters are a hell of a gun for the money and available in youth models as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Had a 300wsm rebored to .358. Fire form 300 or 270wsm brass. Pretty popular wildcat custom dies are pretty easy to come by. It was my first ever full wildcat not counting Ackley’s and it’s been pretty fun. My 35AR is a lot of fun as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    My 35-300wsm is about the most perfect magnum cartridge ever designed in my opinion. It’s extremely versatile with bullet weights and performs very well out of an 18” barrel! The deer I shot with it was devastating! It will definitely be what I carry when I go on my moose hunt. I just hope I don’t forget my ammo! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    I have a large industrial “flammable cabinet” that I got from a scrap years that one of the local mills were getting rid of. It’s pretty good and holds most of my loaded ammo except 5.56, 9mm and 12ga that’s just on shelves because there not room. My powder is kept in another heavy duty steel cabinet.     You and me both, I ain’t got room in my pack for all the crap some of these guys carry. Have no idea what a “butt out” is but I’ve gutted a 100 or so deer without it so I guess I don’t need it.     I do the same thing, my girlfriend hates it but to me it’s what Christmas is about. Don’t need no 100$ “perfect” looking tree, just walk out back and cut the best one down, wrap some colored lights around it and hang some ornaments and stack gifts under it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
